At that time of the month and the January drag out! How do I make this last the weekend until Tuesday probably. Got some shopping but kids to occupy?

Is this a joke ?

GaroTheMushroom · 26/01/2024 17:40

Also don’t understand why you have to spend money? I rarely take my kids out on the weekend and if we do go out it’s to the park which is free…..

Rosesanddaisies1 · 26/01/2024 17:41

You don’t need to spend money on your kids entertainment. Weather looks ok this weekend so get outside - whatever you can walk to, or drive if that’s an option. Walk, cycle, go to beach, go to playgrounds.

eurochick · 26/01/2024 17:43

Geocaching is free and basically a treasure hunt.

EmmaEmerald · 26/01/2024 17:45

When I were a lass, it were all fields..

I can't fathom spending £25 as a norm to entertain kids on a weekend, or thinking it's too little.

We went to the park, the library, played with a doll, watched TV...sorted.

SnowsFalling · 26/01/2024 17:51

Why do you need to spend anything?
Wander into town. Go to the library. Choose a new book. Come home via the park.
Lunch - which you've got.
Afternoon, make some cake or biscuits (you might need to buy some ingredients I guess), then sit and eat them infront of a film on TV.
Sunday, all of you clean the house in the morning, then do some junk modelling /craft / play with Christmas presents in the afternoon.

Anjea · 26/01/2024 17:53

We quite often don't spend much at all at weekends

Trulyme · 26/01/2024 17:58

I’m a bit confused on what you need to buy.

Is it food?
How many of you is there and what do you already have in the cupboard?

Thehamsterthatcametotea · 26/01/2024 18:13

Play with them
Make a den
Arts and crafts
Bake
Go for a walk

Use your imagination rather than money

EverleighMay · 26/01/2024 18:15

Stay in, boring but free. Do you have to go shopping or can you use cupboards/freezer stuff?

Meadowfinch · 26/01/2024 18:47

Easy.

Take them to your local library
Or for a long nature walk in the woods
Turn it into a treasure hunt
then home for hot chocolate with marshmallows
Find a film to watch
Supermarket frozen pizzas for tea.

Thanks all!!! We've been run in with various sickness bugs and illnesses so getting out was to cheer us up a bit..

Library has things on and I've a toddler who likes to play. The sorting out things from rooms..?? Defo doing this and it'll be good to have a clear out. Movie and popcorn.. done. And I might even get to keep the cash in the purse

We've been out at woods today too. Starting to feel normal after having cabin fever for past two weeks

Nature scavenger hunt.
Print pictures of bugs, trees, birds- go for a walk and see what they can tick off.

Bake chocolate haystacks

Crafts

DyslexicPoster · 26/01/2024 20:28

I'd take my kids to big park, pack cakes and juice but treat us to a hot drink in the cafe. Feels like a treat but it's just a drink. Mind you we normally get there late after the cafe has shut!

Sell the stuff you clear out on Marketplace and you could end up making a profit this weekend!

IDontHateRainbows · 26/01/2024 21:49

During the pandemic we used to do an 'urban safari' so you get a list of things you may see on a walk eg postbox, cat, buggy etc and make a random list for each participant. The one to complete their list first gets prize etc. We used to end up at the shop so prizes could be sweets.

Did it more because there was nothing else to do back then but it may keep them cheaply entertained for a morning?

Another idea: treasure hunt

Library
Park
swimming
Free/cheap museum
stay and home and do some paint, crafts, playing, cleaning, reading
I would rarely spend more than £25 entertaining my kids at the weekend
carpet picnic and watch a film

I like these ideas.

My dc used to like curating a home museum and gallery. you can paint or cut out pictures from old books, frame them with cardboard strips and hang them up around the room with blutac. Add some interesting objects from the home, such as an old vases that could be a priceless ming dynasty artefact. Then make little cards to describe each object that is propped up next to them. then everyone goes round viewing and discussing the pieces. I do miss those days, as hard as they were in some ways thinking up ways to entertain dc, I hope my dc will have fond memories of growing up.

AdoraBell · 28/01/2024 22:15

Hope you’ve sorted out things and had a good weekend with your DCs OP

Ponderingwindow · 28/01/2024 22:21

If you have groceries, then just hang out at home and if they are young enough go to the park. Watch movies, play board games, etc. just do normal weekend stuff.
