How much credit do you have in your energy account after summer?

Just checked my energy suppliers app and currently have about £500 surplus in there. We pay about £350 a month so I feel it should be more but maybe we are using more than I thought. I need to go back and look through the numbers but the energy company haven't said anything about being too low. Got me wondering how much are other people in credit at the end of the summer?

About £350 but that’s accumulated over around 4 months as we took over £1k out around Easter time.

The energy company have just said they want us to put our dd up by over £90 as they don’t think our current payment (£160) will cover the winter.

Ohthatsabitshit · 12/09/2023 21:57

Zero I don’t overpay bills, I have a savings account.

Ohmylovejune · 12/09/2023 21:58

We have £669 and my Dad has £162. Dad's might be a bit low, thanks for flagging. He probably should put his DD up a bit

Auntieobem · 12/09/2023 21:58

About £250, comfy enough with that

Cookerhood · 12/09/2023 21:59

£1300 and that's after reducing the amount we pay & getting some paid back! We are currently paying £300/month but the bills are about £150 at the most. I need to sort it out.

Sanch1 · 12/09/2023 21:59

We had £900, they gave us £600 back and reduced our payments from £350 to £225/month.

AuntieMarys · 12/09/2023 22:01

£700. We pay £175 a month.

Precipice · 12/09/2023 22:01

If you run a credit/debit balance on your energy bills, surely it'll depend on when you set up the account? If you start it in winter, it'll start off in debit and then work its way to zero as it gets warmer, perhaps never going into credit. You'd only have a credit if you start in warmer months.

At least that's my understanding of it; I don't have any experience with this because I pay by variable direct debit. I don't see any reason to overpay some months and underpay other months.

I hate being in credit and prefer to have the money in my bank earning interest and to pay what is owed throughout winter. However my bank gives me 2% cashback upto £5pm so I max the monthly DD payment to £250, its an easy £60 per year and can refund any credit or pay any shortfall with a cashback credit card. I basically hate to make any payment with making a gain first. These little cashback/ rewards do add up.

Currently I'm in credit by too much £465 but the haven't billed me for a few months as I switched my tariff, I think I'm in credit by around £250 that I hope to get back once the bill comes through.

Chickpea17 · 12/09/2023 22:06

£1281 we pay £250 month but are tariff runs out on the 27th of this month. We only have electric.

AuntieSoap · 12/09/2023 22:10

I had £800 but I asked for £330 back and took a payment holiday next month

dementedpixie · 12/09/2023 22:14

£442 in credit. Used £185 worth last month and pay £250 each month. Was paying £280 but reduced it

modgepodge · 12/09/2023 22:15

Currently about £450 in debt still…down from over £1k in debt by the end of last winter, after a hike in bills and using an electric car and octopus never suggesting we put out DD up 🤷‍♀️ they also aren’t chasing us for the debt so….

no longer have the electric car so hoping if I continue to pay the same we won’t add to the debt this winter…

greylad · 12/09/2023 22:16

Zero. My account runs Sept-August so I build up a 'debt' over the winter and then it gradually goes back up to £0 over spring/summer.

Yes - you are spot on!

megletthesecond · 12/09/2023 22:17

Almost 1k. Combination of coming off a 2yr fix and trying to reduce consumption.
At least this winter won't be too hard. Next year is going to be grim.

mycatsanutter · 12/09/2023 22:37

I gave a reading to SP yesterday and we are £288 in credit , they said I could reduce by dd to £120 , seems quite low.

Webmeister999 · 12/09/2023 22:39

I have £650 in credit. Last year I got over £1000 into credit and made them refund me £600. I am leacing the £600 in place for winter but reading the meters every month to keep an eye on bills.

Privatelyliving · 12/09/2023 22:42

I have over £1000 and I don't really know why. There was a balance before the prices shot up, so I didn't increase my DD, but the balance is still accumulating.

I'm with OVO and they pay me 5% interest so I'm leaving it there.

Same here. Eon wanted to charge us a fixed monthly amount that was more than double the highest bill we had ever had so I told them where to go and we pay monthly based on actual readings.

pompomdaisy · 12/09/2023 22:44

£430 but have reduced payments to £154 a month now.

Dancesaideveryone · 12/09/2023 22:46

£700 credit and I pay £150 a month, which is what I expect to use at least over winter so should be fine.

PrimrosesandPears · 12/09/2023 22:49

£1300 with a D/D of £150/m.

HoggyDunlop · 12/09/2023 22:50

God this is depressing
We're £1k in debit - still 'paying off' the energy price rises from winter as Octopus didn't put our DD up (and we can't really afford to). Will be putting off using the central heating as long as possible this winter.

HomeSeck · 12/09/2023 22:57

£490 with a DD of £133 on a 3 bed semi.

May end up having to up the DD slightly but might be ok.
