EDF & Energy Bill Support Scheme

I'm with EDF & pay monthly by Direct Debit.

I had an email from them on 24th September regarding the 'UK Government's Energy Bills Support Scheme' - basically a convoluted way of talking about the £400 that we will all be getting.
According to their email, it's due to start October 2022
As I pay by monthly Direct Debit there will be an automatic refund to the bank account from which the DD is taken.

3rd October - my monthly Direct Debit has been taken - 1st working day since the start of the month.
No sign of the £66 either in my bank account or even credited to my EDF account balance.

Have any other EDF monthly DD customers received their £66 yet?

Has anyone received a bill for their usage up til midnight 30/09/22 yet?

Am just wondering whether we'll receive a bill up til then as the SVR changed at 0001 on 01/10/22.

Also... I took a meter reading on 30th September ie photographed it & emailed the photo to myself so it's all dated 30/09. Although I have a smart meter, should give EDF that meter reading just in case?

Obviously I've looked through all their useless FAQs plus am trying to contact via WhatsApp & SMS & am number gazillion in the queue hence me asking Mumsnet!

Is your DD for the full / actual cost each month, or a set amount each month?

We are only 2.5 hours into the first working day of the month, I am looking for my e mail but I don’t think they gave a definite date?

I would lay off trying to contact them by every route for the time being. The important thing is that it is in time for your next bill, based on the increases. So there is almost a month to go.

MenopauseSucks · 03/10/2022 10:44

The DD amount remains the same each month.

The DD amount remains the same each month.

Ok, so they say An automatic refund each month to the bank account your Direct Debit payments are taken from

But they don't commit to a date.

Your next DD will presumably be Nov 3rd, so you will have received the refund by then.

Go to this page to check if you need to submit a meter reading www.edfenergy.com/for-home/help-support/help-centre/do-i-need-take-part-meter-reading-day?steps=23929-23927#node-23927

To try it out I checked that you are on variable rate and yes to a smart meter - and the answer is NO you do not need to submit a meter reading because you have a smart meter.

Hi, you are unlikely to receive the credit on the same day as you pay the direct debit.

This is because energy suppliers need to know that the direct debit has cleared, before they do the refund. For info even if it doesn’t clear, you would still get the £66, but probably as a credit to your account rather than a cash refund.

I think the goal is to give the refund ‘within a few days’ (within a week, I would expect). You will definitely get it during the month.

For info, energy suppliers can’t actually use the cash they get from the government until it’s been applied to your account, so energy suppliers will want to apply it quickly too !

Complicated - I know.

NoWordForFluffy · 03/10/2022 17:48

I've not had the credit yet, but wouldn't expect to this soon. I've also not had the bill yet, but imagine they're quite busy.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for a week or so!

djslapper · 04/10/2022 18:50

Hi,
My DD goes out on 5th of each month but there's nowhere anywhere that EDF say a date and been waiting 2 days for a reply back through WhatsApp so fingers crossed a few days after your own DD date? Please keep us updated!

OlaOlaOla · 05/10/2022 22:44

Hi all , EDF credited £66 to my account with them earlier today, then checked again tonight and it’s gone from the total, it says
refund £66 then above it says
credit £66 . It hasn’t been put in my bank account so I’ve no idea where it is 🤔

hamustro · 06/10/2022 18:30

For anyone who is interested, I also pay by monthly DD with EDF. I was in the same position as @OlaOlaOla yesterday, so I just checked again and it's changed to this. I am assuming this means the payment will be in my bank account in 5 working days. I pay on the 1st of the month so I'm guessing it might be different for those of you with different DD dates.

I must admit I was confused when I saw the credit yesterday as it contradicted EDF's email! All makes sense now though.

I've checked my account and my energy provider has credited me £66 of my own money where I've built up credit 🤔. No sign of my energy account being credited from the government. I don't understand any of it.

Atmywitsend29 · 07/10/2022 20:41

Mine has been credited today.

nearly55 · 11/10/2022 19:19

On the EDF website FAQs it says that the £66 will be credited within 5 working days of your DD payment being received.

My edf bills says I'm getting a refund of £66, but isn't this just giving me my own money back ? As my bill credit hasn't gone up

We had similar. I think what they have done is taken £66 off the amount you owe and then credited £66 to my account.

I have got the refund, but this is just my money as my account credit has gone down by the £66, it does say my account has been credited with £66, but this isnt showing on the account yet. Ive just rang EDF and the lady there seemed to suggest that you only get the £66 from the government if you account was in the red. I dont think this is the case and am just waiting for a manager to ring me back.

MenopauseSucks · 12/10/2022 11:13

My payment was made!
It was credited to my EDF account on 5th October.
Then marked as a refund on 5th October.
It didn't arrive in my bank account until the 10th October but this was a Monday & I guess the weekend got in the way.

Now I'm wondering when I'll receive my bill as I'm SVR.
Presumably with the beginning of the new SVR on 01/10, it makes sense that they will soon send us a bill dated up until 23.59 on the 30/09 on the previous SVR.
They then send us a bill in maybe 3-6 months based on the SVR that began 01/10.
Or is that too much like common sense? I'm interested to see how it works out.

In the meantime, I will continue to take meter readings - photo & email to myself - on the 1st of every month.

My £66 from edf was in my bank this morning.

Mossy23 · 17/10/2022 09:13

My 66 pounds not gone into my account yet and I pay by dd on the 20th

SteCon42 · 17/10/2022 22:12

The way the system does this is to give an account credit of £66 and then remove this and change it to a refund. This is then paid in 5 working days.

SteCon42 · 17/10/2022 22:13

Yours will start on the 20th October

You haven’t paid Octobers direct debit yet, your payment will come after Octobers direct debit

MangosteenSoda · 17/10/2022 22:22

I thought it would just get credited to my EDF account, thus reducing my end bill. So I was really surprised to find 66 extra £ in my bank account the other day. I actually think this method isn’t that great as it is easier to spend the money than allocate it to a bill that might not be calculated for another 6 months.

Luana1 · 17/10/2022 22:38

We pay our DD on the 1st and we got the £66 in our bank account 5 days later..

Waspi · 21/10/2022 17:21

I'm very worried about my EDF electricity bill, because instead of adding the £66 to my account they have deducted it. I'm therefore £132 less well-off than I should be. Even if I get £66 into my bank account it will mean I get nothing. Anyone else with this problem?

Thanks

J123X · 25/10/2022 17:34

EDF credited 66 pounds and then took a refund. Meaning that I did not get the 66 pounds. Still waiting.

AtomicBlondeRose · 25/10/2022 19:43

How it shows up on your payments is that they have credited your account with £66 and then issued a refund, yes. The refund is them paying the money out to you. They couldn’t pay it out without crediting it first as it would be coming out of your own money.
