How much is your weekly food shop?

I’ve just done the food shop online (we usually do it in person) in an attempt to get costs down and not just buy things we see but it was still so expensive…

I managed to find a £25 off your first shop voucher so it should have been £116.06 but it went down to £92.56 with the £1.50 delivery fee.

This will do 7 teas (with half of one frozen as leftovers for next week), lunches and breakfasts (there will probably still be breakfast for next week as I ordered a big box of Weetabix and long life milk) for 2 adults and a 2 year old. The only ‘extras’ are orange juice, dilute juice, bananas and yogurts 🤷‍♀️

About £150 a week (4 of us here) but we are being more mindful of our waistlines so are limiting how much we eat out so I expect our grocery bill may increase accordingly (although it’ll certainly be cheaper than eating out that’s for sure!).

I average about £125 pw over the year - one adult, 2 teens, 2 cats who eat like lords.

Includes some booze and special occasions etc.

I WFH so that is all my lunches etc too

Can't believe your cat has booze too! 😝

About £160 for 2 adults and 2 teens who eat larger than adult size portions. Includes a couple of bottles of wine plus about 8 cans of beer a week, and all
meals and snacks. We prefer mainly branded food (crisps, cereals), eat a lot of fresh fruit and veg and snacks.

2 of us (me and 17 year old) and a cat. This weeks shop was £55. It’s usually between £50-£60, dd has lunch boxes for 4 days and one cooked meal at school each week. We have an allotment so most of our veg is home grown (currently frozen veg from the summer).

I get a monthly shopping delivered always around 250-260 and that's for 2 adults 1 teen and 3 toddlers 2 cats and dog and includes all pet foods, nappies, wipes meals, snacks, juices etc. The only extra thing hubby will bring in is milk when we run out

susiedaisy1912 · 07/01/2024 21:36

3 adults and 2 cats. £100-120 a week.

Guibhyl · 07/01/2024 22:12

@Ladyj84 i tried doing monthly shopping but found I was still spending a lot on fruit and veg and fresh shops each week. What do you do about that stuff? Surely apples/bananas etc don’t last a whole month?!

Obviously they dont eat fresh fruit or vegetables they must have frozen I guess and put it in smoothies and use for cooking. 🤷🏻‍♀️

We are quite a fussy family on the whole (stepdaughter is not overly fussy) so usually get very similar foods each week, my SEN toddler still will only eat certain snacks so they are the same every week and is still in nappies, so avergaing it out we spend about £45-60 a week (stepdaughter is only home 4 days a week) and my partner will buy his work meals (breakfasts and lunches) separately from the rest of the food shopping.
Typically I will buy household cleaning products with my own money but I went on a bit of a cleaning obession and now have waaaaaay too many cleaning products so thankfully won't need to buy anymore for the next 3-4 months (oops!)
This also doesn't include any takeaways either, my partner will usually pay for those, but we rarely have takeaways or eat out anyway. We're trying to go until the end of feb with only eating at home!

online shop v going
Online,

  • you buy only what is on your list
  • you can do the shop when it suits you BUT Not everything is online, especially their essential brands Substitutions - you don't always get what you want, but you can send it back Dates - I have had too short dates, especially on bread or items wanted for mid-week meals In shop +I can pick from the short date counter and freeze
  • I can see offers and vary my menu to save money, local shop may have different offers, and I can bulk buy
  • I can shop in different shops
  • I can pick long dates, and things like greener bananas, non-bruised apples, better slices of meats
  • I can sort the shopping so that nothing is squashed BUT the number of personal shoppers in my way is appalling - so rude too I tend to buy on impulse - I cannot NOT go down the biscuit aisle

£200-225 a week.

Me, DH, 2 late teen sons.

Chatonette · 25/03/2024 22:07

We try to stay under £200/week for 2 adults and 2 teens for breakfasts, packed lunches, and dinners (£7.14 each per day for 3 meals). The £200 also includes toiletries, laundry supplies, toilet roll, etc, so I guess our food total isn’t £7.14 each…

43ontherocksporfavor · 26/03/2024 07:39

Aldi- 3 adults and a dog. £100 pw lately. Used to be £80ish. £100 includes all food, dog food, a bottle of wine, some beer and general cleaning and toiletries ( I buy additional for me elsewhere).
We eat loads of veg and fruit. Meat and fish : 1 pack salmon fillets, 1 pack chicken mini fillets( separate into two bags for two meals) 1 pack chicken thighs, 1 pork fillet, 4 tins tuna, pack of smoked mackerel, one bag frozen white fish. .We use lots of beans and lentils too to bulk meals or just vegetarian meals.

I've finished all food shopping for the month and it's come out at just under €180 per week. And that's with a fair bit bought ahead for next month, having bought some treats from"home" to bring back with me from visiting, and having had a few basics that I had still been looking for at the start of the month.

So I am hoping to start cutting it down more next month.
