£100 grant If you use electricity, but don’t use gas for your heating

I was on the government website looking for information about the Energy Price Guarantee and the Energy Bills Support Scheme and came across the information that if you don’t have gas or electric heating you are entitled to £100 towards the cost of heating.
we have biomass wood pellets which are ridiculously expensive and have increased in price by 45% since January.
Has any one heard about this payment?

Sorry title doesn’t make much sense!

I have read about it as we are on oil, but it says off the gas grid which we are not. Our predecessors in the house never had the house connected to the mains gas and so the gas pipe stops at the bottom of our drive, so unsure if this will count. There have been no updates on how or when this will be paid or how you prove that you do not have a gas supply. It was much easier to sort out the electricity payments as most but not all people are connected to mains electricity.

Interesting. Thank you - that's us - we are on oil, not on the gas grid.

Bytrgrewd · 06/10/2022 20:06

Thank you. I was surprised to read it when I haven’t heard about it at all. £100 will really help (about two weeks heating in winter). We have no mains gas in the area so I guess a bit easier to prove!

That's us - we're on a biomass boiler and no gas in our valley. Can you provide a link please?

Really? That’s us too! Oil tank and no mains gas. Thank you

FreddyHG · 06/10/2022 20:14

Following with interest. We have no gas but normally use a heat pump and the multi fuel stove.

Bytrgrewd · 06/10/2022 20:14

I wonder why this hasn’t been made more public?

toobusytothink · 06/10/2022 20:14

How do you apply. Too lazy to read it all 😄

Happycroc · 06/10/2022 20:17

This is us so following with interest!

Hmmm from citizens advice

If you don’t use gas or electricity to heat your home

You might be able to get extra financial help if you:

rely on oil, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), coal or wood as your main source of heating
aren’t on the gas grid

You’ll need to show that you can't heat your home because you can't afford to buy fuel - or you might not be able to afford it soon.

so not for everyone

rageapplied · 06/10/2022 20:20

This has been publicised in Northern Ireland because so few houses are on gas here. No idea how it's going to work though sorry

toobusytothink · 06/10/2022 20:20

And from goffpetroleum

The Government has realised that issuing a £100 fixed payment for heating oil users is not straight forward. Due to the fact this is off-grid energy, not network supplied directly into the home and the fact that consumers have far more choice over supply. As such the trade body for the liquid fuel distribution industry UKIFDA is working closely with Government to find a timely solution. Once the government publishes information to how this scheme will work, we will seek to share this information.

so looks like no one knows how you claim

Happycroc · 06/10/2022 20:21

I’ve just quickly read the page but I can’t see that it has any information on how to apply

Damn… that’s not what it seems to be saying on the government site 😩

Thanks. Seems to be the same scheme. Hope it happens!

Well we would technically be eligible, but not convinced they will give us any support.

bigbluebus · 06/10/2022 20:35

I heard about the £100 payment a couple of weeks ago. The company we buy our oil from also put a post on Facebook saying it hadn't been worked out how the money would be paid as it's not straightforward to just knock it off oil invoices as customers can use any supplier.

AsterixInEngland · 06/10/2022 20:45

What about people like PIL who are still on wood plus coal to hear the house?
Appreciate there won’t be many people like that but the price if coal has increased a lot too!

Would be great if there was more info!

Bytrgrewd · 06/10/2022 21:03

I’ll post here if I find anything more
