I was asleep by 8 last night 😳😳😳 had about 11 hours total, much needed!

We have kept presents for others really minimal this year. Not that we buy for many anyway but we’ve been upfront about it and everyone understands - we are on UC now and due to a delay from DH’s employer our first payment was half what it should be, and the free prescriptions, free school meals etc won’t kick in until January.

Got chocolates for tap teacher (split with a friend, both our boys did the exam together), made a card and bought chocolates for the ladies at playgroup (they were surprised and loved them!) and made a card for our family support worker which made her laugh a lot (Dory is her nickname). :o

Really need to put aside a time to sort through the presents not to mention wrap stuff! Definitely a few things that still need buying (socks and pyjamas for the big two for sure - they are yearly presents anyway but they both definitely need some anyway).

I voted red. We were thought of as a marginal seat but blue still got more votes than the other three put together.

Hope you find an oven life or is it anything that buying spare parts would sort for a while? A lot of January sales seem to start before Christmas these days.

Lap those are beautiful presents

Sea enjoy the snowman

Unescorted looks like it will be soon and it's moving on to More4 I think

Life do you have a sonic direct or a euronics near you? They often beat others by a good chunk of money. Bellings always used to have an excellent rep in the 70s/80s my mother still talks about her baby belling but I've no direct experience

SNOOOOOOOWWWWWWW!!!!!

ememem84 · 14/12/2019 11:01

Cleaned kitchen floor today - ds helped me brush it.

Sun is out. Yay!

Laundry is on. Dd is napping. Ds is playing trains with dh.

I need to start wrapping presents but difficult to do with ds around.

Pjs and socks are a staple here for presents. Dm always buys them for us. And slippers. She’s asked what she can get me for Christmas. The only thing I “need” or will need is a new phone. Mine is on the blink. I’m going to wait until I get back to work to buy it but have asked for a voucher for the store so I can put it towards new phone. She says no. Because she doesn’t like vouchers. So I just said to leave it at the socks pjs and slippers.

Friends round for dinner tonight. We’re getting a take away because it’s easier.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 14/12/2019 11:24

Unescorted, you're so lucky!

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/12/2019 13:01

£124 Aldi but won't be back until January and lots of meat.
£21 Iceland. £1000 for oven when I press the buttons

ememem84 · 14/12/2019 14:13

Fuuuuuuuck.

Just took the passenger wing mirror off of our car. Dh not happy. I’ve pointed out that I’m not exactly happy either. This might be expensive.

Wolfcub · 14/12/2019 16:05

Yikes Em, these things happen will you go with insurance repair or pay to have it fixed

Ouch Life but you'll get the use out of it so it's good value

£60 booths mostly presents and a few bits to take to friends on Boxing Day

£23 Betty's mostly presents

Unescorted we've had a lot of hail but no snow

OP posts:
SnugglySnerd · 14/12/2019 16:05

Oh no, Em. Is it worth an insurance claim?

V envious of your snow Unescorted!

We have made Christmas cards for the gps today. They don't look exactly like Pinterest but they are quite good.

ememem84 · 14/12/2019 16:33

Probably pay for it. It’ll cost as we’ll need a whole new mirror and it’ll need to be resprayed. So annoyed at myself.

I’ve done a quick tidy up and clean. And written Christmas cards.

I’ve told dh he’s to do his family here. I have enough to do. They probably won’t get any presents from us....because he won’t think to do it.

Bets on him suggesting Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve...?!

ememem84 · 14/12/2019 16:34

life I’d buy the oven. It’s not like you’ll just use it for storage!

Wolfcub · 14/12/2019 16:45

Last present ordered on line. Have been really struggling with last present for my friend Notonthehighstreet to the rescue

Unescorted · 14/12/2019 16:53

Well that has been a busy day.... Amazing how much gets done when you ignore internet politics.

Beer brew done - partial mash IPA
chicken pasties - even did the pastry
2 loaves of bread - Japanese Tangzhong method
Biscotti - hazelnut & orange v. nice
4 loads of washing
3 dishwasher loads
cooker cleaned
HITT....

