We had DD's debs last night. She went with a group of friends, so one of the Mammies invited us in for food and drinks and to take photos etc. We've been having heatwave weather all week, but it was almost too hot. The girls had got their make up done professionally and they were afraid it would melt off their faces! I had to step into the shade when we were waving them off on the bus - I was wearing a sun dress and it felt like my back was burning. Anyway, I went back to my neighbour's house after they headed off and we had wine until around 10 or 10.30. DD only got home around 5 this morning and didn't say much when she got in the door but she did say it was a fun night. One of my neighbours kindly collected the girls at 5 when they were dropped back to our town, so I didn't have to get dressed and venture out at that hour. There was a photo booth at the venue and props (assorted hats - a jester hat, an Aussie hat with corks, a French beret, a sailor's hat, a turkey hat etc.). The venue posted some photos, so I had fun looking through all the photos as I had my morning coffee.

Anyway, it was a spendy day because I picked up some wine and cakes for my neighbour, to thank her for hosting. And I picked up some bottles of Blue Lagoon for DD so she could have a drink before she left.

Planning a quiet day today. I'm going to pick up some lunch ingredients and do some laundry. That's about all I've planned. Dinner might be a take away because I'm not sure I'm up to cooking between the heat and the hangover.

Have a good weekend everyone.

lifelongfrugaleer · 13/08/2022 12:33

Sounds like a wonderful evening tayto

chop and freeze the onions wolf, sweet corn also can be blanched and frozen,

cooked for the stables oven on for ages

Wolfcub · 13/08/2022 17:19

£99 new big winter coat in the sale absolute necessity for dog walking and a combination of rugby sidelines and freezing train platforms. The last one had an irreparable 8 inch rip in the fabric and sadly had to go in the bin. Saved £100 on list price by buying clearance and not last winter's design but the winter before

Decafflatteplease · 13/08/2022 18:38

Hi all.

Fed up of the heat here. Feel like I shouldn't complain as it will be freezing soon but seriously it's too hot.

We've been spending every afternoon in the pool, really glad we went for it with the gym membership! Disabled dc is sleeping better due to hydrotherapy. Asleep by 10 which is amazing so I get a bit of an evening in between wake-ups.

wolf can I have the fritter recipe we have loads courgettes in our veg patch need eating up.

Hope all ok will go read through the thread now

Wolfcub · 13/08/2022 18:57

https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/sweetcornfritterss_46558/amp. This recipe decaffe but with 250g sweetcorn and about 80 of grated courgette.

I had two with fried eggs and sriracha for breakfast and have frozen the rest

Decafflatteplease · 13/08/2022 18:58

Thanks wolf sounds good live a bit of siracha!

Also, NSD! Free parking at gym 🙂

Fearofawelshplanet · 13/08/2022 21:06

LuxembourglivinginDenmark · 13/08/2022 21:12

Sounds like a amazing evening tayto

We found a wasp hive in the shed so need to get in touch with the council on Monday so they can get someone out to remove it

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/08/2022 06:30

Day out helping with horses today and will be a couple of ££ donations

can’t seem to go To a supermarket without spending £50 so I’m not going to this week at all ~ except to restock stables stuff

ememem84 · 14/08/2022 07:21

Dsis has said I can have her “spare” gym membership. She gets a friends and family discount. So yay! That’ll mean it’s £32 a month for me instead of £50. It’s a different gym. And has a pool. So actually can do more. Yay.

soent most of yesterday either on the beach or indoors.

wolf - Bhaji burgers are super easy and use lots of onions. I gave up my vegetable box a while ago because of similar issues! And cost too in fairness.

Garden tidy up today. Possibly purchasing some compost if I've time, otherwise it'll be a NSD.

minesalargered · 14/08/2022 08:19

I've also managed to increase how much we are in credit with our utility company by £80 this last month. We are fortunate enough to be on a fixed tariff until October 2023 though too.

minesalargered · 14/08/2022 08:21

Oh and DSIL has given us some beetroot so it's beetroot burgers for tea tonight rather than bhaji burgers!

