Just received the usual mid contract price increase from them.
We don't have a huge bundle with them, but the increase will be £15 per month.
Mid contract changes by them absolutely boil my piss, so I'll leave it until my blood pressure stabilises, so the poor soul on the other end of the phone is spared my wrath.

What percent increase is that? Worried about my broadband with Talktalk now, it's already £26.

flotsomandjetsome · 10/03/2023 12:56

Definitely call them, every time they try to charge me full price I call and say nope too much and they give me a good deal. Currently on an allegedly £85 package paying £45, so just been told that £15 increase will go onto the £85 at the end of my deal.

I will be calling them then as there's no way I'd pay that much - good luck!

BarbaraofSeville · 10/03/2023 13:02

Mid contract price increases are the norm now so people need to be aware of them. The rises are particularly big this time because the providers have struck lucky with the increase in inflation.

However, I think I've seen something on Moneysaving Expert that the Virgin price increases might be more than in the contract so if they are, you can negotiate the price or are free to leave. Otherwise, you'd be bound by the terms of the contract that was agreed when taken out.

Justmuddlingalong · 10/03/2023 13:02

27.3% increase.
We're on an 18 month contract, which obviously stands for sod all, as it's only been 10 months.
Wouldn't be that if we wanted to change mid contract.

Then there is the annual 3.9% over inflation increase that they are introducing next April that you need to agree to now.

chimichangaz · 10/03/2023 13:09

Check the email or letter to see if you can cancel without penalty. They were going to hike my prices recently (effective next august) but the email said I could cancel without penalty. Spent about an hour and a half on the phone to them and simultaneously messaging BT for a deal and ended up paying slightly more than I'm paying now, for (allegedly) a much better fibre download speed. They tried really hard to keep me and I got out through to about three people in the end.

I still need to call them about my O2 sim deal as that is also shooting up and I can get a much better deal elsewhere.

RiskyReels · 10/03/2023 13:09

Call them and select the options for "thinking of leaving". I did this recently, was offered £10/month off by the automated system (I could have just pressed a button to accept this) and I waited to speak to a person and got a much bigger discount. I do this every year or so to keep the price reasonable.

Hawkins003 · 10/03/2023 13:11

It is omg at times with the prices

Justmuddlingalong · 10/03/2023 13:17

The letter says that changing or cancelling without penalty is available until 17th of April.
Fair enough.
But it's another pain in the arse thing to deal with.
I'm bloody scunnered.

They refused to shift on ours
We cancelled
sat it out for 3 days
They came back with £8 a month cheaper than the cheapest available for new subscribers and about £48 less a month than they wanted originally.

I am paying £37 for what sounds like the package someone describes above. They wanted £85

moppa · 10/03/2023 13:50

I left without penalty and took up a broadband/tv/Netflix deal with Sky for £40 per month.

Virgin was £34 and I was paying Netflix £11.99 per month anyway so v happy with this.

Virgin has a good WhatsApp contact feature for speaking to their customer service team.

Yes it's hassle but I just went into my local shopping centre, found the Sky man and sorted it out in five minutes.

moppa · 10/03/2023 13:52

Sorry to add Virgin was increasing ours by £9 per month. So it would have taken us to £43 and with the Netflix would have been £54.99 in total.

Absolutely not.

Happy with my new £40 per month Sky deal.

TheFormidableMrsC · 10/03/2023 13:52

I'm cancelling my Virgin. It's such a rip off. I don't watch enough TV to justify it and have Netflix and Disney + for the kids. They are putting my package up by £10 a month mid term so I'm done with it. The £60 a month I'll save will be better used elsewhere.

WinterMusings · 10/03/2023 14:09

my head hurts just thinking about it.

I have talk talk for broadband & Virgin for TV

last year I rang to get a package with Virgin, but it wasn't any cheaper so I left it.

I have the XL package with Virgin, not because I watch much TV, but because if the channels it has.

I like my Tivo box, I'm comfortable with the recording system so I don't really want to change to sky.

but it's just getting too ridiculous between them.

I think I need to buy a recording box & use now (or whatever) & maybe Netflix?! I like to have a recording box so I can watch things like 'The Apprentice' when I can as I can't always watch when it's on. Also because there are things I want to watch but not when they're in & I'm not sure where they are on if I only have 'now' or one of the other options?!

how much hassle (what do they need to do) to change talk talk broadband to Virgin/sky/any other provider?

I'm starting to feel 'old people' when I've always been the one the oldies come to for help.

it's horrible!!

Glame · 10/03/2023 14:15

Lots of these messages recently - all you have to do is ring up, cancel, then a few days later they'll call you back and you can go on your old deal. It's a pain, it's a faff, but it's just how to play the Virgin game at the moment.

KnittedCardi · 10/03/2023 14:20

We've pretty much ditched virgin other than Broadband, which we do pay a lot for, £53/MTH, but we get 259 download speeds as the box is literally on our verge. DH has the whole house and TV in WiFi, so download speeds are important. I have a phone deal at £1.25/MTH for unlimited calls and texts, and 26 meg if data. This is a legacy deal and they are incensed by it. They called me so many times to "upgrade" I had to block them.

We have ditched the land line and the TV Tivo and gone Freeview.

TV wise between us and our kids, we are sharing Netflix, Prime, Disney and Now, but not sure how much longer we will be able to do that in three different houses.

JennyTheDonkey · 10/03/2023 14:33

Just had mine, called them up to haggle (successfully), they sent a new remote for the box and wiped my 70% full box...you win some you lose some.

BelindaMelinda · 10/03/2023 14:37

I don't understand the whole mid contract thing.

Our email from Virgin last month said our package will be increasing by £7 a month but only after our current pricing offer comes to an end - which I assume means at the end of our contract?

Justmuddlingalong · 10/03/2023 15:13

🤯
Well that was easy.
Quick phone call, bundle staying exactly the same.
Price drop for April's bill and exactly the same as I'm paying now for the rest of the contract.
Happy days.

FrangipaniBlue · 10/03/2023 16:55

Sky are the same. I've had email today saying my package is going up by £10 pm.

I swear they put their prices up 2/3 times a year!!!!

Happygirl79 · 15/03/2023 19:36

Spoke to virgin media today. They wanted £6 extra a month. After 45 minutes of being firm but polite they reduced my bill by £6 instead.

whirlyhead · 16/03/2023 14:27

I've been paying £65 for my broadband for about 3 years now and it's brilliant so I'm happy to pay it. A tiny company with great service (you ring them and they answer the phone straight away!) and my broadband is super fast and very reliable. It was neither with BT.

No way I'd pay money for Sky.

EvelynKatie · 16/03/2023 14:46

I used to always ring and cancel when I got these. With Virgin you get better offers if you end the call having agreed to cancel, they always ring back before your contract finally ends with a better offer. Never accept the first offer when you yourself ring to cancel!

If you get a newer tv. You can watch the apprentice etc on catch up at a time to suit you. You don’t need to record it. Same with all the channels you can watch what you want when you want. My mum and dad in their 80s love it.

BeansOnToast32 · 17/03/2023 09:11

My package is supposed to be £124 a month but currently getting it for £93 (I have full tv, broadband, phone and sky sports)

I got the letter at the weekend saying they wanted to put my bill up by £21 a month 🙄 and from May my current deal expires so I'd be paying the £124 plus £21. Phoned up and ended up getting the exact same deal I have now for another 18months and I'm not getting charged the £21.
