Anyone else getting very fed up of rising costs?

I thought we were doing ok until recently. Our food bill has increased dramatically but we’re getting less and less for the money. I was paid last week and I’m already wondering where I’m going to find the money for next week’s food shopping.

We are fortunately not in food bank territory and I know the summer break is always expensive with new uniforms, outings and such like, so I’m hoping we can sort ourselves out this month.

We are certainly starting to feel the pinch and it’s frightening. Does anybody else feel this way?

This isn't really a hot take, is it?

Bills are going up left, right and centre. We've had over a year of the highest inflation in nearly half a century. Of course the money isn't going as far as it used to. There are already hundreds of threads like this, what's to be gained by you starting another one if you're not going to offer anything new?

InNeedOfAMoneyTree · 03/09/2023 13:26

@julia09 Did you mean to be so rude or are you just having a bad day?

OP is allowed a moan.

Shadycurtain · 03/09/2023 13:29

Lots of people have been struggling for many months already. You’re not wrong, costs are continuing to rise so now more families are impacted that were ok before

BumbleNova · 03/09/2023 13:29

I hear you! We are on really good money but we are definitely watching every pound ATM. It's so depressing! I work so hard but our mortgage has just exploded and I have two boys who are everything. There is nothing left at the end of the month now.

RoseBucket · 03/09/2023 13:29

I’ve just cancelled my Tesco saver, off peak delivery plan, it’s about to go up to £4.99 a month, plus the rise of their min basket and not being competitive with their pricing I’m going elsewhere for shopping.

Do you need some chocolate? Grin

WorseDecision · 03/09/2023 14:11

Yes, very fed up.

I've gone from doing a weeks food shop for 4 people & 3 cats for £90 a week to nearly £250 a week as ds7 is diabetic and his food (that doesn't spike him as bad) is more expensive. Angry
My rent went up by 19 percent, I've cut down on other bills but I'm still worse off.
I know elec/gas is slowly coming down but it's getting to the point where I'm skipping meals now.

NoSquirrels · 03/09/2023 14:11

You know you’re in the ‘Cost of Living’ bit of the chat forums, right? There’s hundreds of other boards to get ‘interesting discourse’ on loads of topics. If you don’t want to read about or discuss the rising cost of living, hide this particular board.

Bad day Julia ?

julia09 · 03/09/2023 14:18

I'm obviously in the minority here, and I'll accept that, but I still stand behind my original point. Just because we have a cost of living sub-board, it doesn't mean that every third post needs to be the exact same thing. It gets very boring.

But yes, perhaps I do need some chocolate.

InNeedOfAMoneyTree · 03/09/2023 14:34

@julia09 Then why bother responding if my post is so offensive to you? Your thoughts can still stand without posting comments clearly designed to put others down for posting something that does not interest you.

My lack of response to your question was not because you’ve proven your point, it was because I don’t see the point in engaging with you when your first response was condescending and rude. Your second post is just more of the same.

You have every right to post what you like , as does everyone else, but really, there was no need to attempt to make me feel stupid for such an innocuous thread which was a vent at a situation we find ourselves in. It’s a discussion board.

You say yourself we are supposed to be intelligent women, so use your common sense , get off your high horse and scroll on if you are so easily offended.

Yep, we're the same. Dc off to uni in a few weeks and we have to find an extra couple of hundred pounds a month just for her accommodation, let alone send her money for food (she will find a job to pay for her clothes and social life). Plus child benefit for her has now stopped, we've had a few cheaper months with gas and electricity (this has helped pay for dcs bits for uni) but as soon as the heating is back on we'll go back up to £400 a month bills.

I tell you what does get boring on this site is people jumping down other peoples throats every second of the day . Its tedious and annoying and i can pretty much guarantee that they would not be so bloody rude face to face.

If you're fed up of cost of living posts, stop coming on the dedicated topic posts for it.

Going on about intelligent women but you're sounding like a troll.

SecretShambles · 03/09/2023 14:45

Yes. Also I'm working on a contract looking for my next role and salaries are going DOWN. In my field anyway which just says there are not as many vacancies and tonnes of people looking.

What was paying 45 -50k last year is now paying 40-45k

Shame as there are some good jobs I would have liked to apply for but no way am I dropping 20% pay when food prices have doubled

We got the midweek delivery pass with sainsbury only £40 a month.

InNeedOfAMoneyTree · 03/09/2023 14:46

@julia09 I am genuinely confused by your approach. You’re now accusing me of picking a fight?! I despair. Yes, let’s leave it there. Very bizarre.

A year sorry!!!!

MidnightOnceMore · 03/09/2023 14:50

I hear you OP, it's depressing. It feels relentless because prices just keep rising. Sunak can get excited about 'halving' inflation but that's just slowing down the price rises, no one has more spare cash.

InNeedOfAMoneyTree · 03/09/2023 14:53

Partly the issue is that there is no end in sight. Salaries are not increasing in line with the price rises and it is disheartening when you’re on track one minute and the next you’re back to feeling broke and fed up.

I know there are lots of us in the same situation.

OP posts:
D20 · 03/09/2023 14:56

It was always going to hit people at different times. OP sounds like it’s been a slog so far but keeping your head above water and now just feels a bit relentless. I think this time of year the summer holidays have made a bit of a dent in budgets and we’re looking towards winter and Christmas with a bit of trepidation.

BananaSun1989 · 03/09/2023 14:59

I'm glad summer is over as the six weeks have almost killed me. But DD had a birthday before next payday...I'm so stressed about it all.
