I like those other definitions. I'm in the SSD.
£25 on top up after the dentist.

We started off being super frugal all along, posting deals, spending, money pots. Lots of is still do that in one way or another but over the years more chat and support had come in. This is linked to bring frugal as we've talked each other down from spending many times, been an ear to vent when unable to irl.
We have various back ground and motivations which helps us get perspective on what it is important to spend money on or not.
And we chat, and chat.
No clique, no judgement.

38 in Sainsbury’s flowers and booze for special friends special day, flowers for me because fuck it I deserve them and wine. Bread and breakfast and a yellow sticker pudding

Too right you deserve them Wolf!

I don't think we're going to have a good night. DD2 has been screaming down my ear for the last hour which also woke up ds. Then they both suddenly went back to sleep so goodness knows what all that was about.
DH and I almost had a conversation before that happened! We'll manage it one day. I'll phone him from work or something!

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/05/2018 21:18

We have our best conversations when we are both at work snuggly.

Damm right you deserve them wolf

I can we why this thread comes across as a really diffuse thread. In my mind we all live in the same street so it is like dropping in on mates to have a natter. It is a bit odd to find out that people live in different parts of the country. I can hand on heart say the people on this thread have pulled me through some really dark moments and shared moments of joy.

Lonely the beans and peas you sent have germinated directly in the ground and by my reckoning we are about the same planting timetable. I have optimistically put the caugettes in too.... I might do another couple of seeds at the weekend just in case the first ones have failed. I am going seed hunting at the weekend... My brother has a good stash of weird and wonderful things in his collection. I have my eye on the calvo nero, a sprouting cauliflower and winter and oriental lettuce mixes. He is higher up and really exposed to the wind so if it works there I am sure it will work in yours and mine. I will post you some of my findings .....it would be a shame if they were wasted because they will be too old next year.😉

Sea that sounds a world of pain. With half term is there a reliable teen who could help....if you are there to keep an eye on things they shouldn't need too much experience. Or join a skill swap group.

Loveabaconsandwich · 16/05/2018 21:46

Until almost two years ago, DP and I worked in the same office so we would take lunch together and get our day at work grumbles out in the car on the way Home . I do miss that now!

We talk a lot of random stuff on here. But most life events/daily grind can lead to spending so it helps to chat about random stuff too Smile

How long to go until maternity leave starts meadow?

mammynowanauntyIRL · 16/05/2018 21:52

€60 on cut & colour at hairdressers & a good natter (no charge on that!) plus a plan to go out for dinner in a couple of weeks. She recently got her divorce.

Day 7 of 10000 steps life aiming for 11000 each day for next 7 days. And food is perfect Grin

Cooked quinoa for first time yesterday guys. Had it with bbq salmon/avocado/sweet corn/cucumber as a salad. It was grand but plain, what was I missing? Seasoning or oil?

Payday tomorrow

Unescorted · 16/05/2018 21:58

I have a half bag of quinoa in the cupboard for that very reason.

Wolfcub · 16/05/2018 22:07

Quinoa is something I just can’t cook right. I like it in m&s salad lunches but when I cook it myself it’s meh!

I am glad it isn't just me.

LonelyOversharer · 16/05/2018 22:10

19 riders at the time trial. Lovely sunny evening, it was a good one. We had 2 large costas (one on the way out, one on the way back), so I'm a bit jittery! Taken from our whopping £19 profit, we have £8.60 left to blow!

Spends just £7 something on 5l of petrol for the cement mixer, and £2.20 on yet more milk.

I have had a lovely day actually. Properly productive, and I've been calm all day. After horrible trembly yesterday it's been really nice. You lot help me so much. I can imagine that if you stumbled across our threads on active convos it would read a bit batshit though!

Jury's out on quinoa mammy, I think I like it.

SunnyLikeThursday · 16/05/2018 22:10

I think I'm one of the ones who talks least about money, but it is still all about frugality for me.

We have complicated health problems in my family that I am trying to solve, and if I could do that then I could potentially get back out to work and have a lot of fun.

I'm a long way from that though, and while I'm still stuck at home it helps immensely to have good friends here to just talk through the day with, as I solve the various problems one at a time.

I also find this thread really comes into its own in winter, and especially in the night if a few of us are up. Particularly over the Christmas holidays, which can actually be quite isolating. Those are the moments when the list really makes such a difference.

Taytocrisps · 16/05/2018 22:10

Seacow sorry to hear about your back. You poor thing - sounds like a very debilitating condition! I'm glad you were spared the finger up your bottom. I have visions of you sitting in A&E with your tiara on. Sending you very gentle hugs.

