Eon sudden increase?

Yesterday I received and email from Eon asking if I wanted to sign up for their ‘Energy Saving Events’ ie the scheme where you can save money by not using energy at peak times on certain days.

I thought this seemed like a good idea so I signed up. As part of the sign up process, my smart meter had to be changed remotely so that it would send readings every 30 minutes. However, my energy usage appears to have doubled overnight! I usually spend £3-£4 per day according to my smart meter. Today it’s already over £8. I haven’t done anything differently. I haven’t even put a wash on today. I’m shitting myself that I have more than doubled my bill by trying to make a saving. Has this happened to anyone else?

Is loop just electricity?
I’m quite happy looking at my meters tbh but my point is if the display unit we are provided with as the consumer either doesn’t work or is inaccurate why should we have smart meters installed. What’s the benefit for us?

Loop works for both fuels.
I find smart meters useful even without an IHD.

Just change supplier if it's that much of an issue for you 🤷‍♀️

This happened to me on Eon after Christmas. On 1st January (no price increase, same tariff) we went from using £8 a day to £12 a day - I keep going through the bill have spent hours on line and can't make head nor tail of it. When I spoke to them they tried explain completely unrelated things very s-l-o-w-l-y because that helps of course.

It seems that if you don't get a smart meter from whoever your current supplier is, its never really going to be reliable. I'm none the wiser. I was going to sign up for that thing too OP but now thinking fucking hell just one more worry I could do without.

It’s not an issue for me as such, I’ve said I check my meters. My point is they are not the all singing all dancing solution to keep an eye on your energy usage supplies are suggesting to encourage you to have one in your home.

Well, weirdly the readings appear to have gone back to normal after the day I started this thread. It was actually on £12 by the time we went to bed! Been back to our usual levels ever since. I’ll be interested to see our next statement.
