I made about £400 but by the time I pay the tax on it that will be £300 but it's still worth doing.

Newgolddream70 · 09/11/2023 16:16

I sell things to buy other things so don't make a huge profit but I love Vinted.

I had a delivery of a brand new Hush blouse today that cost me £12! I also bought my son a brand new in a sealed box table-top air hockey game for a tenner - they're £30 in the shops.

Why are you paying tax? Are they things you've bought to sell?

Doggymummar · 09/11/2023 16:21

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/other-taxable-income-hs325-self-assessment-helpsheet/other-taxable-income-2021-hs325

Once it goes over £1000 a year it's taxable. I run my own business and have a PAYE job so it's taxable same as it it were a carboot sale or eBay for example. No it's just clothes I no longer wear, but it's a form of income, so it's taxable

camberlian · 09/11/2023 16:28

I disagree, if you're making capital gains or trading then yes it's income. Selling sold stuff lying around isn't

Your info is ten years out if date I'm afraid.

wereonthemarket · 09/11/2023 16:32

I'm loving vinted at the mo. Bought lots of brand new/nearly new stuff for a few quid. Amazing to bulk up the Xmas gifts

Doggymummar · 09/11/2023 16:33

I'm talking about income tax, not capital gains TAX. Anyway you think what you like, I put it on my self assessment and I pay what I am told to pay, so I can sleep at night. What others do is up to them.

sleepismyhobby · 09/11/2023 16:35

Yes me I sell and buy all mine and kids clothes of Vinted I'm not sure how much I've made but close to 1k I'd say , helped hugely as my agency work is so sporadic this year

NorthernSpirit · 09/11/2023 16:39

Just started using Vinted after using eBay for 20 years.

Much easier/quicker to upload items than eBay, the postal part is much slicker & is fairer to the seller (eBay over the years sided with the buyer).

So far, so good!

sleepismyhobby · 09/11/2023 16:40

I've just looked and I've made £500 not bad though on unwanted or outgrown clothes

Literally from your own link the paragraph above the one you have highlighted:

"WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I EARN OVER THE £1,000 TRADING ALLOWANCE?If your extra income is over £1,000 - you should contact HMRC to let them know as you may need to fill in a self-assessment tax return.
You may also need to pay tax on the extra income earned."

Which is exactly the same thing @Doggymummar said.

IDK why you're turning it into an argument, you're obviously happy to just carry on avoiding tax, but don't plead ignorance if you get audited by HMRC one day.

Embarrassed for you derailing the thread to tell everyone about your tax avoidance.

OP I've never bought from Vinted, is it easy to use? I used to like a good ebay bargain but it's harder and harder to find proper secondhand sellers on there.

camberlian · 09/11/2023 17:07

Ok go through this link then

www.gov.uk/check-additional-income-tax

I'm not detailing merely interested in why people would pay tax when they don't need to. Ffiw tax avoidance is (legally) fine , tax evasion, not so much.

snatchabook · 09/11/2023 17:07

FGS @SisterMichaelsHabit they haven't remotely turned it into an argument. @camberlian simply disagreed, rightly or wrongly, then backed off. Also said nothing about her own selling/tax habits. Are you just looking for someone to have a go at?!

MinnieL · 09/11/2023 17:11

I love Vinted. I’m forever selling stuff I don’t want anymore on there. I bought brand new UGG gloves that are online for £125 for £45. Bargain!

Decafflatteplease · 09/11/2023 17:13

Love vinted both for buying and selling! I sell something most days. I'm a SAHM so have time to do it. I try and upload a few things a day 🙂

Yep! I wanted some new autumn/winter dresses and a coat. So I sold several items and shoes I no longer wear and then bought six dresses (3 new with tags) and a coat. Only had to pay an extra £3.
Definitely recommend it for buying and selling.