Lonely I was also wondering if you could transfer your cc balance. But I guess if that was an option, you wouldn't be so worried. Since you're so talented at all things crafty, I was wondering if you would consider running some arts and crafts classes for kids. Although I suppose you'd have to pay for materials. And possibly pay for hiring a venue.

Wreck I was listening to a wedding planner on the radio yesterday (mammy it was Franc) and he said that some wedding couples have requested llamas for their wedding!

Wolf sorry to hear about the holiday on top of everything else Sad

Girlie hope DD enjoys her London trip. She'll be home before you know it. Only natural to worry though. I'm already bracing myself for DD's jamboree during the summer - it's for 7 nights. I know all the leaders quite well and she'll be in safe hands but I'll miss her.

I spent €3 on a tiny carton of raspberries for DD's home economics class (they're making smoothies). €3! Shock. I'm not in the habit of buying raspberries - are they always that expensive? I still have to pick up yoghurt.

ememem84 · 16/05/2018 22:11

@mumofboysx2 me neither sometimes. I lose track of the being frugal a lot and mostly just post my spends and my thoughts.

fluffy seems to be a pro. And seems to always search out deals which I can’t use because they’re not available here in the Channel Islands. Booo.

£23 dinner. Beef espatada with mihlo, chips, rice salad. Le yum yum. And a glass of wine.

Home now. Nursery have implied ds can’t go in tomorrow because he has a tummy bug. I don’t think he does. Two loose nappies does not a tummy bug make (in my opinion anyway). But whatever. He’s going to dm’s tomorrow. Unless he does have a bug then either dh or I will take the day. He seems fine in himself dh said so I trust his judgement. Nursery have said they’ve had to send two kids home today though so there is something going around. I figure if we keep ds Home he may avoid it?! Maybe not. But we can see

ememem84 · 16/05/2018 22:14

mammy quinoa is rank. We have some but. I think it needs super flavour. It cannot be the star of its own show. I use it sparingly in salads. Spicy gingery salads. Or citrusy salads.

wreck I wanted an owl to fly into our wedding to deliver the rings. The venue said no. Dh said no. I never got my owl.

CremeEggThief · 16/05/2018 22:23

Lots of love and hugs to everyone going through a difficult week. I don't care if that's unMumsnetty! 💕

Spends yesterday: £32.84 on afternoon tea for me, DS and my mum and £5 bus fare. Today: £8 bus fare; £5 unplanned taxi to go a short distance; £2.25 Greggs latte and doughnut.

QuiteCleanBandit · 16/05/2018 22:23

Totally exhausted -legs feel like lead but that horrible restless feeling .
NSD
Its very random in here but I agrre with love talking about our highs ,lows and pissedoffness really helps.
So much spending is emotionally driven and just talking can keep us on track.
We are also all at different stages of the frugal journey and it may seem odd that we buy things -we got told off for not being frugal enough Grin but its usually planned and considered spending not out of control .
Sorry to hear of your troubles Lonely
Can you prioritise the most expensive CC first?
I snowballed and chucked the most at the card with highest apr and paid just the minimum on the 0%
And cut the cards up
I stuck to paying for food in cash ,so budget X amount per week and stick to it.
Its hard but doable, particularly if you are a reasonable cook and have chooks and a breadmaker .There were some unusual food combos in those days but crikey we looked forward to food shopping day !

Well done for sorting your bills Smile

Unescorted · 16/05/2018 22:26

Lonely you could do an off road tt / sportif.. they are popular around here. Or a points ride... orienteering on a bike. 19 riders on a weekday is good going.

ememem84 · 16/05/2018 22:29

I do feel this is a safe space for me. It’s cosy. Like a blanket.

SunnyLikeThursday · 16/05/2018 22:35

Me too.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 16/05/2018 22:36

I'm enjoying the seed talk, have tried to grow a few things this year so far we have strawberries, rocket, lettuce, broccoli and peppers (in my little pretend green house!) I've also grown marigolds, sweet peas, nasturtiums and giant pansies all from seed. It's a start!

mums I totally get why this thread must be confusing 😁 you have to bear in mind that a lot of us have been on this thread years and 'know' each other really well, we all share our highs and lows and it def helps me stay focused on being frugal as well.

savingin2018welltryingto · 16/05/2018 22:38

Another NSD for me. Life is very tough at the moment, at least I can focus on this.

SunnyLikeThursday · 16/05/2018 23:22

Girlie Yes I suppose so. I've been on here for nearly four years I think.

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/05/2018 06:23

Mammy well done you. I'm getting steps and 2-3 30 minn body pumps a week. Food is 95% there. Go over slightly most days and styling with fibre.

I like the m&s quinua salad but never tried it at home.

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/05/2018 06:47

There’s free Kellogg’s musilli on shopmium. Only from asda. Usually you can buy one of each so that’s 1.5kg of cereal free.

They pay out quick too.
