Thought I'd start the new thread. Been ages since I started a thread!

oldweegie this is a follow on thread that's been going for up to 10 years at this stage I think, with various posters joining and leaving and lurking along the way! All welcome.

I totally get what you mean about buying new rather than searching through clutter to find item. Getting better though.

I read something yesterday and it said that we are just shuffle or reorganising or stuff rather than decluttering, that struck a cord with me, more things need to leave!

This week is the first week in months that I'll be going overbudget on food, buying a tray of 30 eggs for €14 from a farmer that is doing sustainable farming, if they're nice I'll continue to buy from there. I eat eggs most days. I had my own hens before but there are foxes near my home and I'd also need to get them looked after whenever I'd be away so I'm slow to get more.

xogossipgirlxo · 24/01/2023 16:08

Logging another small spending. I bought on vinted two bamboo and cotton blankets for baby. One was for £2.50 and originally 20 quid! I was looking for something natural as I'm due in the summer, so want something breathable for walks or day naps (not for the nights obviously) 😁Total £10.50 incl. postage. This will go to my excel file where I will track baby stuff spending.

Happierwithouthim · 24/01/2023 17:25

€5.97 on a disappointing quiche, onion rings & chips from deli counter
??? for the chip on my tooth I got as a result Sad
€5.95 on 4 foundation samples, 2 of these were free so most of it was postage. I like their concealer so we'll see how foundation measures up.

Welcome @OldWeegie I’m the same with just nipping into the shop for top ups and buying crap I don’t need.

It was meant to be a NSD today. But I took a top back to Next and found a gorgeous dress. To be fair to myself I very rarely buy new clothes, the top I took back was for working out in and I decided I couldn’t justify it. But the dress is just gorgeous and I’ve got a 40th birthday party coming up that I need something to wear for. This will be perfect. And it comes in other prints too!

Gensola · 24/01/2023 20:18

Shit happier how did you chip your tooth on quiche?! Eggs here are so so expensive and often out of stock. The ones that come with our veg box have gone from £2.20 to £3.00 in 6 months. They’re organic and roaming chickens.
We use a Monzo pot for food, since August 2021 so around 18 months and we have averaged £494 a month for food in that time, that will also cover cleaning stuff and cat food and basic toiletries. But there are only 2 of us plus a cat! Argh. It’s definitely been more the last 6 months or so.

CurlsandCurves · 24/01/2023 20:19

The dress. It’s definitely not that short on me, unless I picked up the tall version (I’m 5ft9)

Belter of a dress curls. I love it And it looks like a good value "price per wear" dress.

Unescorted · 24/01/2023 20:25

Hi old. Thinking about this thread it has been going since DD was 5. She is now in her final year at uni. I have known some of the posters on here longer than most of my rl friends. They are saints for putting up with decades of my moaning. The best bit is how welcoming it is... Just jump in post away and before you know it you too will fall into its time warp.

I have done a ricket. I bought the cake ingredients for small boy's birthday cake assuming he would want his usual chocolate, hazelnut, coffee, and praline concoction. He doesn't... Chocolate orange is this year's request. Grrrr At least the eggs I wrestled from the arms of a frail pensioner can be used.

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/01/2023 20:27

Wow have we really been going that long , gosh

how annoying unescorted on the cake change

welcome more new people

thats a lovely dress and bargain at £28

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 24/01/2023 20:33

Hello all, I'm now an occasional poster who used to be a regular! Recognise a few long term frugaleers 👋

I need to get back on the frugal bandwagon on bought a new car last week, it pretty much cleared out my savings although I think I got a fair deal on the part exchange.

I have zero money now until payday on Friday 😬 it should be fine as have enough food and petrol and no other planned spends...

Dd is going to be 17 in a couple of weeks 😳

Unescorted · 24/01/2023 20:36

That is a lovely dress curls

Yes we have been going that long because I remember posting when we were away in the camper... And we went before we had to make excuses for not having her in school. I wasn't Unescorted then.

Unescorted · 24/01/2023 20:40

Hey girlie lovely to see you back.

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/01/2023 20:47

Hey girlie nice to see you. How are you and dd doing?

CurlsandCurves · 24/01/2023 21:02

Hiya @Girliefriendlikespuppies long time no see!

