How much credit do you have in your energy account after summer?

Just checked my energy suppliers app and currently have about £500 surplus in there. We pay about £350 a month so I feel it should be more but maybe we are using more than I thought. I need to go back and look through the numbers but the energy company haven't said anything about being too low. Got me wondering how much are other people in credit at the end of the summer?

@Westfacing
Same thought process as you and it's worked well for me for over a year now

I pay my bill showing in smart meter every month for electricity and gas.

There's no reason to have so much sat in the account of a large energy company.

So many people lost out for months when some went bust as they'd built up a big reserve with them.

I trust none of them with my hard earned cash. I budget for and pay the extra in winter months and then less in the summer.

Octopus keep reducing my monthly DD without obvious warning.

As a result I was in debit last month - it's really irritating.

Cookerhood · 22/09/2023 09:20

Octopus have just put mine up by something weird like 9p a month (after giving me a £1000 refund the day before).

Sewfrickinamazeballs · 23/09/2023 07:28

£1150 in credit and dd of £227 a month with EDF

Usage was hitting around £440 a month in winter so not sure if we should get some back or just leave it and see where we end up over winter

Dontcallmescarface · 23/09/2023 08:04

I'm on pre-pay for both gas and electric and as of now I'm £195 in credit for Electric and £391 for gas. I pay £45pm on both during the summer and £65pm in winter.

forgotmyusername1 · 24/09/2023 10:44

Currently 800 in credit. Direct debit is 100 but we have solar and batteries so our bill has been negative over the summer. Going to start eating into it again from Nov

Only £23, but my review is in the September so it means I've been paying about the right amount the whole year, I must go into debit over winter and make up for it over the summer months rather than the other way around.

We’re in debit, by about £100. Already paying £275/month and only in an end of terrace three bed house. Seems the electricity is the problem so trying to reduce usage but running out of areas to cut.

Zero I don’t overpay bills, I have a savings account.

This. I reduce my DD whenever I can. Why on earth people leave money for their energy company to make more money, is beyond me.

Decafflatteplease · 29/09/2023 19:56

We just had £1000 back to us a few months ago so it was zero and we are currently £600 in credit. I think we are massively overpaying our direct debit but they won't let us put it down anymore. We will just try to not use the credit over winter and get it back in the spring

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 29/09/2023 20:01

500 at the current moment. I was hoping for a bit more. Fingers crossed its enough.

CassieRole · 29/09/2023 20:07

None as we use more electric in summer, winter we use more oil as the Aga is on for cooking and drying clothes, we buy that as needed.

mondaytosunday · 29/09/2023 20:17

I pay £100 for electricity and £150 for gas. I'm £100 debit for electricity and £100 credit on gas. Three/four bed mid terrace.

Dontcallmescarface · 30/09/2023 08:41

Fucking none now EON-Next have fitted a smart meter. My £409 credit on my gas has disappeared. 6 days with it and still no sign of the "credit transfer" I was promised.
