I have a kenwood blender attached to my food processor. Could you borrow one for a bit

I hope this works too. Lots of emails this morning to try and secure it

Wolf I would also be tempted not to redecorate ds room. He won’t care for it.

Picked up my Sainsbury’s shop loads of subs so about £64 that’s £140 on food this week sheesh

Taytocrisps · 07/08/2021 11:20

Morning everyone. It's raining cats and dogs here. I've a hair appointment at 2 so I'm hoping the rain has eased a bit by then. I need to get to a supermarket at some stage but I might leave it until tomorrow. DCats are snoozing together on the armchair. They're very cute when they're not fighting and snarling at each other.

I don't have much news. It's been crazy busy at work so it feels like I've been just working and sleeping. I'm looking forward to a quiet weekend. Just housework and TV/reading.

Two weeks to go until my holiday. I'm off to west Cork. Looking forward to it although I hope the weather picks up before then. I'm going to stock up on a few books before I go.

north I'm not sure if I've congratulated you on your promotion (sometimes I read but I'm too busy to post). Anyway, I'm delighted for you. Best of luck to you with the course. When does it start?

Gen very weird to have the fridge in the bathroom Shock. Apart from the hygiene aspect, what happens if you need milk for your coffee and someone is sitting on the loo?

Camden sounds like you'd a good day out in London - and relatively inexpensive too.

Mrs I can't believe MumBob threw out half the dinner in favour of chips. I mean, if they fancied chips for a change, fair enough, but they could have told you in advance so you wouldn't have gone to all that effort. Your DH could have just cooked the gammon and the veg. wouldn't have gone to waste. Same with your FIL throwing out the baked potato Camden.

Meadow sorry to hear about your finger. Hope it's starting to heal. Enjoy the break and the wedding.

Sing good luck with the job application

Unescorted can't believe you spent so long cleaning and just got a small area cleared. I can only imagine how long it will take you to do the rest of the house. A cleaner is definitely a good idea going forward, assuming you/your parents can afford it. Maybe your brother is just overwhelmed and can't cope with it all on top of work.

Wolf I'm so sorry your DS is so careless. You devote so much time, work and money to making a nice home.

martha how old are your DC? DD is 16 so she's quite self-sufficient in lots of ways. It makes life a lot easier all around. I still remember how much easier life became when she got old enough to shower herself and wash her own hair etc. And now she can wash her own clothes when I remind her and empty the dishwasher and hoover and cook simple meals. Sometimes I feel guilty that she has to do more chores around the house than the average teenager. I work full-time so we've no choice really. She has to pull her weight, especially during the summer holidays when she has three months off school. But I tell myself it will stand to her when she moves out into her own place. Sometimes I feel wistful when I remember the toddler/small child years - visits to Santa, day trips to the beach, the park or the zoo. The excitement of it all! Or just simple things like a visit to the library, reading her books in bed, making jigsaws together or playing shop. Or watching her playing with her toy ducks and fish at bath time. She may be too old for all of those things but I'll always have the memories and photos. And maybe I'll get to do those things all over again if I have grandchildren in the future. Anyway, I find that they need you less for physical care as they grow older but they need you more for emotional support - issues with friends, exam stress etc. Also, I enjoy the adult chats with her - everything from Covid to Trump.

life fingers crossed all goes ahead this time

Happier the childcare costs are tough. Hope you find someone. How old are your DC now?

Taytocrisps · 07/08/2021 11:26

Oh, I forgot to say that Ex met his solicitor on Thursday to sign the separation agreement. But I haven't heard from him since so I don't know if he did sign it. Arrrghhhh! I was tempted to phone him and ask but I resisted.

Meanwhile, my mortgage approval ran out mid-July so I should probably get on to the bank about filling out yet another application form. I've been approved twice now. Do you think they'll tell me I don't need to re-apply. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part?

CamdenLurker · 07/08/2021 11:56

Unescorted- dd had one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Breville-Personal-Blender-50Hz-White-plastic/dp/B00DGLUW4E/ref=ascdff_B00DGLUW4E/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=218884797580&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8966446013743281669&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006561&hvtargid=pla-387395321923&psc=1&th=1&psc=1 sorry for the long link! Cheap but it worked well and you get a spare bottle too.

Martha - I'm at the same stage in parenthood as you, my youngest are 14 & 16 and I feel pretty much the same. I really struggled when the youngest left primary for secondary school, both ds1 and ds2 can drive and are completely independent.

Good luck life - fingers crossed everything goes smoothly.

Terrible weather here today, yet dh is in the garden, I'm happy to stay indoors.

Wolfcub · 07/08/2021 12:12

All the bits of the room I can get at (the rest has furniture stacked in it waiting for window men) is filled and primed. Having to do it around puppy naps so hoping for a nap again in about an hour so I can go and whack some emulsion on.

Wolfcub · 07/08/2021 12:15

Will catch up later. Unescorted I have one on my food processor as well. I used to have a separate one but it wasn't very good - morphs Richards I think it was

lightand · 07/08/2021 12:32

Am joining if that is ok?