Timetoswitch · 24/01/2023 21:52

Welcome newbies

and welcome back girlie, how is your DD doing? I’ve had a name change since you were last here I think.

I’ve opened a stocks and shares Isa for the first time, I’ve always been a bit scared of them 😂 only starting with the minimal amount, and used the offer in this weeks MSE email.

Timetoswitch · 24/01/2023 21:53

I think I’ve now been here 6 years. Wow!

Theskyoutsideisblue · 24/01/2023 22:08

I have been here under various names on and off for 7 years. Definitely need to be more accountable. Had some needed home improvement done. Now owe £11000. Ouch. Can pay off interest free in 9 months. Now that’s a challenge.
@Girliefriendlikespuppies good to see you back. Think from memory you are in the same county as me.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 24/01/2023 22:21

Aww nice to see you all 😀

We're doing okay, dd is at college now and still has her ups and downs but generally is okay. I'm alright, still single, still working lots and still skint 😂

I think it must be nearly 8 or 9 years since I first posted on the thread 😳

Hope you're all okay?

How's everyone finding their gas and electric bills? Mine has tripled and I still don't think we'll break even 😢 the thermostat is set around 4 degrees lower than last winter!! This cold snap better end soon 🥶

Cullenskink · 24/01/2023 22:33

Hi, can I join you all and stop lurking? I’ve been on the no spend January/2023 threads too, you are definitely my people!
I joined a log-burner cooking group today…realised I’m actually nervous about trying jacket potatoes in my ash pan but have absolutely no idea why, which I somehow find rather funny. Am determined to do them this week now.
I am incredibly fortunate as the wood that provides my heating (and the kettle and some cooking) for the entire house costs my a grand total of £3 a week all year round. It does mean I have a lot of chainsawing and splitting to do constantly, especially as I do it for two elderly neighbours too, but I’m very fortunate.

lifelongfrugaleer · 25/01/2023 06:10

Good to hear you are doing ok girlie

let us know how the potatoes go, I guess it’s the same theory as bonfire or camp fire cooking

Captainladder · 25/01/2023 06:50

Morning all! Gah..... just lost my post which was quite long 😭
Curves - that dress looks amazing!

unescorted - if you have enough eggs (and time!!) you could always make both cakes and freeze the amazing sounding praline one (and any chance of the recipie?! - I run a village cafe and we make all
our cakes.... always looking for new ones to try out!)

cullen - I shall have to have a look for log burner cooking ideas.... we have one too and partly because I thought it would be good in the event of power cuts / no gas etc but the reality is that I hardly use it and would have no idea how to cook with it!!

waiting in on a couple of deliveries today so should be a NSD and one where I hopefully get my tax return submitted (well under the threshold for tax as only started cafe in April 21!)

need to look into pensions too as I'm 45 and don't have one 👀.

have a great day everyone!

I opened mine few days ago. First DD will go on 7th, my 30th birthday 😬

Happierwithouthim · 25/01/2023 12:34

Gen technically I chipped it on an onion ring, but it's a tooth that's been built up with filling material as dh knocked a chunk off the end of it years ago Angry the current filling has been there a good while so I suppose I've done well enough out of it. I'll book teeth cleaning and fixing it together I think.

Girlie good to see you I remember when you bought current car if I remember rightly it was a Toyota Aygo or something similar? Why can I remember stuff like this and then not retain relevant detail about important stuff? Hmm

Saw a lovely Terrys choc orange cheesecake recipe made with belvitas & protein puddings and the like yesterday.

Your planned cake sounds fab too unescorted

Reason I'm thinking 10 years plus as I remember being on the thread prior to expecting ds and he's 9. My spreadsheet at the time was entitled "The Road to being Debt Free" I got there in 2020. I'm in debt again since last year but hopefully will sort that out soon too, if I keep current car going, it's not giving any trouble but I do have itchy feet.

Will catch up later but I’m at Heathrow. Waiting for my flight home. The dc are absolute heroes. They coped amazingly with the flights (5hr from perth then 13hr from Singapore with a 2 hr switcharoo).

we are jet lagged to hell. Grumpy. Hyped up. Poor. Tanned. Cold. Exhausted. And ready to get home.
