Yes fear Grin

Happierwithouthim · 12/08/2023 10:26

MerryHen I'm currently looking out at the sea through the pouring rain.
Lots of beaches around but bf's house is surrounded Smile I do appreciate where I live because I didn't grow up near the sea.

Yesterdays spends
€50 school jumper
€50 easons including €12 on book for ds.
60c parking
€10 Tesco
€30 on monkfish & prawn Thai curry x 2

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 12/08/2023 11:57

Well done to your ds curls, exciting for him!

It's been a bit of spendy week as have needed to use the dog walker a few times as my mum is away and dd and I have been working a lot £30.

Paid for dd and I to go to Pilates £16.

Boss has offered me an extra 5 hours a week at work which will take me to 35 hours a week, happy with that and it will really help my bank balance (hopefully!)

Going to pop to Morrisons in a bit, hoping not to spend too much...

Thestartofsomethinggood · 12/08/2023 18:25

Had a speedy week. Refurbished bathroom and kitchen. Need to get back to it

HalfWomanHalfChocolate · 12/08/2023 19:51

And good for your pension too Girlie!

I seem to be doing a top-up shop every day at the moment - tiny fridge problem again (and with a missing shelf to boot). £30 today, but that was with a newspaper (£3.50 - what?!), a chicken to roast, some treats, a chopping board (none to be found in this cottage!) and pizza for kids tomorrow.

DD is having a massive meltdown. I’ve palmed her off to DH for a bath while I try to reduce my blood pressure. She has definite demand avoidance and control problems - the last hour of meltdown came about because I refused to get up from the sofa (having just sat down after cooking dinner, hanging up washing etc!) in order to sit next to her at the dining table while she listened to music. She’s been trying to micro-control my every move all day and I’m just exhausted by it.

Sorry, just venting… I so need a holiday and this has somehow been a really stressful week!

Happierwithouthim · 12/08/2023 22:18

Half that sounds like tough going
BigSkies i also found dogshit in my garden today when I was rolling up my tent. Didn't stand on it but was very close to my nose Envynot envy Grin
Girlie that's great news about the hours, hopefully it won't tire you out too much

€1 parking
€22.87 butchers
€4 biscoff rocky road from place I got TGTG bag a few weeks ago

marthasmum · 12/08/2023 23:03

Just catching up after my second and last holiday! With my sister and her family and DParents. We were near Ross on Wye so not far from you mrs I think. We’ve been doing these family holidays for years and with 10 people they always have their eye roll moments, though we usually have a great time overall. DDad who has dementia was quite rude and difficult and I’m not sure whether we’ll be able to do it again. Gave me further insight into the tough situation DMum has in dealing with him. We are 2 hours from her so difficult to do much with my FT plus hours, but have resolved to do more.

DD took her car and on the drive back accidentally put a small scratch on another car when backing out of a car park. She left a note bless her and her number and the car’s owner has texted to say they’ll try to get the scratch out themselves, and thanks for being so honest. But that they’ll get back to us if they can’t 😳So I’m really hoping it may end there…not really sure whether we can sort it out between us or is that illegal??

anyhoo need to get tighten our belts now like so many on this thread. DD’s results next week and then the best possible outcome is that I am spending £500 per month on uni for her from sept.

Sorry I can’t manage to catch up on everyone’s news, but just to say sorry that you haven’t had a restful break half. You so deserve it and it sounds like you have a lot on your plate.

northender · 13/08/2023 08:59

Oh Marthasmum hope the scratch gets sorted without insurance and fingers crossed for Thursday. We are in same position with DD. We've got a loan which is £380 a month but have enough saved to pay it off now so that will give us some of her uni rent money.
Half so sorry your holiday isn't feeling like one. Hope this week is better.
The ripping up of carpet sounds cathartic big

Impromptu London day out with DD was fab. Borough market was heaving as you warned me but was good. Then miles of walking including South bank (thanks for the tip half), a couple of drink stops and a meal at the end of the day with ds & dh too finished it off perfectly. It's coming to a year since my op & the initial cancer diagnosis so seemed like a positive way to mark it. Thankful to have been so fortunate.
2 medical textbooks I've listed on eBay will sell today, partly funding yesterday's trip. Also closure on the training I gave up (no regrets though).
Will make that loan payment today and have an emergency planning session with myself and my fabric stash for a quilt for dd to take to uni with her! I did one for ds so really should try to get one made for her too. I have a month...eek!
More decluttering on the agenda too

northender · 13/08/2023 09:00

Great news on your increase in hours girlie that will make a big difference to your takf home pay & pension as Martha said

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/08/2023 09:08

Great news on the extra hours girlie
And sound alike a lovely day in London. Might take dd to borough Market.

Half have a hug and I would totally have done the same re meltdown.

