Me l intend to do one month on one month off.

hollytom · 01/01/2018 20:04

I'm going to do my best with this need to save as much as I can over next 3 months

OneMoStep · 01/01/2018 20:11

Can I join please 🙂? I think we fritter £ on small top-up shops in M&S. And I intermittently spend quite a lot on my hobby too (I can definitely reduce this though).

MsDeerheart · 01/01/2018 20:23

So haven't spend anything today and cooked tea from stuff in the freezer

calzone · 01/01/2018 20:47

Dh bought petrol and some essential food shopping.

I haven’t got dressed today.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 01/01/2018 20:51

Urgh! Day 1 and I’ve had to spend £3.25 on cat food. Bloody greedy cats!

ivykaty44 · 01/01/2018 21:00

You can’t not feed your cats 🐈 it’s an essential 🤔

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 01/01/2018 21:01

It is, but they’re still greedy sods. Perhaps they need a new year’s diet! Grin

PavlovaPlease · 01/01/2018 21:20

Day 1 - some food essentials now all the Christmas bits have gone. About £6 which will come out of the ynab food budget allocation.
Win - a friend gifted me something I needed to buy for dc1's hobby. I will pay it forward / return the favour in time.
Bank accounts and ynab sorted so that's a successful day 1. 30 more days to go! Just waiting for some online shopping returns to be refunded.

Littlechocola · 01/01/2018 21:26

I started recording spends after last payday on 20th December. It includes everything, essentials and non essentials. I got some Christmas stuff so already I had a spend day of £300 and others of 0.
It’s quite nice to see the 0’s!
Last night I purchased work shoes (60% off), I’m a nurse and do long shifts so was excited that the shoes that work for me were so massively reduced. It also felt a bit rebellious having a last spend, even if it was work related!
Today is the start of no spends for me!

therealreason · 01/01/2018 21:29

I'll join Smile

Like many other posters, my worst spending habit is buying lunches when I'm at work. Planning to make a big pan of soup tomorrow evening and take that in with me for the rest of the week. Cheap and healthy so killing two birds with one stone!

AdoraBell · 01/01/2018 21:57

Had a coffee out today, cabin fever, so that was £4 squandered Hmm

Tomorrow grocery delivery, but no other spends.

PollyShelbyLifeCoachServices · 01/01/2018 22:02

Can I join please? Today was a NSD and until 31st food, utilities and school lunches only. Good luck all!

Foureyedfox · 01/01/2018 22:11

Isn’t it weird how often we think about spending, without even realising it.
I am now noticing just how much money/spending enters my head “ooh I could do with getting...” or “We should go there...” etc.
It’s quite nice to check myself with “No Four! You’re on a spending fast! It will have to wait until Feb!”

Need to do my meal plan and hit Lidl.

Littlechocola · 01/01/2018 22:21

And how we convince ourselves that we really need something!

ScrubbyGarden · 01/01/2018 22:24

four yes!!! Today was always going to be an easy NSD for me, and yet in my head I was buying the paper, coffee, magazines, shoes online... didn't buy any of it though, phew. Not sure I will make it through tomorrow without a taxi though. (Rain, children, luggage, several buses. Hmmm)

Constance17 · 01/01/2018 22:36

Am in! As well as no spend. I am going to do no repeat in my outfits this month! Game on guys and girls 👍👍

drspouse · 01/01/2018 22:45

Resisted some cute tights from eBay for DD. Reminded myself that I already ordered her a few pairs from someone selling on FB and that may be enough.
Also downloaded a free hat pattern and cast on with some yarn I already have.

CanIBuffalo · 01/01/2018 23:07

Can I join? We had a big review of our finances today as DH has had to give up his overtime work for health reasons. We're going to focus on bringing forward the date we could theoretically pay off our offset mortgage.
We're going to cancel a few smaller Direct Debits and should be able to save £75 or so a month doing that. Also we looked at the renewal date for all our stuff and put notes in the diary to find cheaper alternatives rather than just let everything renew automatically. Apparently you can save a lot by negotiating.
I'm really hacked off with the Capital One credit card though. We were on a 1% cashback deal which meant they paid us up to about £350 some years but it seems to have stopped with no warning.Angry

FaithEverPresent · 01/01/2018 23:15

Solong every other month is a good idea! I might just manage that!

Well I haven’t spent anything today. After tea, I emptied the kitchen cupboards. I write an inventory of everything we have - it’s ruddy loads. If the zombie apocalypse happens, come to my house! I’ve meal planned for the week. Done a Tesco online shop for tomorrow, I’ve been fairly reserved and it’s come in at a half what I’d normally spend and my butcher bill will be lower because we’ve agreed to have a couple of vegetarian meals. Also I have points on my co-op card so emergency trips there are allowed for milk only using my points! So far, so good.

megletthesecond · 02/01/2018 10:06

Well, that went well. Took £20 cash to the supermarket as a budget and spent £27 on my card instead. I struggle to do lists when the kids are running amok which doesn't help with budgeting.

ScrubbyGarden · 02/01/2018 10:12

megle that's why I do ours online...

So, does it still count as a NSD if MIL gives us cash for the cab and the sarnies?? WinkBlush

Peppaismysaviour · 02/01/2018 10:40

I have been reading and hadn't yet commented but was taking note from the shadows!
Today I am not having a good day and it's not even 11. I have woken up with worst period ever, ended up at a soft play for toddler to run off energy and cabin fever, bought a shit ton of bacon and Pepsi because of said terrible period and then realised I've lost a tenner between home and soft play.
Bad morning

ScrubbyGarden · 02/01/2018 10:46

Argh peppa! Poor you! This afternoon will be better...

LaurieFairyCake · 02/01/2018 10:48

I've also resisted buying. I have to go to the post office to pick up an eyeshadow I ordered from America and it has a £8.99 Customs Charge so will be spending that later Sad - I will just have to tell myself it's part of my December spending as I ordered it 3 weeks ago.
