We are a house of 5 people so will end up running out of things.

SunnyLikeThursday · 17/05/2018 14:57

That's wonderful Cag. Let me know if I can help with ideas and whatnot.

Fish I've been here four years and I don't think I've ever had an NSD. I should try harder really.

I went and cried all over a child psychologist today. I have a very clean face now.

ememem84 · 17/05/2018 15:37

Making mac n cheese with bacon and salad later. Dh’s friend is coming over. Need to buy bacon and pre grated cheese (I know I know...)

ememem84 · 17/05/2018 15:37

Also have checked in with Dm. Ds is fine.

ChristmasSeacow · 17/05/2018 16:24

Oh Sunny are you okay? I know you worry about your DS... I heartily sympathise with that Sad.

You know what Cag, that’s a thought... I might be able to borrow one off a friend just to try, let me have a think!

I’ve done hardly anything on my to-do list so off to make amends before catching up properly.

WreckTangled · 17/05/2018 16:45

Nsd.

QuiteCleanBandit · 17/05/2018 17:04

With regard to top up shops and running out of thongs .
I tend to let it happen and we do without, particularly nice fruit and snack stuff .Not bread or milk obvs
Bread and milk can be frozen or get a milkman to deliver ,less plastic but also its a few p more that can save you £ if you dont then spend £36.78 on crap you dont need.
My lot would hoover the cupboards out -now once its gone its gone .
I dont replace -if they eat all the lunch stuff then tough banana .
This has changed everything for me Smile

MrsOH2004 · 17/05/2018 17:06

Ds2's trousers fit but only with a belt, and he doesn't want to wear a green belt with black trousers, I said no one will notice once his shirt is tucked in, he's 12, nearly 5/7 and nearly in size 10 mens shoes, he needs to stop growing.

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/05/2018 17:13

I need to be tougher on to ups. Did another tonight as I walk past a mini Sainsbury's. £6 again.
I'm going to plan next week and shop the weekend then maybe Wednesday or Thursday. That will be enough

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/05/2018 17:22

Dh was 6/3 at 14 mrs

I let things run out too.

SunnyLikeThursday · 17/05/2018 17:30

Thanks Christmas. I seem to have reached the stage where my ds is considered to be fine and I am meant to let go, and it turns out that is hard. It's good that he is fine.

WreckTangled · 17/05/2018 17:35

We top up on milk and fruit but that's it. Otherwise once it's gone it's gone, and by today usually everything has gone Grin

MrsOH2004 · 17/05/2018 17:50

Crikey Fluffy Grin

The rate ds is growing he could be that size!

LonelyOversharer · 17/05/2018 18:00

mrsOH 6 of us here, I feel your pain with food shops and top ups. There is just never enough in the house. Today was £42 in aldi, £10 of that was dog food. But have stocked up on all the aldi staples, and walked past the isles of doom.

£36 on printer cartridges, we let them run out weeks ago, but I needed to print courier labels.

£14 ebay postage, going at 0850 after school drop off is perfect, as it's been no queue both times. My post office is particularly fab though. Will transfer from paypal.

Word to the wise em (I'm sure someone will have said), but interchange the bunny's so they wear evenly. Dd2 has still not quite forgiven me for Pearl and Pearl. Two identical ikea cats, that we could tell the difference between. So then I had two of the blighters not to loose!

Wolfcub · 17/05/2018 18:04

Sausage tray bake in the oven with lots of odds and ends of veg. Unfortunately I meant through 9 mouldy tomatoes before I found some not-fluffy ones.
£5 on bits for ds’s school party tomorrow. I probably could have got cheaper but I got my parents to do the shopping! I would have gone to Lidl!
3 for ds’s activity

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/05/2018 18:18

You can freeze tomatoes whole and use them in sauces etc.

QuiteCleanBandit · 17/05/2018 18:26

Oh FFs !
I dont run out of thongsBlush
Things!
Supermarkets and marketing make us think we need stuff on a constant supply but we dont.

MeadowHay · 17/05/2018 18:48

I can't remember who asked, but my last day of work before I go on mat leave is next Friday. And I have next Wed booked off and one further day to book off to use up all my annual leave before I go. Actually the first three weeks of my leave are annual leave too. I cannot wait, I am so exhausted with work, and I only work a desk job and don't have a commute!

I have discovered a new snack that I like - Yushoi baked pea snacks. Not amazing for fat and salt but I am ignoring all of that at the moment because I am just trying to watch my sugar intake a bit really. I can't remember whether I said ages ago but when I had the GTT, whilst I didn't score high enough for GD I was like 0.3 under the cut off or something which gave me a right shock so the huge amount of cake and chocolate I was eating etc had to stop!

Seacow Don't worry about the baby stuff, I'm surprised you can even remember with all you've got going on at the moment! It's not important just look after yourself Brew Flowers

We are like bandit and do run out of stuff sometimes if I'm not organised enough with our shops, we try to keep top-up shops to a bare minimum of bread and milk and maybe one or two other things that are on offer but that's it. It helps that I'm knackered and struggle to carry stuff now too so I can't really do them and DH is usually on his way home from uni with a backpack already full of books and things so can't carry much Grin.

Spends today was £2.20 on lunch in my work canteen. Had yummy jacket potato with cheese and salad as have just had a sandwich for dinner as DH is over at a friend's and I never like to cook just for me.

MissingMo · 17/05/2018 18:52

Went to the shops as dsis wasn't in when I called. Bread, Orange juice, potato, tomato and lettuce. £5. Oh and £2 for the niece and nephew. They spent the whole visit doing chores for dsis to earn money so I had to help them out Grin

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/05/2018 18:55

I did wonder quite but there are some questions that you don't ask.....Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/05/2018 19:08

£8.80 prescription for my antibiotics. Last dose today. Woo hoo.

Tomorrow is potatoes, sherry, Tinned tom.

Logged into Tesco clubcard and I have £9 to spend.

SunnyLikeThursday · 17/05/2018 19:08

Lonely I was all ready with two identical bunnies as you say, but ds never believed in soft toys so it was all a total waste of time. He only ever used them as throwing weapons. Funny that.

QuiteCleanBandit · 17/05/2018 19:31

Meadow Im very organised , in fact its my signature trait😎 but my DC would plough through things like they had never seen food before Grin
So for example -cereal would be purchased,2 boxes and then gone in 3 days
In the past I would replace but now its tough .They have to have something else .
I have budget and thats that !

Taytocrisps · 17/05/2018 19:44

Evening. I went out to a cafe for lunch today which is very unusual but an ex-colleague called in unexpectedly. It was lovely to see her and hear all her news. I had quiche with two salads and a cold drink for €9. Unfortunately, there was a very strong taste off the quiche - goats cheese or brie or something. That's what I get for not asking what was in it.

Also spent €2.30 on a big tub of yoghurt for DD's smoothie (Home Ec class).

QuiteCleanBandit · 17/05/2018 19:45

I do find current marketing ploys completely immoral.
Such as weaning us all onto carbs so we all keep eating and therfore buying them.
We dont feel satisfied in the same way as eating protein, fruit and veg as we get that insulin spike ,blood sugar crashes and bingo off you go in search of biscuits.
Im not anti carb just I only eat whole grains etc and minimally.
Its also the "have it now" dont have to miss out on anything pushing which means we dont stop buying.
Im going back to the 1950s with my strict budgeting ,pretending credit doesnt exist and I wont then run out of thongs 😂
