Just that really! Help me find reasonable prices, reliable delivery and minimal product substitutions.

Waitrose I find really good.

I hardly get any substitutions, but if you do they give you a higher priced item for the same cost.

Friendly delivery drivers and one hour slots.

I also use Iceland to fill up the chest freezer in the garage, very rarely get substitutions.

Tesco I only visit in person.

Sainsburys I find expensive so only use as last resort.

Asda have not used for a while as so many substitutions.

Meant to add

I like ocado but don't use often

Morrisons - too many short dates and substitutions so will only use if desperate as they do same day

mondaytosunday · 28/04/2023 09:52

Tesco is best for minimal substitutions snd keeping you updated on time if your delivery. Worth getting saver plan if getting more than two deliveries a month. Ocado is best for getting to my house at the start (occasionally before) the slot, but worse for having things out of stock when ordering (they do it from a warehouse not an actual shop). Sainsbury's has most substitutions. Waitrose is somewhere in the middle.

Growlybear83 · 28/04/2023 09:53

Refunds are very easy with Ocado and I don't think I've ever had anything queried. I've always found it easy to get a delivery slot and have had a weekly reserved slot for several years now which really was a godsend during the pandemic when people were finding it so difficult to get deliveries from other supermarkets.

SOMumm · 28/04/2023 10:06

Totally depends on where you are.
We had Morrisons delivery which comes from their distribution centre
in the Vale, but £6! delivery even over 100£ and the prices have increased
considerably.
We have Waitrose for fresh food, meat, frozen, Tesco for more mundane goods, Asda are hopeless, no Sainsbury, Iceland, M&S.
Our daughter 80 miles away has no difficulty with any supermarket and minimal
substitutions.

Substitutions can be hilarious, although vexing when you want something specific which is invariable unavailable, special offers ending day before delivery etc etc
You could try them all ?
We are going to attempt an order with Ocado as heard only good reports and
the choice is excellent.
Good luck OP whichever you have.

Lemondrizzlerain · 28/04/2023 10:06

Just had my Sainsburys delivery and the driver issued a refund there and then for a damaged item. 😊

Roundandnour · 28/04/2023 10:28

Have Sainsbury’s started delivering to blocks of flats without a lift? I keep wanting to go back to them, but if they still aren’t carrying stuff up the stairs for me it’s pointless. Have asked them but say they never stopped delivering upstairs.

SOMumm · 28/04/2023 10:38

Just remembered - an Asda delivery this week of ironically, cleaning stuff mostly, three plastic crates, absolutely, unbelievably filthy.
When the driver retrieved the crates and tipped them, grit and dirt fell onto the carpet.
They are always grubby but these were disgusting.
What if this had been uncovered food, salad or vegetables?
I probably would have refused them.

Over a number of years I have complained to Asda about 3! different drivers,
in fact I complained about one driver twice! Now its a different driver every time.

Tesco blue crates could do with a jet wash too, drivers are often older and pleasant.
Waitrose way ahead, lovely calm drivers, clean crates, generous substitutions and
immediate refunds from their handset in the unlikely event of an unwanted item.

It isn’t the driver’s fault, they just pick up the stacked, labelled crates, but
clearly describes the attitudes of management, supervisors and staff toward hapless customers receiving shopping in uncleaned crates.

The mystery of why pickers would select shot, yellowed, bendy fruit veg and salad which the reliant customer would not choose themselves will never be solved whilst indifferent managers allow this to continue.

Happy shopping everyone !

I Like Tesco, dont Like sainsburys they only issue online refunds in voucher off your next shop rather than back to your card. Don’t like Iceland it’s bad round here and always half the shop missing.

sashh · 28/04/2023 10:47

I don't know if it is the same with the other passes but with Sainsbury's the pass belongs to the person so when I visit my dad, 200 miles away, I book a delivery for after I have arrived (I do most of the cooking when I visit).

tiredhadenough · 28/04/2023 11:24

I bought a Tesco delivery pass with my Clubcard vouchers when they were doing 3 x the price.

It's like for like now unfortunately!!

This is why I don't like Sainsbury's. I want the money back!

TheDogsMother · 28/04/2023 11:47

Sainsburys has been pretty good for me. Minimal substitutions and refunds are same day. Always arrive in allocated timeslot. I was using Waitrose but half way through lockdown I just couldn't get any slots so switched to Sainsburys since then.

Talia99 · 28/04/2023 13:29

In my area, Amazon Prime is delivered by a man in a car with a cold pack in the brown paper bag rather than in a van with freezer / fridge sections like normal supermarket deliveries. I’ve always been a bit dubious whether that keeps things cold properly.

I generally use Tesco (delivery saver and at least in the past they give you coupons for the difference if it doesn’t save you money) with very occasional Waitrose for things Tesco don’t sell. Both are pretty good around my area.

danceyourselfdizzy1 · 28/04/2023 13:34

Another vote for Tesco. Delivery Pass is good value if you do a weekly shop, they always arrive within the time slot (and have a good amount of slots available). And they are getting much better with substitutions, although I've found recently that they don't need to substitute as much as they used to anyway.

Savvyshopper81 · 28/04/2023 17:14

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I'll have a read through and get ordering. Happy long weekend everyone.

Ocado are ok, but be warned you pay for the more expensive subs when they occur and they have quite a limited essentials range, for things like cereal and packed lunch stuff it can really add up compared to Tesco etc.

Yes I agree.

I love Ocado for their service - the app is a dream to use, they're always on time, everything I order is always delivered without substitutions.

However they are more expensive as they don't have many budget or value items.

Asda I like but always get substitutes and they charge the day before (not good if you want a payday delivery)

Tesco also good but I think they've changed their app recently? Don't know. I find it hard to navigate.

BarelyLiterate · 29/04/2023 13:42

In my experience Ocado are the best but, as with many other things in life, best ≠ cheapest.

I hate the Tesco app - I always use the website. I just find it easier.
