xogossipgirlxo · 25/01/2023 15:42

£22 spent on Valentine's day gift for husband. Whisky tasting set from M&S (nice ones, like 12 years old Scottish single malts, his favourite type) and card. It goes from birthdays&gifts savings pot though 😊

Home. Thrown the dirty laundry suitcase in the garage. The rest are in the downstairs bathroom to be dealt with tomorrow.

our cleaner did a deep clean and organise while we were away. So the house is looking fab. £160

dm stocked the fridge for us.

ddad took car for service (£775 yikes!)

dd has got her school place - yay. Just need to complete paperwork and get it back by Monday.

all showered and now in bed. Waiting for the inevitable crash.

that shower after travelling has to be the best thing ever

CurlsandCurves · 25/01/2023 20:32

Glad you’re all home safe @ememem84 , and to come home to a nice clean house, fantastic! Laundry can wait.

Spends of just over £6 in Superdrug for face wash for ds2 and deodorant for ds1.

ds1 started his intensive driving course this week. And due to a cock up on their side, his test has been booked for this Friday, not next! However his instructor has said (braggy parent alert) that he’s never had someone so confident and natural at driving and thinks he’ll be fine. DH passed within 6 weeks so that’s where he gets it from, certainly not from me!

So he needs to decide if he wants to take his test early and the money for the other lessons can go towards motorway lessons. Which would be amazing as he will be doing a lot of motorway driving as part of his job. If he fails and can still try again next week, then I think it’s worth doing.

marthasmum · 25/01/2023 20:43

Oo sounds a nice homecoming em
Welcome back to the thread girlie I think I’ve joined since you last posted. We have had stress with our teenage DD, it was an awful time, I’m glad your DD’s situation has improved.
Good for your DS curls. I think my DD will also be a better driver than me. She got a report from her black box and the only infringement is when I drove her car (26 in a 20 zone that I hadn’t clocked ).

I was boasting a couple of weeks back about my cheap house insurance…I’ve looked at the small print when the documents came and there is a question about whether your house or a house within 100m has flooded. I mustn’t have read it right and answered no. Our house has never flooded but a nearby terrace has and I can’t remember exactly which of the houses were affected. It’s between 91 and 100m away. I’m going to have to ring them and check aren’t I?? Luckily insurance doesn’t start til 1 Feb. DP says leave it it will be fine - this is why I don’t let him do the house insurance…
What does anyone think?

BigSkies2022 · 25/01/2023 21:21

Welcome home. em. Sounds like your re-entry has gone as well as possible, and great news about school place.

No point in having insurance that wouldn't be valid in the event of a claim, martha. Although if the claim were unrelated to flooding, would it even be an issue? I'm very risk-averse on stuff like this, though. Insurance is a bugger isn't it? you spend a lot of money, and take a lot of care choosing a product that you pray you have no need to use.

£22 in Aldi yesterday, but back to Co-Op for onions, broccoli and, um, a salted caramel cake, £5 in total. Macaroni cheese tonight, followed by cake. DH and I have agreed that we will add a reduction in our carb intake to our no-booze regime in February. Lots of laundry and cleaning today, after a muddy walk in the woods with Ddog.

Dmum very happy with new hearing aids, CT scan tomorrow and GP review of blood tests and meds next week and then - fingers crossed - things can settle down. DDad has had tissue taken for biopsies on various skin lesions, and is a bit of a patchwork of stitches and dressings at present, results in about 4 weeks. Old age is not for cissies, is it?

Have been looking at 'architectural walking trails' of Leeds for this weekend - just need some decent weather, and Saturday is forecast mild (is) and sunny (in parts).

Unescorted · 25/01/2023 21:31

Martha tell them... Otherwise it will give them a reason to not pay out if you claim.

Em... Good to have you back safe and sound.

I am terrible for food waste. I need to clean out the fridge and do a proper meal plan for this week. The cupboards and freezer are good - I did them recently.

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 25/01/2023 21:40

marthasmum · 25/01/2023 22:25

Thank you for all your replies. mrs you have me spot on, I would only worry about it if I don’t confess 😂 and also correct that if info is not 100% correct they wouldn’t pay.
Sounds like you have a lot going on with your DParents big, it must be stressful.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 25/01/2023 22:28

NSD.

Happier that's really funny that you remembered my old car! Yes it was an aygo fab car but was getting on a bit and I needed something a bit bigger. It held its value so well, I paid £5000 for it 5 years ago and got £3100 got at the dealership. I was happy with that, I've got a Hyundai i10 now and so far I'm happy with it.

Martha yes my dd has given me a lot of grey hairs over the last few years, lockdown was a disaster for her and we're still not totally out the other side of that yet sadly.

I haven't even sorted her provisional license yet, so can't sort any driving lessons for her yet.

marthasmum · 25/01/2023 22:39

girlie we also struggled during lockdown. Would not wish it on anyone. She is on meds still and without saying too much, there are issues ahead I know we will need to deal with. But but day to day things are pretty steady and she is great company, and has university in her sights . Wishing all the best for your DD.

Happierwithouthim · 26/01/2023 06:03

Girlie that's funny I was just looking at Hyundai i40s online yesterday! I read that a car shouldn't cost you more than 35% of your annual income & I entered that in a search along with diesel & max 80km mileage & there were 7 cars available 2 of which were i40s.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 26/01/2023 08:36

Happier I've been on another thread that was talking about cars which mentioned the i40s can have issues with their clutch- apparently it's just that model. Interesting re the 35% of annual income, I didn't go that high but was shocked generally by the cost of second hand cars at the moment.

Pay day tomorrow, can see the money pending!!

Need to get a budget sorted as lots to pay for this month.

Happierwithouthim · 26/01/2023 08:53

It just shows how much they've gone up that you got over 60% of what you paid for your car 5 years later.

I've had my car 7.5 years so far, so I'll be as good as starting from scratch.

Will finish paying for dd's teeth and then we're going to Canada so I'd say it'll be into next year before I make any move.
