I don't seem to be able to sell much on Vinted. e.g. I put a nice Phase Eight jumper on for 3 pounds a few weeks ago and 8 people have favourited it but noone actually buys. Similar in the summer for 3 lovely pairs of boys shorts Any tips?

Message the ones who have favourited and drop the price a couple of quid, or if already too cheap, remind them you can post the same day and are happy to answer any questions, always works on me!

I looked into this and I don't think you have to pay tax if you are selling your old stuff. Technically you are selling it for less than you paid for it (in most circumstances anyway) and so you are not making any profit.

I have only bought and love it. The set up is good and fair to both seller and buyer.

Had some amazing bargains. A new pair of Clarks boots for £8 that are £90 in the shop.

Thank you Vinted sellers!!

Is that a normal price you would expect to pay for similar boots ? I've got a few things to sell but was hoping to get a bit more than that.

Selling things that you no longer want is great, however, why are some people so rude asking for extra money off when things are already heavily discounted? They will either ask for one or two pounds off (why?!) or they will offer an amount that is a fraction of the price. It’s irritating! Just pay the amount being asked or look at something else.

Some people don’t have much income to even cover the necessities, so they are forced to bargain and negotiate where they can… be glad you are not in that position yourself, I once was and it was awful, I wouldn’t have even been able to come up with the £8 for the Clarkes shoes. I spent 3 years having to limit the food I ate and bought from the yellow sticker section.

Look on with some compassion if possible, not everyone is a greedy customer.

Sorry that things have been a bit tough for you in the past @WhenIsSpringg. Hopefully things are a bit better for you now 💐

The thing is it works both ways. People sometimes put things up for sale (that they might not necessarily have sold) because money is tight for them too. People might also be selling things to bump up their monthly income to get by, or they might need to sell things to get money to buy for their child’s birthday etc. It can then be quite frustrating when people are trying to get you to sell your things for a fraction of the price or by requesting silly discounts.

@camberlian going through the last link you provided you're right re the tax situation - thanks for the info!

DorisDoesDoncaster · 30/12/2023 16:21

It’s definitely not taxable income when you sell your old used clothes for less than what you paid for them!

If you regularly buy old clothes to sell on at a profit, then that would be classed as trading income and is taxable.

I love Vinted. I have sold up to £300 worth in a month before. September seems to be peak season. Once the kids go back to school, people start shopping.

I have bought a few branded winter coats out of season and then sold them in season and made £20-30 on them.
