WFH-ers...how are you planning to keep warm in the day this winter without spending a fortune?

The last couple of winters DH and I were both WFH so it didn't seem wasteful to have the heating on for an extra hour here and there to take the chill off. Plus, obvs, gas was basically free compared to this winter coming 😂. We have the heating on for an hour in the mornings and then a couple of hours early evening, then usually go to bed when it gets chilly. Going to try and avoid having it on other than that wherever possible.

I'm planning to get a small oil radiator for my office (only to be switched on when absolutely necessary), buy some sheepskin bootie slippers (apparently warmer than synthetic materials?), and layer up clothes, blanket on lap, wear a hat between Teams calls. Plus a lot of soup. Anything obvious I'm missing?

I have an electric blanket I wrap round myself. My house is freezing in winter and it works well.

DisforDarkChocolate · 22/08/2022 21:19

I love my electric throw.

I may go to the local library if I have work that isn't confidential.

Unescorted · 22/08/2022 21:19

I used a hot water bottle inside a sleeping bag for the last 2 winters... The heating wasn't on any longer than other years.

Whataretheodds · 22/08/2022 21:20

I'm going to go into the office more often and work from the warmest room when i don't

dribblewibble · 22/08/2022 21:20

Electric throw

Christmasiscominghohoho · 22/08/2022 21:21

Hot water bottles, fluffy socks, oodie, blankets

chillipenguin · 22/08/2022 21:21

Thermals fingerless gloves and an oodie

SecretPotionofCirce · 22/08/2022 21:21

I’ve installed hive with individual TRVS so that I can heat my office. I’ll move my workspace into a south facing room in the winter too depending on how warm my office is.

I won’t wear a hat or any of that jazz or work in a cold room as I need the air to be warm otherwise I’ll have an asthma attack.

goinggreatthanks · 22/08/2022 21:22

I have 5 various heated covers. I’ll wear them all at once!

AntlerRose · 22/08/2022 21:22

Slightly different but my school office wasnt heated and we had the windows open for ventilation - i bought lovely thermals and fingerless gloves to wear. The thermals really helped.
I also got up and moved around frequently.

Hopefully you can keep your windows closed at home.

Movement and little 5min bursts of exercise.

This sounds so cosy!
I agree with other in using an electric blanket. They're really cosy. And I make sure I don't let myself get too cold as it takes longer to warm up. So as soon as I'm dressed, warm cosy socks, hoodie etc and then the blanket in low and it keeps me nice and warm for the day.

Festivalpartygirl · 22/08/2022 21:24

I have got an electric Sherpa lined foot warmer - a Lidl middle of the isle special - game changer - If I can keep my feet warm I can keep the rest of me warm with a fleece/oodie with a hot water bottle inside.

MrsMontyD · 22/08/2022 21:31

Boot style slippers, blanket around my legs, blanket around my shoulders if it's cold enough and an electric heater under the desk.

I ended up with condensation marks on the ceiling last winter from working in a small room with a heater on and the window shut, so might have to have a dehumidifier running some of the day this year, the house has been decorated and is on the market.

ObjectionHearsay · 22/08/2022 21:45

Layers, lots of layers.

Thermal underwear, (as in thermal best top, and thermal leggings) then joggers, t-shirt, jumper, then a fleece blanket. Thick socks and slippers on my feet. I've sat in my house with my ski jacket on before 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

I am lucky in that some of my job is in the community, so I can blast the heaters in the car whilst I drive 😳

Sooveritallnow · 22/08/2022 21:45

I plan to do what I did last winter and sit in a sleeping bag at my desk and wear a chunky scarf. I was very toasty.

obsessedwithblankets · 22/08/2022 21:49

Turtledoves fingerles gloves. I can type with them on!
I've been prepping for the winter - thick duvets for the kids, hot water bottles, throws, thermals.

Gresde · 22/08/2022 21:49

How much do the electric blankets cost to run?

Dunnoburt · 22/08/2022 21:52

Blankets and huddling down to work in our south facing room!.....the cat on the lap always helps too !

Dasher789 · 22/08/2022 21:56

Its £13 per day for my train so if i wfh i can blow that on the gas

StarDolphins · 22/08/2022 22:00

I keep my hat, scarf & gloves on & wear my fake oodie & if it gets really cold I have a hot water bottle.

id it gets too cold for my dog, I put the heating on!

MomwasCasual · 22/08/2022 22:02

I work from the kitchen, as that's just where I ended up preferring to be. We have no radiator in there as it's south facing and super hot in summer, and heats up quickly during the winter when we start cooking etc. But it does mean during the winter days it's cold!

I find as long as my feet/ ankles, wrists and chest are warm, I feel fine- so thick socks with joggers tucked in, cashmere wrist warmers and a scarf and I'm good. I do have an Oodie as well, but that can be overkill- I sometimes feel like I'm wearing a Sumo Fatsuit in that Grin

Reluctantadult · 22/08/2022 22:03

I normally have plug in oil radiator right by me, hot water bottle, roll neck wollen poncho I got off vinted, long wool socks, slippers, fingerless gloves, and if it's really awful I put the wood burner on.

Reluctantadult · 22/08/2022 22:03

Oh and merino wool base layers.

fannyfan · 22/08/2022 22:04

Put the multifuel stove on. Or electric throws.
