Surely this can't be right?

Before COVID and the COL crisis we used to pay £75 a month for gas & electricity.

This has gone up over that time to £228 a month. We just had our March bill covering the winter period and are £800 in credit.

But British Gas now want to go to £430 a month from 28th April!

Obvs I realise utilities have gone up massively, it's not like I don't read the news but surely it can't be jumping from £230 (in credit) to £450?

That doesn't sound right, no. Have you recently come off a fix or have you been on standard variable? Does it have a yearly estimate on your last bill? I'd expect to pay my estimate, minus last year's credit, divided by 12.

No that doesn't sound right

I was looking at our BG account this morning and we are in credit, I submitted a meter reading and it still won't let me reduce the bill on increase. It's already £222 just for electricity.

*only increase

It sounds a lot but depends on what sort of deal you were on and now are on.

For example people on green tariffs can pay a lot more than the price cap.

What is your kwh usage per year for gas and electric ? Then you can work out the cost of both, and then divide by 12 to get the £ per month.

£480 does sound a lot though.

Did you provide meter readings and have they been accounted for in the bill you just received?

The £67 per month has now stopped so you need to factor that in to your monthly payment e.g I was paying £220 for 6 months and now I will pay £287. My usage has been £300+ over the last few months.

Ours is £330 a month and has been throughout all of last year as the boiler was faulty last winter (2021) and kept going off and I was putting the heating in to dry washer so was costing us a lot. We were in credit last September by about £400 which was refunded but they are going to continue to take the £300 a month
