Anyone else's Energy DD gone down significantly?

Had my DD review.

I paid £67 a month until end of contract, went to £240 in Sept 23, £301 in March 23 and now just had an email to say dropping to £137!

We are £600 in credit which doesn't seem that much in July if its dropped to £137. Any thoughts?

Me. My electric DD was £90 per month. I've had solar panels installed and in 6 months, I'm £60 in credit and my DD has gone down to £50 a month

Lippylumpy · 02/08/2023 07:12

Yes we've gone from £232 to £142 per month. Still a long way off the £80 we used to pay but it's a start.

Trickofthetrade · 02/08/2023 07:14

It's the summer?

User265438765 · 02/08/2023 07:16

Yes, ours was £307 and is now £135, British Gas, I am in credit so I expect it to go up in the winter again

andweallsingalong · 02/08/2023 07:16

Yes, recommended DD reduced by £30, but I'm suspicious as British gas always do this in the summer, then wacky it back up in the winter 🙄 so I've stopped reducing it

Thegrumpycup · 02/08/2023 07:18

As soon as I went into credit they reduced mine by £50pm. I'm electricity only so do pay a bit more TBH. I'd sooner get into credit though for the winter. I'm paying £110 in July so it's gonna be at least £250 in December. So I'm putting my DD back up.

Starlightstarbright2 · 02/08/2023 07:19

Mine hasn’t reduced at all but I’m not in credit either I think I am about £15 in debit

Gabby10 · 02/08/2023 07:24

I pay my gas and electric as one but they work out what each costs. Currently pay £305 for both and they want to put it down to £230 due to electric but I've said no- I'm finally slightly in front and want to keep it that way so I'm not scared to put the heating on in winter!

megletthesecond · 02/08/2023 07:28

EDF used to have form for this. Then I'd end up creeping into energy debt very quickly and have to put it back up. I soon learnt to change it back the moment they wanted to reduce it.

Trickofthetrade · 02/08/2023 07:14

It's the summer?

EDF in the past have set DD for the whole year, only due to the rises have I had such an increase.

Has anyone fixed?

That's depressing, I've not found that but then thinking about it I've always been fixed. I'm going to WA them and see what they say.

My DD has dropped from £160 to £126, so 21%.

My bill for July was £70.

whirlyhead · 02/08/2023 07:32

Mine is currently zero as I was £800 in credit paying £232 a month with a £120 monthly bill. Plus I’ve sold my house so I’m working off my credit.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 02/08/2023 07:33

Our dad late last year was £200, it’s now reduced to £100 and we are £500 in credit.

We are coming to the end of a fix though and will see a significant increase. I shall just enjoy the summer and up the dd in September. I’m

YourCrackersMiLord · 02/08/2023 07:40

I moved to Octopus earlier in the year and their balance forecast thing is much better for this - it gives me a visual of what my balance will do over the coming year so I can see what will happen if I drop the DD. It allows you to hypothetically change it and see what the prediction is, if you see what I mean? Plus, you can get it to show you what energy prices are predicted to do in the future and how that will affect your balance.

I hate feeling like my DD is not enough for the winter and last winter I was so cold because the prices went up so much.

If anyone fancies a free £50 for swapping to Octopus, here's my link: ttps://share.octopus.energy/glad-seal-912

I get £50 too, but obviously only swap if it makles sense for you to Smile

thatsn0tmyname · 02/08/2023 07:49

We had a lot of credit in the summer months with octopus so we lowered our monthly payments to £65, online. It had been £195 per month at its peak.

ohtowinthelottery · 02/08/2023 08:09

I'm expecting that mine will when EDF bill me in the next few weeks. Currently paying £94 but we've had solar panels installed so only used between £30-£40pm since. We are massively in credit.

Marmite27 · 02/08/2023 08:13

We were paying £220 per month and managed to rack up £1k in credit, they dropped out DD to £80 for 3 months.

Then this month they’ve put it back up to £95 - we still have £800 credit! I phoned up and put it back down. I’m not going to let all that credit disappear, but I’ll put it up when I’m ready, not them.

AvengedQuince · 02/08/2023 08:28

No, only a tenner from £80 to £70. I never had an inflated direct debit though as I set my own based on what the octopus prediction tool said.

LoopyGremlin · 02/08/2023 08:34

Mine has reduced from £320 to £250. Going to use the £70 to overpay my mortgage each month. Already overpaying by £100 so that'll make it £170.

JaZminTea · 02/08/2023 08:39

Don’t keep your account in credit. Reduce your DD and put the difference in a savings account or on your credit card if you are paying for debt. There’s absolutely no need for them to hold 4 months worth of your money.

Cupcakequeen75 · 02/08/2023 08:41

Yes, with Eon.
Was already in credit before last winter so their suggested DD increase wasn't as hideous as some on here. Came out of the winter still with a healthy credit balance and they wanted to drop my DD down to £30. We decided to lower it to £100 to ensure the credit balance kept increasing and with any luck we will be going into this winter with about £1200+ which will allow us to maintain the DD at £100.

DreamItDoIt · 02/08/2023 08:42

You do know that you can set your DD don't you? These energy companies are rubbing their hands with glee having all this 'up front money sitting earning interest. Take control of your DD, if you want to cover the winter start a savings account yourself and get interest on the money.

You are also entitled to ask for any money they are holding back btw.

CornishGem1975 · 02/08/2023 08:54

Mine never went up to be fair. I was on fixed rate until June 2023 at £160 per month for both gas and electric and at that point was £400 in credit. OVO offered me another 12 months fixed rate and said our useage would be about £180 but they wouldn't change my direct debit, however I could if I wanted to.
