How to give up costa / cafe Nero

I am obsessed, I go every day and sometimes twice.

I often buy cakes too because if I buy multi packs from the supermarket instead I eat too many in one sitting.

Anyone a reformed coffee shop addict ?! It’s about £5-£8 a day !!!

You could visit the coffeeforum, get into really expensive beans, grinders abs machines and Never Be Able To Enjoy a Coffee Out again, because nothing else is S good as the one you get at home (thanks, DH and friends).

parrotonmyshoulder · 11/03/2018 07:17

And machines, not an abs machine. I don’t know what one of those is, but it sounds painful.

savoyCabbage · 11/03/2018 07:21

Bloody hell £12000 a year on coffee! I can’t comprehend that people do this, buy a coffee and a cake every day. I genuinely had no idea.

Coffee shops are just there when you need them twice a year or whatever for me. Like carpet shops and Ryman’s. When you are meeting a friend or something like that you go to one. My mind is blown🤯

I think you're a victim of consumer culture. Buying crap you don't need even though you know you don't need it. Well most of us aren't we?

Zampa · 11/03/2018 07:44

Would knowing Caffe Nero pay no UK tax help you kick the habit?!

Notmorewashing · 12/03/2018 21:28

I’ve mansged to cut down to only once a day and no cake for a week. I have been getting an M&S pasty instead for 70p

Are you on O2? If so, you get it free Ona Tuesday.

If not....then try this (not for iPhone) Order a free O2 sim. Put it in your phone and then download the O2 priority moments app. You can then take the sim out, replace it with yours and once a week you will get a free one. Buy a reusable cup and u will get 2 loyalty stamps each time. Been doing this for ages now Grin

JustMarriedAndLovingIt · 13/03/2018 11:54

I am talking about Cafe Nero, just to be clear.

MyBrilliantDisguise · 13/03/2018 11:58

Buy yourself something for £40 on a Friday instead. Or buy something for £8 per day - mascara, nail varnish, a book, etc - if you're going to spend your money you might as well have something to show for it.

How are you paying for it? If you're using your card, then every time you walk past, transfer the equivalent money into a savings account. If it's cash, put it in a separate compartment of your bag.

gigi556 · 13/03/2018 13:15

Go to Pret and get a filter coffee for £1 instead. Also, bring your own mug and you get a discount and sometimes a freebie :)

mrsmayitstimetogo · 13/03/2018 13:23

50p for filter coffee w hot milk at Pret if you bring your own mug.

Commuterface · 14/03/2018 14:06

I'll probably get called scum for this but I cured my addiction to coffee shops by buying Nescafe Cappuccino and bringing sachets of that in to work. I add a bit of tinned ground coffee to make it a bit stronger. My DH bought be a pod flask www.amazon.co.uk/Pioneer-Insulated-Drinkpod-Capsule-Stainless/dp/B006YSIQJO/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=pod+flask&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1521036363&sr=8-1 which is amazing and I can sip that on the train.

Is there a Waitrose near you? If you divide your shopping up you can get free coffee if you have a My Waitrose card. I take a bubble flask with home made coffee with me - M&S or Waitrose Italian blend some days, almost as good.

ceeveebee · 14/03/2018 16:51

Astra when I first read that, I thought you took a flask into Waitrose to fill with their free coffee!!

Viviennemary · 14/03/2018 16:55

Just go say twice a week and put what you save each day in a fund and then treat yourself to something in a month or two.

Astrabees · 16/03/2018 13:23

Some days I pour my free Waitrose coffee into the flask and take it to the office, the only problem with going to Waitrose to buy one small item and get a free coffee is that quite often I find £30 worth of nice things I really must have, which defeats the object a bit.

stressedoutpa · 17/03/2018 18:05

Buy decent coffee and stick it in a Contigo before you leave the house.

Buy some mini muffins or cakes and stick them in the freezer. Take one with you each day. They will soon defrost.

creepingbuttercupdrivesmemad · 18/03/2018 07:09

Physically put away the money that you have saved this week and keep doing this. It will be a real incentive to see the money building up!

Munchkin08 · 18/03/2018 19:27

I got a Dualit milk frother from Costco about a year and a half ago and it's brilliant, it's saved me a fortune. I also have a small flask when I go out. You can buy really nice coffee or hot chocolate from a supermarket and it tastes really good, you don't need a lot of milk either.

Ragwort · 18/03/2018 19:48

Can you make a decent coffee at work? I take my own ground coffee, filter that sits over a mug and make lovely coffees whenever I want one. Smile.