I am now going to research places to live in Scotland...

em have you tried a 2nd hand parts place for the mirror. Weirdly they survive intact when the rest of the car get written off. There are quite a few internet wreckers yards who will courier it out. You just have to get someone to fit it. Saves me a fortune -The roads are narrow and the walls unforgiving around here.

snuggly the snow didn't last long. But there is more due tonight.

ememem84 · 14/12/2019 16:58

unescorted good shout. I’ll look into it.

annoyingly dh just bought new cover and light cover for the wingmirror

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/12/2019 17:09

Oh no. Had it come right off or just bent back. They are designed to clip back in even if the wrong way around. Iykwim. If the glass is broken a scrapyard might be able to help if there is one on the island

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/12/2019 17:10

I love booths. Are you near one wolf? Our nearest is Ripon or the lakes. DH won't let me go just to get the Christmas book.

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/12/2019 17:12

I see unescorted beat me to it re the salvage yards

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/12/2019 17:14

I will get the oven. I use mine every day sometimes twice a day. Need to log into the desk top for best cash back site for ao

Unescorted · 14/12/2019 17:22

Booths is amazing - our nearest is Preston, but I am quite often in Kendal and Penrith. The election has scuppered my book buying trip - no external meetings.

life a decent oven is a thing of joy. I have been wanting ours to break for years so I can get a less uneven one. Unfortunately it keeps trundling along.

ememem84 · 14/12/2019 17:29

I swerved towards the hedge to avoid a “something” in the road and took out the mirror on a low branch I think.

Mirrors is completely smashed. The casing is gone. Wires are a bit smushy.

I’ll look into salvage yards. I have no idea if we have one here. Possibly not but I might be able to get something on ebay.

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/12/2019 17:35

There is one in Penrith?!. We usually go to Keswick as part of a day out but have to pass Penrith to get there.

My oven isn't really broken broken. One grill element is broken and the other takes ages plus the fan oven is hotter on the right than the left.
I have savings. I love cooking/baking. Going to go for the belling cookcentre 90. The £100 cashback will pay for fitting.

Wolfcub · 14/12/2019 17:56

Life I have to travel an hour to get to one. When I worked on unescorted's side of the hill there was one in spitting distance of the office so I used to go most lunchtimes (dangerous).

Unescorted if you move to Scotland look for a street of houses as I'm coming too. I wish I was not so many generations removed from my Irish ancestry otherwise I'd be applying for a passport

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 14/12/2019 18:13

I could get an Irish passport but I can't afford it. Never will be able to now as we're likely to just get even more poor.

ChristmasSeacow · 14/12/2019 18:53

I’m eligible for an Irish passport and I need to look into it. My grandad (Irish) changed his name when he immigrated to the Uk though so I don’t know if that will complicate matters. Also not sure whether he did it officially or just started using an anglicised version of his very Irish surname. I think there are people who will help with the tracing of paperwork part?

Unescorted that was a long list indeed! The biscotti sound nice - how well do they keep? I don’t think I’ve ever run the dishwasher 3 times in one day! (I’m weird though and still hand wash quite a lot of stuff Hmm).

Bummer about the car Em

We put up the new lights outside and they look lovely. They are a warm pinky-yellow and the children are enchanted. I also paid £80 yesterday to get a local licensed scrap man to take away all the bathroom waste that was on my drive (we were originally going to have the main bathroom done before Christmas and save by just getting one skip for both, but as it hasn’t happened yet I couldn’t bear having it all there over Christmas). I am waiting to see how long it takes DH to notice that the huge pile of rubble and bathroom fittings that were blocking the garage has gone. Place your bets.

Anyway, no rubble and naice lights. I can hold my head up with the neighbours again Grin.

The Snowman was really good. It was in a local church and they were selling drinks, cakes, popcorn... there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere, we were relatively early and got good seats, the DC behaved beautifully and were rapt. The brass band was brilliant. Young boy sang ‘walking in the air’ pretty well and got a big cheer. Best £30 I’ve spent in ages. DS really surprised me though. He exclaimed ‘it’s a church’ and then said ‘I like the church’ a few times. He NEVER says he likes something without prompting. And he wanted to stay afterwards to look around and cried when we left, saying he wanted to go back to the church. It was the oddest thing... I don’t think we’ve ever taken him to a church so I was surprised he even knew that’s what it was, and he seemed to really like being there. Hmmm.

Made home made meatballs and tomato and pepper sauce for tonight, to have with pasta, loads of cheese and the strictly final. Dilemma: do kids’ bedtime with DH and watch it with an hour’s delay, so too late to vote, or leave DH to do it alone (bit mean?) but then be able to vote?

I’ll probably do bedtime.

Making cards and doing some wrapping tonight.

ChristmasSeacow · 14/12/2019 19:00

Life you won’t regret the oven 👍🏻
