No spend January?

Psychoticbreak · 27/12/2023 12:16

There used to be no spend threads every month on here although I appreciate Dec is a hard one. For me I am going to try not to overspend this month and clear off the credit card in full again as it was zero balance up till xmas.

Anyone else with me?
Stilly possibly to class Christmas day as a no spend but that was my day one and I spent nothing yesterday either.

Yesterday I spent £15 at the dry cleaners but that will mean I can again wear those items so felt essential.

I might need to pick up a few things from the supermarket on the way home today but will try to be strict and not end up with extra treats.

Rainbow1901 · 12/01/2024 13:26

Well, planned haircut was £29 and then went shopping in Iceland - £45 but paid using Xmas club card so not from the bank account. Annoyingly forgot I had 10% off voucher for Iceland so could have saved myself £4.50!! 😡£15 in Home Bargains for Cat food, Soap Powder and tinned Baked Beans/Spaghetti for GCs and then £12.79 in Lidl but did get 6 tins of peaches for £3 which I thought wasn't bad at 50p per tin.
Hopefully shops will be avoided this weekend so can increase my NSDs for the month so far.

Rainbow1901 · 12/01/2024 13:37

Just checked back though my threads have managed 6/12 NSDs for January so far!

Akire · 12/01/2024 14:06

£12 in Sainsbury’s with cash I had. Then got some gift cards and presents on Amazon for Jan/Feb birthdays. Thought since it was a spending day I might as well go for it! They are budgeted for but getting ahead means they will be ready to post and not spending more last minute. So thinks still counts as being careful.

might do a card factory shop online as our branch closed down. Then get cards for the year. They are very reasonable instead of a supermarket card that’s £4.

itstooearlytobeawake · 12/01/2024 14:26

Spent £13.44 at Sainsbury's after 3 NSD. Needed some bits for work next two days and something for breakfasts

pistachiosanscream · 12/01/2024 15:09

Was hoping for a NSD but the tesco order i thought id postponed to the end of the month arrived unexpectedly. My own fault i hadnt cancelled it properly.

Anyways no more grocery anxiety in this house, it was a small shop but did top up basics like bread, fruit and filled in some missing pantry bits.

Hoping to not do a supermarket shop until the end of the month with just a fruit/veg top up in between. 2 weeks to pay day and i'll need everything in the joint account for bills and petrol

RM2013 · 12/01/2024 15:25

Not a NSD day today but had accounted for it. Met a friend for lunch and spent a total of £30 on flowers, card and a gift as it’s a big birthday for her but I can’t make her birthday party so today was planned a while back. She bought lunch though which I didn’t expect

Akire · 12/01/2024 16:00

Ok so £23 in card factory but should take me through till June and with few small gifts too. I’ve never been this organised in my life!

no need spend over weekend or early next week.

psuedocream3 · 12/01/2024 19:41

I spent £1.40 today on Christmas wrapping paper, unplanned but a very good saving.

This weekend will be no spend hopefully as wewill be avoiding the shops. Monday I need cards, cake and food shopping but hoping to keep spends low.

Well done everyone in your low/no spends.

moimichme · 12/01/2024 19:50

You lot are on fire - well done!🔥

I managed another NSD today. But tomorrow I'm going to a nearby city for a friend's birthday dinner. I'm not quite sure how much it'll cost, but it should be within budget as long as I keep focused. Happy Friday everyone.

Nellieinthebarn · 12/01/2024 20:13

Milk and bread in the co-op yesterday, £2.40, NS today, I even made the pasta for the lasagna tonight as I didnt realise I had run out. I've never made this before and was pleasantly surprised that it was so easy, and tasted fine.

MastieMum · 12/01/2024 21:52

Spent £42 on groceries today, but all necessary stuff. And £7 parking along with £37 for dinner out - a colleague's leaving do, which I'd planned for. Hopefully tomorrow and Sunday will be a bit cheaper! But checked my bank account and it's looking much healthier than at the same time in December, so this is doing some good I think! Great to have a community to share the journey with.

ElizaBalfour · 12/01/2024 23:46

Still spending far too much on groceries here Blush I've had some great stuff via Too Good To Go as well and have cooked plenty of meals for the freezer, just need to meal plan better and stop spending!!

