Just that really! Help me find reasonable prices, reliable delivery and minimal product substitutions.

Sign up for Amazon Prime (you’d then get the free normal delivery, plus the telly too) and you can get the free Morrisons delivery - same day or next day. Very few problems ime but if something isn’t available etc the shopper messages you at hbd time suggesting a substitution which you can accept or reject.

Oh I did not know this! Thanks so much.

@PuppyMonkey
Sadly not true for all areas , I've had Amazon Prime for years but they don't offer that service in my ( rural ) area of the uk.

sashh · 28/04/2023 08:39

I find Iceland the best.

Free delivery if you order over £40. They were a lifeline in the lockdown as they don't let you put multiple orders on.

They do same day delivery for £3.

I have a mid week pass for Sainsbury's and tend to use both

Mushroomofficeglass · 28/04/2023 08:48

Often these things depend on area. When I moved area I tried a all the main ones and found that tesco were the best. I've used them for years. I have the off peak so I can have any day after 3pm and usually have a delivery every 8 days. Mostly substitutions are fine, not too often. Occasionally get odd one like stir fry vegetables when no peppers. Can easily send subs back and get a quick refund. Our local drivers are great and always extra helpful.

Silverrocks · 28/04/2023 08:52

I agree with PP it depends on area at least a bit.

I like Sainsburys though, I find their fruit and veg cheaper than aldi and the others in the big 4, things always have decent dates and deliveries always on time and polite drivers. I like that if you go for subs it's easy to reject but if you do accept you get the difference in price back (albeit as a voucher to use on your next shop, fine though if you use them often). I usually get a slot for 50p or £1.

ssd · 28/04/2023 09:00

Iceland are brilliant. You can usually get a slot the next day. Drivers very helpful and friendly.

ScottBakula · 28/04/2023 09:05

I use tescos £48 ( I think ) for a year of anytime deliveries . You can often get them in the same day , plus they have whoosh deliveries ( additional cost ) that guarantee deliveries within the hour .
Subs are rare but can be a bit odd sometimes, I know it's not the pickers fault but a few weeks ago I got onion salt instead of spring onions and i was a bit wtf ? But returns are easy , just hand it back to the driver and they credit your bank account .

Roundandnour · 28/04/2023 09:16

If it’s in your area Amazon Morrisons. Amazons fresh and the other one they do are also really good if you’re doing a big shop.

Ive given up this week with Icelands. Had to get too many refunds for defrosted food. But this week tipped me over when I got bread that had a clear hole in and something had eaten through it. Driver was horrified as well when I ran after him to show him. It wasn’t a manufacturing malfunction, could clearly see droppings. Iceland was dismissive until I said ask Dave Smith* the driver.

*made up name

Substitutions most of not all, have the option for no subs.

Oopstheregoesanotherrubbertreeplant · 28/04/2023 09:21

Definitely depends on area. I can't order fresh fruit or veg through Prime as most arrives rotting, bashed or visibly past it's best.

I tend to switch between Sainsbury's and Tesco, depending on which has offers on the things on my shopping list. I use Prime for the occasional top up of frozen and food cupboard items if I don't need a full shop and want to avoid the minimum basket charge.

hauntedvagina · 28/04/2023 09:30

Ocado.

Cheaper than you'd expect, haven't had a sub since Christmas. Never struggled to get a delivery slot (and I have multiple shops come each week). I pay a monthly amount for any day delivery and could technically have one order a day delivered if I wanted to. On the rare occasion they've been late, I've had texts and calls to keep me updated.

I've had a handful of Iceland deliveries and don't really rate them. Time keeping was poor and lots of missing items with little to no communication.

Sainsburys is ok time keeping wise, but always found there were lots of subs that annoyingly ended up costing more.

halfsiesonapotnoodle · 28/04/2023 09:33

Been with Asda for 12 years. On the whole, perfectly happy with them.

Cathyt90 · 28/04/2023 09:33

Another vote for ocado from me. Fresh stuff lasts so much longer, no subs, reliable delivery, easy to get a slot and lots of offers. Plus free delivery for 3 months.

titaniumhip · 28/04/2023 09:34

When I first started using Ocado they had really good offers on like £20 off a £60 shop plus free delivery. I can still usually find a £10 off code online even now. Theres so much choice as well especially if you like organic items. You get far more variety in organic fruit and veg, dairy and meat than your typical supermarket.

Somethings are expensive as the supermarkets they cover are places like Waitrose, M&S and even Harrods. But you can still get essentials like M&S own brand (beans, soup, cereal etc) at decent prices and with the vouchers it makes it worth it.

Also, I just love window shopping through all the fabulous food choices I wouldn't be privy to normally as I live rural and nowhere near any of those stores.

Lozza70 · 28/04/2023 09:35

I like Sainsburys. You can buy an annual pass if you are going to be ordering regularly. If you have a Nectar card not only can you get Nectar Prices, like special offers, but you also get personalised Nectar offers so earn extra points on things you buy often. You can choose subs or not and I find these are sensible but you can send back with the driver if and issue and will get a refund. I’ve had great service when I have needed to call their careline with any issue like damaged products.
They definitely are good value for money and easy to see special offers or know that you are buying things that are lowest price across all shops like Aldi Price Match or Pricelock.

rattymol · 28/04/2023 09:37

In terms of service, Iceland are the best.

Lemondrizzlerain · 28/04/2023 09:38

I like Sainsburys. I'm currently waiting in for my "super saver" delivery. They've substituted tarragon for coriander (was trying out a frugal chicken tarragon tray bake recipe!)

I've also been comparing Ultra Processed ingredients and Sainsburys add it to their products fewer. (Stuff like reformed starch etc)

I'm on quite a strict budget and get a week's shop for a family of 3 for £70-75 a week.

Lemondrizzlerain · 28/04/2023 09:39

Oh yes and by downloading the Nectar app and using those offers you can build up a Nectar balance very quickly. Weve built up £8 in 2 months for us so far which will help towards Christmas

rattymol · 28/04/2023 09:39

Ocado service are second best, followed by Morrisons. Asda delivery staff great, but substitutions are bad. Getting refunds from Sainsbury is hard.

Growlybear83 · 28/04/2023 09:40

I've been using ocado for about 20 years now and they're excellent. It's rare to get a substitution but when this does happen, the alternative is almost always something very similar and sensible. The delivery service is extremely reliable and the drivers have now started bringing the bags indoors again. As another poster said, the range of organic products is much better than other major online supermarkets and they have some really good offers.

Lemondrizzlerain · 28/04/2023 09:41

Getting refunds from Sainsbury is hard I find it really easy. But I guess that's a locality issue.

We don't have Morrisons 😭

DustyLee123 · 28/04/2023 09:42

I like Tesco. Haven’t had a replacement item for a long time. Paying monthly makes the delivery cheap.

HanSB · 28/04/2023 09:42

I've only used Ocado but for over a decade, always reliable and don't get substitutions. I used to pay for delivery but now just get it delivered at 10pm for free

stopringingme · 28/04/2023 09:49

Waitrose I find really good.

I hardly get any substitutions, but if you do they give you a higher priced item for the same cost.

Friendly delivery drivers and one hour slots.

I also use Iceland to fill up the chest freezer in the garage, very rarely get substitutions.

Tesco I only visit in person.

Sainsburys I find expensive so only use as last resort.

Asda have not used for a while as so many substitutions.