I am not the same age as lots on here. For reasons I wont go into, our income has gone right down, so DH and I need to watch the pennies more.

Have started with our energy bill, which is way above UK average. DH bought a gizmo that measures energy consumption of each appiance.
Our large freezer has a faulty lid, so we are measuring energy consumption over a day, to see if it might be better to replace it, sooner rather than later.

Not sure we are going to have the stomach to tackle all household bills, but may be best if we do.

I have always been quite frugal on food bills. Now am being on clothes[relatively simple and painless for me to do].
But if household bills[elec, heating oil, sky, phone etc[ are not tackled too, I am a bit wasting my time.

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/08/2021 12:44

Welcome light we don’t care about how old you are. We are all mixed ages and it really does not matter a fig

ememem84 · 07/08/2021 13:28

light welcome. Personally I’d replace the freezer.

£40 riding.

£195 very via top cash back on beats headphones for dhs birthday present.

marthasmum · 07/08/2021 13:37

light welcome, I've not been on here that long but it's very friendly. When I replaced my freezer I found it really helpful to look at which..though I did get a little obsessed wi comparisons. Like we were saying on here recently, big purchases can be anxiety inducing. You could join which for free for a month - not sure if that's an option, but I felt it really helped me get my money's worth and think of things I wouldn't have considered otherwise

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/08/2021 15:22

Definitely replace the freezer. It’s not just energy consumption it’s the risk of ruined food

Wolfcub · 07/08/2021 16:23

Welcome Light. Agree with Life replace the freezer. You could easily lose £100s in food

£79 b&q. 2.9 out of four walls painted. 2 out of three skirting boards, one window sill, one curtain baton and one door frame primed. I'm totally knackered and my back is killing. I also should have trusted dulux that their new one coat paint is one coat as, when I've finished, I'll have enough paint left to do another two rooms the same size and. I thing else that I want to paint HMS battleship grey.

lightand · 07/08/2021 16:59

Thanks for all the lovely warm welcomes! I was not expecting that.

Our relatively large chest freezer, had the two utility room units built around it! At the time[30 years ago] we thought we would deal with that problem if and when we came to it. Well, we have come to it!

We did used to be a which member a while back, but stopped it as we bought less things. I didnt know they did free membership for a month. Could be worth considering.

maddenlightfoot · 07/08/2021 17:08

Hi everyone... I've dipped in and out in the past but haven't been around in quite a while. However I was pleasantly surprised to see that I recognise most names on her, with a few new ones! so hoping I can come back in?

Last time I was here we were moving house, or had just moved. We moved in February so have now been in our new house for over 6 months. I still pinch myself every day at how utterly amazing it is! It's a lovely house and appears to be stress free atm (our old Victorian terrace presented a new issue virtually every other day), lots more space and a lovely neighbourhood.

It's taken a while for pre- and post-move spending to settle down. Council tax wasn't sorted for ages and we then had to pay a huge bill (CT has pretty much doubled 😨, along with our mortgage!)

I think the last time I was here I was just starting with YNAB and I remember commenting on how rich I felt. Anyway, I gave up after the trial as it gave me a false sense of richness. I think the best way for me to be frugal is to assume I haven't got money and that savings pots are a no-go but because in YNAB every £ has a job, I kept feeling like I had money to spend and so did spend!

I've been reading another thread today about income/expenditure. The PPs figures aren't that wildly different to ours and they are feeling the pinch, just like we are. The thread made me miss you guys over here. I think I need to be accountable again!

Unescorted · 07/08/2021 19:22

Camden that was the one I got in the end.

Light welcome. We are a mixed bag here and all have different reasons for being here.

Madden lovely to see you back. Having everything in tip top condition is fabulous. Enjoy the house.

Wolf you are a superstar. I am not surprised you are knackered.

daintydaisies · 07/08/2021 20:17

Welcome back @maddenlightfoot 😊

£18 on lunch + coffee today and was totally worth it. Such good coffee!
Chose our options for our new build today which was terrifying but also exciting

HumbugWhale · 07/08/2021 20:18

Welcome light, I should replace the freezer if the lid is faulty.

Long day, lots of running about outside with the dcs. I am very tired, more tired than them! Nsd which is good.

Wolfcub · 07/08/2021 20:34

Good to see you back Madden

Happierwithouthim · 07/08/2021 20:45

Tayto I also got my hair done this afternoon and am going to west cork on my hols! Hope your ex signed. You will have to reapply but it shouldn't be too much hassle because nothings changed financially for you. I needed my separation agreement in place for my mortgage.

Spent €58 in homestore & more on baskets for my food presses. Lots of them aren't easily accessible so baskets will make them more user friendly. And got command strips too

€11.60 on snakes & ladders and my lunch in Aldi today.

€65 on my hair, ten weeks since last time. Must start putting that money away weekly on my YNAB

Wolfcub · 07/08/2021 20:48

Tayto fingers crossed that he signed

Mrsmadevans · 07/08/2021 20:57
