I've started buying loo roll, hand soap, teabags and porridge oats in bulk. Nice knowing we won't run out for a while. Any ideas or current deals welcome- I have Prime but not Costco membership

Thanks @Cookerhood.

WGAC is awful. Just crumbles. I can't imagine why people would order it more than once. We had it once in lockdown. Tiboo was much better.

Cookerhood · 30/01/2022 21:41

But not cheap.

SeeminglyOblivious · 30/01/2022 21:54

Only toilet roll.

I'm shocked at some prices people consider good value on here though!

We buy 3 x 18 packs at Farm foods for £12. Works out at less than 25p a roll and its decent, not cheap scratchy stuff.

WGAC Works for us. We go through three big boxes of bamboo loo roll a year which cost £120.
That's £2.30 a week.

I would easily spend £2.30 a week buying the cheap stuff from Lidl.

We buy lentils, chickpeas, beans etc in bulk because we use a lot of them and it works out cheaper. Buy them in asian supermarkets. Also buy our spices and bags of rice from them.

We buy Nicky loo roll from Home Bargains. It is good quality but cheap. We buy 32 rolls for just over £6. Me and DH get through 2 rolls a week so great value.

I never really understand why people buy those ridiculous 2 or even 4 packs of loo rolls. Works out so expensive and they must be foreever buying loo roll

Costco buy loads in bulk not always the cheapest but I find the quality better. I’m bad at budgeting for shopping and stuff. I’m keeping a money diary this month and all my receipts and not going over £600.00 is my target (2 adults one teenager).

I tend to bulk but most cupboard items when on offer so

Tins
Azera - don't ever pay full price for that

I tend to bulk buy from various supermarkets if I know that a particular item is cheaper there. An unlikely example would be Waitrose own baked beans- 4 tins for £1.40 and Azera £2.50 so will buy 8 and 4 respectively.

Then Asda had taco boxes £3 for £3.50 so got those. It's great for bulking out an online shop instead of buying things you don't need.

Hubby is great for Amazon stuff so we get a lot of household stuff from there. The detttol wipes are really good value, and they're biodegradable.

I'm being strategic due to storage space and budget.
I so try bulk buy bathroom items.
Lately also dog food as had issues locally getting the one brand wet food he likes.
I'm trying to bulk buy a years worth of
Pasta/ rice/oils, tinned tomatoes, paasatta and puree before July 1st.
Coffee keeps going up so temped stock pile Coffee and sugar.
Oils are already rationed but there's talk of extending buying minimums other things we had this during 2020 it was nightmare as family of 6 as every shop looks like we hoarders.

I don't always have access to car so I do 1 big monthly shop cereal/ soft drinks and tinned.

I only buy branded items on offer and usually buy a few

I try to buy bread and meat reduced and freeze.

I want to try and stocktaking cleaning and bathroom again befire winter as with energy going up October 40% mot nov dec xmas and jan/ feb low paid months it will help lower my monthly bill during winter and take pressure off.

Yes but I do check the price per KG or ML etc....last week in Asda....the tinned tuna was cheaper if bought small separate cans and not the multi pack of 4 cans etc....same with the sugar....cheaper to buy 2 x 1kg and not the 2kg bag....
poundland did a good toilet roll..quilted but its now gone up to £2.50 for 9 rolls. was £2 for years....got same tonight in aldi for £1,89...

earsup · 11/05/2022 23:06

Slightly off topic...am doing an online food shop now for a relative in Barcelona...using Dia...sort of Asda....shocked at the prices...the only thing cheaper over there, looking at my basket, is bleach, fly spray and some tomatoes...!!...most things are about double uk price...some even treble....!!
