justanother you both need to buy into YNAB- you sit down together and allocate the money as it comes in. So he gets paid x - y% goes straight to his tax budget line - then you have the conversation Re where the rest goes. And you talk about what you can and can't afford, and where your priorities are. It's the conversations that have made the difference for us. Can you sell any of these fast cars to redeem the loans and pay for groceries? If you are taking out loans to pay his tax bills while there are still expensive cars parked on your drive, you both probably need to have a think Re priorities...
It sounds like you are on the v fortunate position of actually having a fair amount of money coming in, so you can definitely crack this! Good luck!!!

I've had a fairly spendy few days. We fly back from hols tomorrow and then we are back to a diet of lentils from Lidl for the foreseeable to make up for it... currently weighing up whether to shell out for a taxi, or brave the evening rush hour on two commuter trains with kids, pushchair and luggage...

MessySurfaces · 12/04/2018 14:48

justanother reading back that sounded v harsh- sorry! My dad always spent his tax money and then panic and chaos when the bill came. It clearly pushes a button for me!

Silvertap · 14/04/2018 07:22

NSD for me yesterday. Chuffed with that as really wanted a takeaway!

Squirrel26 · 14/04/2018 11:07

I have spent £4 on Costa already today! Right. No spend afternoon.

MsGameandWatching · 14/04/2018 11:11

Can I join? Took my kids on a Big Holiday in February and on arrival home was so depressed at the state of my house that I rushed out for paint and new curtains and rugs to smarten things up - all in my overdraft 😱. I did a weeks food shopping yesterday and need to get some fresh fruit and packed lunch things today and then I don't want to spend till next Friday. Basically I need to only be buying weekly food for a couple of months.

Cantbearsed73 · 14/04/2018 11:25

Can I join please? Just back from a holiday have hardly any money until pay day. Also moved house before Christmas and won’t too much on house . It’s just me and the kids so only one wage coming in .

Planning a NSD day today , tomorrow my DD has a party so will need to sort out a present . Should have a card somewhere.

Going to work out a meal plan for next week based mostly on what I have in the freezer.

Cantbearsed73 · 14/04/2018 11:25

Oops meant to say spent too much on the house!

MessySurfaces · 14/04/2018 14:27

squirrel loving the no spend afternoon!!
Feeling v virtuous for coming home from the airport on public transport rather than a cab yesterday, NSD so far today- but need to get the groceries in having been away for a fortnight...

Chimichangaz · 14/04/2018 15:43

Just popping on to say I have not done well AT ALL so far but I hope to rein myself in a bit next week. Should be able to do at least 2 NSD.

Squirrel26 · 14/04/2018 20:58

Achieved NS afternoon Grin Mainly because I took the dog out and left my wallet at home.

Now aiming for NS evening (i.e. Put DOWN the internet Grin )

Cantbearsed73 · 15/04/2018 08:34

Spent £1 yesterday. Have to buy some food essentials today but back to work tomorrow and it will be easier then !

Squirrel26 · 15/04/2018 09:56

I need to get money out for the dogwalker today. And pay for a couple of activities. And buy some soap and shower gel and lentils (I know. Weird shopping list).

Cantbearsed73 · 17/04/2018 17:54

How is everyone doing? I managed a NSD yesterday and spent £4 today so quite pleased. Really need to keep it going though !

Squirrel26 · 17/04/2018 18:43

NSD yesterday. I need to get dog food and petrol though. Those are pretty essential though I suppose.

Silvertap · 17/04/2018 20:09

NSD for me today. Yay.

MessySurfaces · 17/04/2018 20:48

ESOD for me today, and just the bus yesterday.
Not too bad- going to try for a total NSD tomorrow, fingers crossed...

Squirrel26 · 20/04/2018 08:07

NSD on Wednesday, £2 in Co-op and £4ish in Tesco yesterday. I don’t really need to spend anything today (especially if I remember to actually take the milk I’ve got out of the freezer to work with me.)

FoolandFitz · 20/04/2018 19:20

I've really not done well this month Sad I have had lots of NSDs but on the days I've spent, I've spent quite a lot of money. Plus have DS's birthday party coming up, which is budgetted for but still ...

Well done to those who have had NSDs and ESODs Smile

Doing badly til very recently with school holiday spending plus bought flights for holiday (only to find they are now cheaper Confused). This week a feel like I've reigned in some sense of control: NSDs Monday & Tuesday. Wednesday restocked on coffee pods (arguably essential) and bought some essential school uniform but brought in lunch again. Only bought lunch yesterday & today and it was very cheap both days

Cantbearsed73 · 21/04/2018 22:38

Doing well until today and then spent too much .... tomorrow needs to be a NSD . Always better when I’m at work

MessySurfaces · 22/04/2018 18:05

Technical NSD today (got DP to but a bottle to take to a party...) and ESOD today. Meh. Grocery day tomorrow too, ho hum.

Squirrel26 · 22/04/2018 19:08

NSD today, but yesterday I made the mistake of going shopping for milk and bread while starving and pissed off with the world...£22 worth of pissed off with the world, it turns out...

Chimichangaz · 22/04/2018 21:31

I have had an actual NSD this April - huzzah!!

GloGirl · 27/04/2018 16:38

I need to join in, difficult time for us at the minute. But can I join in for tomorrow I spent £14 today on a small top up shop!

Duckies · 28/04/2018 10:11

Hi, sorry if this has been well a d truly covered in previous months:

I'm looking for any recommendations for websites, books, authors which address the psychological issues around acquisition of stuff and advice on working through this while attempting no spend? Ideally would deal with issues around buying clothes as a woman but more generic would also be good!

I have read Marie Kondo, and while some of her ideas have helped me in a practical sense, she doesn't really challenge the acquisition of stuff in the way I'm looking for.

TIA
