Worst/ craziest examples of shrinkflation?

BluebellBlueballs · 15/02/2023 07:37

Manufacturers, we are not stupid. We know you are making everything smaller to look like we are paying the same or only a small increase in price for the same goods.

But have boxes of chocolate eggs ever come on anything less than six in a Bix? Not in all of time. Until yesterday when I got a box of oreo eggs which now has FIVE in the box.

And Toblerones are supposed to be a row of lovely peaks. Now the peaks have big fat valleys between them.

Anyone have any other examples of this?

Everything that hasn't gone up in price has gone down in size. None of my Tesco favourites are available, the stuff I've been buying for years. When I looked it's because all the sizes have shrunk so I've had to add the smaller sizes to my favourites.

The worst thing is that then try and market it as diet friendly by saying only 100 calories per bar or something.

Yes of course its less calories. Cause your only eating half what you used to, the ingredients haven't changed.

Tuna. Tins of. Tiny whiny now so I need two. But then two is a bit too much.

Couldn't work out why my cats had suddenly become ravenous beasties. Turns out that Whiskas have quietly changed their pouch size from 100g to 85g. Poor creatures were on an accidental diet!

Yeah loads of things come in 5s now instead of 6s. I'm waiting for crisps to be next

Catoneverychair · 15/02/2023 08:22

I picked up a large Cadbury bar the other day, I noticed straight away, it was 180g instead of 200g. Went back on the shelf.

Lolacat1234 · 15/02/2023 08:40

Tescos have reduced their 9 pack loo rolls to only 6 in a pack but apparently they are longer rolls? I can't see it really, not by much!

ssd · 15/02/2023 08:51

Ive noticed some multi packs of crisps now have 5 in them instead of 6, the buggers

OffYouPopNow · 15/02/2023 08:55

Every year I order on my home shopping some £1 mini eggs Easter eggs for DN’s. They are usually a fair size. This year I saw they have gone up to £1.25. Not a huge deal thought I…until they arrived. The fit in the palm of my hand so, not only have they gone up, but they have shrunk as well!

-yes I know it’s early for Easter egg shopping, yes I know Cadbury’s are shit.

isthismylifenow · 15/02/2023 08:57

I bought a pack of pork sausages and there were 5 in there. There has always been six. Not notification on the wrapping, they just whipped one out.

And it's really just so wrong for eggs to come in a pack of 5 now. So wrong.

Mmmmdanone · 15/02/2023 09:00

Terry's chocolate orange now have concave segments.

DH came home with a pack of those go ahead Apple biscuits the other day (the ones where you get three biscuits in a wrapper) - always had five packs of the biscuits in but this one had four.

rubydoobydoo · 15/02/2023 09:42

Peperamis! They are HALF the size the used to be for the same price, I used to love them as a snack but don't bother with them any more as I'd need two!

daisychain01 · 15/02/2023 09:47

Nescafé Cappuccino 10 in a box, now 8 - and no sprinkles

Philly soft cheese was 340 grams now 280 grams

Most washing liquids have different pack sizes so they have the ideal opportunity to reset the price to be more expensive and do supermarket promos which aren't special offers they are just manipulating between pack sizes and prices to make the consumer think they're getting a reduction.

Supermarkets and FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) working in cahoots.

a lot of products have increased in price and reduced in size so it's a double whammy. Every time the quarterly profits are released for all these global and National brands, you know they will report whopping profits. Backed by the Government.

Sandysandwich · 15/02/2023 09:47

In tesco, the 6 pack of apples that come on an indented cardboard tray now only have 5. It looks weird as there is an empty space in the tray. And they are more expensive anyway

I was given a Toblerone Valentine's version yesterday and it was full size, no big gaps in the middle! So maybe they backtracked on it 🤔

I nearly forgot about bacon.

We used to get a 300g packet.
Then they sneakily reduced it to 250g
Now it's 200g!

Dogsitterwoes · 15/02/2023 10:24

Tesco 'Aldi price match' Pringles tubes are much smaller than the standard non price matched tubes a few inches down the shelf.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/02/2023 10:30

Gold Bars! Used to be in3 sections that you could break off and covered in thick chocolate.

Now they are just pathetic. Tiny, with think chocolate,

ifonly4 · 15/02/2023 10:46

On top of Nescafe reducing the amount of sachets and no sprinkles, they've gone up from £1.69 to £2.10.