Nsd yesterday and other planned today

RumBananaSundae · 13/08/2023 13:36

Bathroom and kitchen Start? You’ve been very busy. What’s next on your todo list?

Sorry your holiday isn’t relaxing Half. I hope your blood pressure is down and fingers crossed for a less stressful and exhausting week.

Good luck for your daughter this week Martha.

Sounds like you had a lovely day on London North. A quilt in a month? That would be amazing. I tried quilting and lasted about an hour. The sewing machine’s never been used again.

Today’s spending has been £11.16 on odds and ends in a combination of Sainsbury, Marks and Spencer and Waitrose. I have a friend coming on Tuesday so have bought a few things I know she likes. Was pleased to see Sainsbury have price matched their chocolate milk to Aldi.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 13/08/2023 16:28

£95 in Morrisons Ystd which was a reminder for why I don't shop in Morrisons 🙈😂

Nsd today, have been busy gardening and done two dump trips!

Met my new neighbours, they moved in last week, seem very sweet but so young. I feel ancient 🫣😂

Thestartofsomethinggood · 13/08/2023 19:24

@Girliefriendlikespuppies did you feel like you got much. I come back, put it away and think where is it all?

Thestartofsomethinggood · 13/08/2023 19:24

@Girliefriendlikespuppies did you feel like you got much. I come back, put it away and think where is it all?

Yep I looked in the fridge this morning and thought where's all the food?! 😭

I seem to have got to the point where it's nearly £100 a week on food for dd and I which is insane.

Happierwithouthim · 14/08/2023 09:16

That sounds like a lot girlie are ye eating specialised food, I remember your dd had some issues around food a few years ago.

I went to butchers on Sat, he was obviously upselling, I asked for chicken stirfry for one, it has fed me and dd for lunch yesterday and I've leftovers for lunch today and I asked for 1lb of mince, weighed it this morn and it was 750g! I was the only one in the butchers, must have been a slow day for him. It didn't go to waste though.

Yesterdays spends
Returns €21.75 Tesco, would have been more but ds's pack of school tshirts would have netted me €2.85 after disc and they'll fit him next year. His current size ones cost me €8.40 for comparison after f&f discount.

Tesco €56.24 on school stationary, uniform, couple of jars of pasta sauce
Dunnes €32.50 school trousers dd & socks for both.

€13.49 Book for ds & a scoop of Rum&Raisin for me!

Just runners to get for both and jacket for ds now.

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/08/2023 16:40

Sigh this could be a very expensive day. Dog vaccine have run out and waiting for vet to confirm extension. Or one of us misses holiday

Happierwithouthim · 14/08/2023 17:13

Oh no life

RumBananaSundae · 14/08/2023 18:15

Girlie I always think that.

Life I’ve got my fingers crossed for the extension.

Yesterday’s spending was supplemented by about £40 on Amazon on some supplements and another travel book. The supplements should last for about three months and the guidebook was the only one I don’t have so hopefully no Amazoning for a while.

Spent £5 in Asda on some lunch/dinner today.

Made it to the bank earlier so am feeling less discombobulated now I have cash again. I’m putting my crazy spending last week to using plastic.

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/08/2023 18:48

We got the extension. Phew

BigSkies2022 · 14/08/2023 21:37

Sweaty moment there, life! like taking another child on holiday, innit?

BigSkies2022 · 14/08/2023 21:43

had a little exploratory wander around B&Q today, in pursuit of the floor renovation project. Didn't spend anything in the end, (sourced what I wanted on ebay, £42) but there was a stunning outburst from a very angry customer against a member of staff. Swearing, yelling, threatening, right up in her face - and the security staff were pretty slow to intervene. Lots of people seem to live on a hair trigger.

lifelongfrugaleer · 15/08/2023 05:35

We were having the who stays behind conversation when we then got the go ahead.

Local airport is fab but breakfast was££££ and forgotten headphones, and water for the plane. Sigh

See ya Friday.

Happierwithouthim · 15/08/2023 07:38

Have a fantastic time life
€8 spend on a chicken kebab yesterday evening

Neverinamonthofsundays · 15/08/2023 07:44

I have spent a bit on eating out in the last week or so but we are in holiday mode and soon to go on an all inclusive holiday which by the amount of times i nip to the local shop and spent 30euro a time on things i do not need will actually save me money while away!

Todays expenses amount to about 200euro but I am getting something done in the house and that is the last of the holiday essentials. The rest of the week I just have a nail app but that is a standard every 3 week thing so thats 30euro and that should really be it to be honest. Then we head away and eat and drink to out hearts content, kids can eat what they want from the buffet as we are not planning on arguing over food this holiday. If they want to drown themselves in chicken nuggets for 10 solid days then let them cos school and healthy eating will be back as soon as we are so this is one particular battle we are not dealing with.

Happierwithouthim · 15/08/2023 07:52

Sounds good never