Have a great day all!

Decafflatteplease · 14/08/2022 08:41

Another one here whose given up the veg box , so many onions!!

mines have you ever made beetroot brownies they are lovely, really rich and don't taste of beetroot!

Ocado coming this morning then I need to pop to Lidl to get a few bits I forgot to add / are missing. Also it's Asia week at Lidl and we really likes it last time so stocking up!

Swimming again this afternoon 😂

Have a lovely Sunday all!

Taytocrisps · 14/08/2022 08:53

Morning everyone. Another lovely day here. I need to shower in a minute and get my washing out on the clothesline.

I've signed up for a walk at a popular walking spot with my local Meet up group and then we're going for coffee afterwards. Should be nice and it's a hilly place so hopefully it will be a little cooler there.

I need to give my car a wash and hoover at some stage today because it's booked in for a service this week.

Wolf the coat sounds like a good investment. Annoying about the veg. box.

em that's brilliant about your sister's gym membership offer. Especially the pool bit.

Fear that sounds like a lovely day out.

minesalargered · 14/08/2022 09:04

decaf - oh, I'll get DD to make the brownie as she's at home a lot this next week.

Same here re Asia week! Stocked up already. Things like wasabi and miso paste, chilli sauce etc and make such a difference to dishes and we very rarely eat out at all so it's cost effective to buy.

Decafflatteplease · 14/08/2022 09:08

I'm hoping to get the mini ribs, mochi icecream (teens request) gyoza, mango lassi. Also last time the had this frozen soup thing it was noodles chicken and veg and you added water to it. We bulked it out with sweetcorn, more noodles and the gyoza and it was amazing and teens have requested it again so 🤞

minesalargered · 14/08/2022 09:12

Do you have the Lidl Plus app? I've downloaded it just yesterday. Some coupons and money off vouchers if you spend certain amounts each month, up to £10 if you spend £200.

Wolfcub · 14/08/2022 10:18

Ragu cooked on the stove and then left to simmer in the slow cooker so we don't all boil to death. Surprise ingredient is courgette (thanks veg box) and I've put in all the sad cherry toms too. Not traditional but needs must

Decafflatteplease · 14/08/2022 12:07

Yes I have the Lidl app thanks mines you actually get up to £12 a month back as you get £2 when you hit £100 and £10 at £200 so £12 altogether. It's only calendar month to calendar month so if you downloaded it yesterday you only have until the end of August to get rewards it's not 30 days iyswim

wolf I always put courgettes in Bolognese 🤔

Despite the fact it's 29 degrees we are having an easy roast dinner. Everyone eats this so I'm just cooking one meal tonight woohoo! Got the chicken in the slow cooker then will put frozen roasties in the air fryer when we back from swimming and have a ready chopped bag of veg to put in microwave so really easy and no oven on so nice and cool.

ememem84 · 14/08/2022 14:35

£119 Waitrose. It was more but had an £18 off over £120 spend voucher.

stocked up on things for the freezer.

made banana bread today with squishy nanas.

sea swim before breakfast. Kids are exhausted.

re the gym I’m going to get ds a swim membership so we can go as I’ll have to pay for him otherwise once he’s 5.

OP posts:
lifelongfrugaleer · 14/08/2022 16:12

That gym membership is great value, I’m really missing mine

Decafflatteplease · 14/08/2022 16:33

Great news about the gym em. we pay around £400 for a 6 month pass and that's for 6 of us. we could pay monthly but that works out more expensive

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/08/2022 18:48

To join the decent gym here it with a pool is £50 per month. I’m not motivated enough to pay that
nsd today well except £10 donations so lsd

Wolfcub · 14/08/2022 19:34

I hear you Life. I've temporarily given up Pilates, one because it's costing too much and two because I have got way too much on at the moment
