Morning everyone. It's raining cats and dogs here. I've a hair appointment at 2 so I'm hoping the rain has eased a bit by then. I need to get to a supermarket at some stage but I might leave it until tomorrow. DCats are snoozing together on the armchair. They're very cute when they're not fighting and snarling at each other.
I don't have much news. It's been crazy busy at work so it feels like I've been just working and sleeping. I'm looking forward to a quiet weekend. Just housework and TV/reading.
Two weeks to go until my holiday. I'm off to west Cork. Looking forward to it although I hope the weather picks up before then. I'm going to stock up on a few books before I go.
north I'm not sure if I've congratulated you on your promotion (sometimes I read but I'm too busy to post). Anyway, I'm delighted for you. Best of luck to you with the course. When does it start?
Gen very weird to have the fridge in the bathroom
. Apart from the hygiene aspect, what happens if you need milk for your coffee and someone is sitting on the loo?
Camden sounds like you'd a good day out in London - and relatively inexpensive too.
Mrs I can't believe MumBob threw out half the dinner in favour of chips. I mean, if they fancied chips for a change, fair enough, but they could have told you in advance so you wouldn't have gone to all that effort. Your DH could have just cooked the gammon and the veg. wouldn't have gone to waste. Same with your FIL throwing out the baked potato Camden.
Meadow sorry to hear about your finger. Hope it's starting to heal. Enjoy the break and the wedding.
Sing good luck with the job application
Unescorted can't believe you spent so long cleaning and just got a small area cleared. I can only imagine how long it will take you to do the rest of the house. A cleaner is definitely a good idea going forward, assuming you/your parents can afford it. Maybe your brother is just overwhelmed and can't cope with it all on top of work.
Wolf I'm so sorry your DS is so careless. You devote so much time, work and money to making a nice home.
martha how old are your DC? DD is 16 so she's quite self-sufficient in lots of ways. It makes life a lot easier all around. I still remember how much easier life became when she got old enough to shower herself and wash her own hair etc. And now she can wash her own clothes when I remind her and empty the dishwasher and hoover and cook simple meals. Sometimes I feel guilty that she has to do more chores around the house than the average teenager. I work full-time so we've no choice really. She has to pull her weight, especially during the summer holidays when she has three months off school. But I tell myself it will stand to her when she moves out into her own place. Sometimes I feel wistful when I remember the toddler/small child years - visits to Santa, day trips to the beach, the park or the zoo. The excitement of it all! Or just simple things like a visit to the library, reading her books in bed, making jigsaws together or playing shop. Or watching her playing with her toy ducks and fish at bath time. She may be too old for all of those things but I'll always have the memories and photos. And maybe I'll get to do those things all over again if I have grandchildren in the future. Anyway, I find that they need you less for physical care as they grow older but they need you more for emotional support - issues with friends, exam stress etc. Also, I enjoy the adult chats with her - everything from Covid to Trump.
life fingers crossed all goes ahead this time
Happier the childcare costs are tough. Hope you find someone. How old are your DC now?