@2024Hackathon we have a food processor and I rarely use it as I find it too fiddly Confused I'd love to get a bread maker as in my head, I would use it constantly and we'd have lovely fresh home made bread every day... in reality I'd probably get confused by that too and it would sit gathering dust! You can often pick them up for £10 or so via Marketplace, I'm tempted to get one next time DP goes on holiday then I can see if I'd actually use it before he moans too much about it...

@moimichme good luck with your theory test next time! Showing my age here, but I did mine when they'd only just started - it was all on paper and you had the results by post - I think it was 1997?

@Caspianberg I hope your toddler is all recovered now? I had to take DTS1(8) to hospital a few months ago, he became very poorly very quickly and of course it was at the weekend and we ended up at A&E (due to a lack of other options!) - that afternoon alone must have cost me around £20 with parking, coffees, a snack for DS etc...

@caramond sometimes decent cleaning is a necessary expense Sad - DP chose a feather duvet much against my advice, I can't tell you the times the DC have thrown up on it and we've had to get it cleaned at the launderette! All the duvets I've bought have been cheapo ones which can just be washed and tumble dried...

SwoopingIsBad · 13/01/2024 08:20

NSD yesterday. Straight to work, ate lunch in the staff room, straight home! Wasn't messing around!

I'm taking youngest DS swimming today. Probably Maccies for lunch. I'm hoping to spend no more than £20 on the whole trip... We'll see how it goes 💸

I hope everyone has an awesome Saturday!

Amdone123 · 13/01/2024 10:19

I spent £15 yesterday. On wine 😩.
But.....it's less than I normally spend and dh had given me £20 , so all good.
I haven't spent much at all since we started this.

I was thinking yesterday how I'm a sucker for face creams and makeup. Yet I have lots of face creams !
I appear to have missed the memo about actually using it.

NS day today as I'm staying in.

Rainbow1901 · 13/01/2024 12:53

Was hoping for a NSD today but DH has come down with a heavy cold so had to pop out for cold remedies, throat sweets and a loaf of bread. £7.56
There's always tomorrow!! 🙄

Akire · 13/01/2024 14:49

After yesterday’s shopping( planned ) card factory ( getting ahead ) . I blasted on Amazon last night argh. Think once I had spent it was hard not to stop ! Few house stuff I did need and few other gifts. So nothing totally outrageous and all stuff I will use. But still it’s so easy to get back into click here and you’re done. It’s far to easy to shop online.

Did feel bad when big pile turned up this morning which is some thing I guess! Also bank balance is looking very worse for wear and to feel mad at myself.

itstooearlytobeawake · 13/01/2024 16:17

Another NSD today. 🥳

SwoopingIsBad · 13/01/2024 18:46

Swimming and McDonald's (and a pie for DH who stayed at home) = £19.50! Stayed under £20

I'm in work tomorrow and Sundays are usually slow. We usually do a bit of shopping and get cake lunch delivered from the local coffee shop. Tomorrow is going to be very challenging.

Amdone123 · 13/01/2024 19:23

I really want an outfit in the Monsoon sale. It would only be £47, but I'm resisting.
I'm trying to lose weight ( and it's coming off), so I've told myself when I hit my target ( April), I'll go shopping then.
Also, I'm a tad hungover / tired. I'd normally order a takeaway but dh just made me cheese on toast, which also hit the spot.

Disneyland2022 · 13/01/2024 22:15

Another 2 no spend days in the bag! so proud!

Lovely day at the park with the kids on the bikes followed by a quick McDonald’s on the Husband. It’s a win for me 👏🏻

HowDidThisHappenDinesh · 14/01/2024 00:36

Bit of a failure here this week after Wednesday’s NSD. Came down with a migraine which kept me out of action, only returning to real life now. DH said he’d sort dinner (read: order a takeaway, he’s not much of a cook!) and took it from the joint account but I won’t even complain because I was so nauseous the broth from this place was the only thing I could stomach.

This weekend we’re at a friends for dinner and then we’ll do a Sunday roast so I spent £26 on snacks, drinks, and meat. Then £15 on a bottle of whiskey.

Back to no spend tomorrow. I don’t think I can put off the big shop much longer so I expect to spend £80 next week but that could should see me through to the end of Jan if I play it right.

Amdone123 · 14/01/2024 08:35

@HowDidThisHappenDinesh I hope you're feeling better today. At least you have a plan for this week and that's a good thing.
Once you get your shop, you'll be going good.
@Disneyland2022 well done ! Keep going. It's helping me to see it as a fun challenge and also reading here.
