Do these direct debits seem too much?

Picture to save time but these are me and my DH direct debits every month. Do these seem reasonable to you? Do you think some of them are too much/or actually ok? Trying to find ways to save money every month (our incomes combined are around 48k) so would be interesting to get outsiders opinion!

Water seems high to me, we pay about £21 per month for 2 adults and a toddler so washing every day.

Do you really pay for 3 phones?

When is your Sky contract up, could you negotiate? Or move to Now TV. We pay £56 per month for internet, TV, sports and cinema with Sky.

Starfish125 · 29/09/2023 18:49

@WombatBombat 2 phones but one is insurance (I think!) Also yeah Sky is ridiculous that's the one I think is bad, seeing as no sky sports, cinema, music, movies etc! Just basic channels! Definitely need to speak to them and I'm supposed to be a 'loyal' customer 🙃in regards to water we have 3 children but rarely have baths, all use the shower!

Why are you paying £75 for sky and another £25 for broadband?

LIZS · 29/09/2023 18:49

Sky, EE and water look high

cherryassam · 29/09/2023 18:50

The Sky seems really high.

What’s the Tesco Bank insurance?

Booksbooksbooksandmorebooks · 29/09/2023 18:50

Our water is very similar for 3 adults

Starfish125 · 29/09/2023 18:50

@SquashPenguin because with broadband was coming at £130! Talk talk broadband was more decent.

cherryassam · 29/09/2023 18:51

What do you actually get with the Sky? Netflix etc. too?

That makes no sense at all. I have sky tv and broadband and pay about £70!

Starfish125 · 29/09/2023 18:51

@cherryassam that's my DH car insurance my car insurance is the £35.62 one

Shocked that people pay £75 a month for sky, how much do you actually watch it? I got rid of it 10 years ago and don’t miss it at all, I pay for Netflix which is £12 a month.

I always pay my car insurance outright, it saves a bit of money, my insurance is £180 for the year.

I switched my mobile over to pay as you go and pay £10 a month, before my bill was around £35 a month. I wouldn’t go back to a contract.

Sarahconnor1 · 29/09/2023 18:51

There is a lot of individual insurance payments, life, car, pet plan and some that are unclear. The sky payment is high given that you have separate broadband.

Lovemusic82 · 29/09/2023 18:53

I currently have sky broadband, I wish I had never switched from talktalk, sky are charging me a fortune for landline calls (I am rural so my mobile isn’t reliable). Sky are one big rip off.

dementedpixie · 29/09/2023 18:53

There're 3 phone payments and 3 life insurance payments. Are there 3 people?

wormshuffled · 29/09/2023 18:55

My sky is £103 per month = 3 boxes, sport package (not bt sports) and hd package. Broadband not included.
I thought the insurances looked steep. If you have death in service on your pension are they all necessary?

Invisimamma · 29/09/2023 18:58

Take a look at all of your insurances, it seems like quite a lot all in.

I'd ditch the sky TV too, that's so expensive. Why do you pay for broadband separately?

Mobile phone bills, do you use the plan allowances or can you bring those down or move to sim only.

TheShellBeach · 29/09/2023 18:59

SquashPenguin · 29/09/2023 18:51

Same, and it also includes my mobile phone contract.

UndercoverCop · 29/09/2023 18:59

We pay £76 a month for virgin full TV package including BT Sport, 2 TiVo boxes, superfast gamer's broadband, landline and inclusive calls. Look to switch, new customers are getting the same deal as us for half the price and for £10 extra you can have an unlimited SIM card too.

Also can you consolidate some things, we pay £17 a month for our Halifax bank account, you get £5 back if you don't go overdrawn and have two direct debits coming out, so £12 really and for that everyone in our house gets travel and mobile insurance cover, we get car breakdown with AA for anyone named on the account (ours is joint) and home emergency appliance cover who were great even our boiler went. That's a lot for £12 and when we switched they gave us £150 not sure if they still do that.

Puddleducks9 · 29/09/2023 19:01

Is there any way you can pay for some of these in annual payments not monthly instalments? The APR on insurances is insane vs paying outright.

Mstxxx · 29/09/2023 19:02

I actually think they are all relatively low (apart from the Sky one) but it's just that there is a lot of them

I think you could have got one of the phones (the £41 one) a bit cheaper, unless its a really new iPhone

Dessertinthedesert · 29/09/2023 19:04

Get rid of Sky and get Netflix instead.

There is a lot of debt payments.

What are the 3 different L and G?

Your gas and electricity seems low.

ReeseWitherfork · 29/09/2023 19:05

Probably comparable to similar to mine. We only have internet, no TV but pay for Netflix and Disney (which is a lot less than £75!). Your utilities are half mine…. Sob.

If you’re looking at budgeting then I’d recommend trying to make an estimate at what you pay for other bits… food and fuel are the easy ones, but I bet you could work out what you spend on dentist, clothes, birthday presents, takeaways, and the like as well. Thats the real challenge!

Issummernearlyover · 29/09/2023 19:08

Your house insurance is very high. I've just got house and contents for just over £100 for the year.

It’ll depend on the house but those things are easy to do a price comparison for online, so OP should hopefully know she’s not paying more than she needs to. I pay £35 a month for house and contents.

Lalanbaba · 29/09/2023 19:13

Phones is high, but I assume you are financing your devices.
When contract is up, keep phone switch to a non contract one. Buy phone outright when needed.
I pay £8 a month and includes roaming worldwide.
Obviously sky, we do Netflix and also disney with tesco vouchers.
Then you have sofa and bathroom? Are those on 0% interest? If not look at consolidation
