How was yours?

For me:

1 bed flat with just me in it. Heating on at 21 in the day, 18 overnight this year for health reasons. Tumble dryer used once a week.

Gas 1570kwh / £160.77 (last year 706kwh)

Electric 56kwh / £18.49 (last year 149kwh)

Standing charges £23.16

£202.42 altogether, so about what I expected.

Gas and electric combined is working out around £10 per day ( give or take) and has been the same for the last three months. We are 4 bed detached, new boiler two years ago. Two adults and two children, this includes regular use of tumble dryer and dishwasher. So Jans bill was £317.

Pootle40 · 01/02/2023 21:57

Large 4 bed detached in Scotland. £522 for gas and elec.

SilentHedges · 01/02/2023 22:39

2 bed Victorian semi, draughty, 2 adults. Gas central heating, gas hob, electric oven, no tumble dryer, working from home. Heating on 4pm -10pm or most of the day when below freezing. Never on at night. £85 electricity, £102 gas.

SilentHedges · 01/02/2023 22:42

To add to the above, Dreamland heated throws have been the best investment and kept us so warm.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 02/02/2023 00:04

£75 electric, £10 gas.

Lysianthus · 02/02/2023 00:11

3 bed house, just me, some occasional guests, £167 gas and electricity.

Olidora · 02/02/2023 00:11

Am dreading our bill .Husband retired and doesn’t do anything to try and keep bill down…head in sand mentality! Shall wait and see !

grannycake · 02/02/2023 06:40

£90 elec and £165.43 gas (before Govt payment) - £45 lower than December. Thermostat was broken in December and was finally replaced mid January. Heating on 19 from 6.30 until 2.00 then use logburner late afternoon and evening

middleager · 02/02/2023 06:47

Family of four. Two of us wfh. Heating on for 2hrs of a morning and 4hrs on evening.

Gas £197
Electric £88

middleager · 02/02/2023 06:48

Forgot to add 4/5 draughty bedroom house

Celeryfavour · 02/02/2023 07:17

£65 electricity and £105 gas. I have had the heating on for a few hours after school at 15, can't afford more as my mortgage has increased so much.

RelativePitch · 02/02/2023 08:02

4 bed house, 4 people.
£141 for electricity
£12 for gas because they still haven't fixed my meter despite me nagging BG since October! God knows what figure they'll come up with in the future.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 02/02/2023 09:57

Our bills are high. 4 bed detached, 4 people, 1960s draughty house & I wfh. Heating on 18c during the day and 19c morning and evening, 17c overnight.

Elec = 380.71 kwh = £139.37
Gas = 2965.20 kwh = £314.17
total £453.54, ouch.

Like PP we have used all our credit on account this month and I am topping up the £250pm DD with credit card payments.

PissedUpLightweightEmptyHeadedNooNoo · 02/02/2023 10:02

£115 electricity and £159 gas.

Not too bad really, 5 people in a 4 bed house, plus we have an EV so that also covers car fuel.

AuntieMarys · 02/02/2023 10:03

£350 mid Dec to mid January. Was the same the month before. Will be less January to February as we haven't had heating on as much

IrishSee · 02/02/2023 10:55

Mine is horrendous, £600 for January and similar for December. Luckily I had a good stash in credit from overpaying since last summer even before we came off our fixed rate deal.

4 bed 1920s house, only partially double glazed but we have thermal curtains over all single glazed windows and doors (and don't tend to use those rooms in winter), plus an open fire downstairs. DC have been moaning that I keep the heating and boiler temp too low, and it's only on for a couple of hours twice a day, but it's going to have to go down further. They also need to cut their showers down to 5/10 minutes, wish I could just put the water on cold after 10 minutes. We've cut down our energy usage by over 1000kwh compared to Dec & January last year, but it's still way too high, so god knows what it is going on (over 3000 kwh per month in winter).

User76765 · 02/02/2023 11:02

Large six bed in an isolated area. No gas but we used about £200 in oil, electricity was £205. I have solar panels but they don't generate much in January.

RoseBucket · 02/02/2023 11:05

Not had mine yet but I’m guessing around £100 combined. 3 bed modern house and Mainly just me, no heating unless drops to freezing.

RoseBucket · 02/02/2023 11:06

Also rates are increasing again for everyone in April. I hope it warms a little by then!

Colourinsidethelines · 02/02/2023 11:08

£285 for both. Electric £160 and Gas £125. 3 bed mid terrace with no cavity insulation. I am careful with it but DD uses a ventilator overnight which uses a lot of electric and she feels the cold a lot due to her disabilities so the heating goes in regularly. Try not to put it on when she is at school though.

JooftheNorth · 02/02/2023 11:12

£336 Dec and £334 Jan. Three house levels, five people. Thermostat stays on 19 when it's on. Dehumidifier on a lot.

Onegingerhead · 02/02/2023 11:25

Electricity 125 kWh/ £56
gas 989 kW/ £102
plus standing charges

This is 3 bed semi, heating constantly on 19C during the day, off at night.
We are good on electricity without trying to be frugal. Hopefully will use much less gas in February/March and stop using it for heating come April

Dougieowner · 02/02/2023 11:28

£185 for G&E so better than Dec.

4-Bed det newbuild.
I WFH every day and we weren't particularly going out of our way to save money (no more than normal but still use tumble dryer, heating etc) so relatively happy and from what I am reading are in a much better position than some.

Have been paying £200/m DD almost since moving in so have built up a very healthy buffer and at £185 minus £66 Gov Sub it is still well under budget.
Content for Eon to sit on our money for now and will wait to see what happens to energy prices over the summer before deciding how much to drop the DD.

JadeSeahorse · 02/02/2023 13:54

Just had ours and quite pleased bearing in mind current rates.

4 bed pretty well insulated 4 bed detached but only DH and I at home now. Both retired!

Switched electric from Eco 7 to svr at the start of this month. GCH on 24 hrs per day between 12 and 16 but gas fire in sitting room on lowest setting for 10 hours per day too.

Total bill December - we were away until 06 December - £388
Total bill January - here every day - £359
These figures don't include the £66/67 being given by the Government.

Fingers crossed we have found a routine which works for us, no discomfort and keeps us warm.

I was expecting around £450. Am I mad for saying I am quite pleased? 🙄

HeidiWhole · 02/02/2023 14:09

Almost £600 (after deductions) and looking at comparable house sizes on this thread I have no idea why. Heating minimal during day, on for a few hours in the evening, boiler is new. Tumble drier is useless so haven't used it for months. Frugal as we can be with washing machine and dishwasher. No one uses the bath, showers all round. No idea where we are going wrong
