Question for horsey Frugaleers Is dressing up a real pony as a unicorn for a kids party a thing? sounds f ing dangerous

FridgeCut · 30/12/2017 14:57

£12 in asda, two birthday cards, some potatoes, part baked bread, lucozade, smoothies and apple baby food for poorly DS. Thought that was fairly reasonable. Bank account isn't looking great at all, will have to be very careful the rest of the month. I think I have about £100 to pay in plus £600 on money for me to go in. I am going to try and buy nothing but food and fuel.

WreckTangled · 30/12/2017 15:01

I have no money left in my personal account BlushGrin I do have some cash and the joint account is as it should be I hope anyway, I haven't actually checked as too scared

needastrongone · 30/12/2017 15:09

Laska, that would be a thing. It would have to be a tolerant pony, but they don't seem to mind. We had one we dressed up every Halloween. Current pony would be most displeased, he didn't cope well with a tiny bit of tinsel on Christmas Day (grumpy git). It might need a bit of adult supervision if actually riding is involved.

need they wanted to glitter this one and flowers and ribbons ..

needastrongone · 30/12/2017 15:20

I personally wouldn't, but it can work. We lent ours to a little girl for a Camp once and she came back a strange purple colour because they had sprayed her with something. She was daft as a brush and simply loved attention. Current one, he'd just kick you and laughGrin

The white/grey ponies at the stables where I ride have horns which attach to the browband of the bridle.

When I took my friends little girl to see the horseys a while ago I asked my instructor to pop a horn on the smallest one. She obliged. My little friend was amazed. Real unicorn!!

Laska5772 · 30/12/2017 15:31

definitely a Thing then we dont have a pony but I may try this with the cat later Grin

ememem84 · 30/12/2017 15:33

HA! Good luck!! I tried to put a collar on catface earlier this week. Almost lost my hands.

When we move she will go outside and will need to wear a collar so I thought I was being clever by making her wear one now. Just to get used to it.

Will try again later.

LittleDoritt · 30/12/2017 15:52

Christmas chaos reigns here too. The children go back to school on Thursday and I feel guilty but I'm counting the days!

Mine don't go back until the 8th Shock they broke up on the 20th.. they're being extra trying today.

LittleDoritt · 30/12/2017 16:01

Argh, that took two hours to post and ain't even relevant now Angry I think a new phone might be one of my spends for 2018. This one is seriously giving up the ghost.

Anyway, NSD here.

LittleDoritt · 30/12/2017 16:04

Aww, cutie!

Mine have been off since the 15th Wreck Shock It feels much longer....

SnugglySnerd · 30/12/2017 16:09

We used to have a Christmas fancy dress competition at the stables when I was a kid. My best effort was as a "Silent knight" (see what I did there?!). It mainly involved covering myself and the tack in foil. The ponies never seemed bothered so long as nothing was flapping.

northender · 30/12/2017 16:24

Our holidays have been perfect this time, they broke up on the 22nd and go back on the 8th. Breaking up on the 15th is just too soon as far as I'm concerned, I feel for you.
I've just started a gas and elec switch which should save £23 a month based on usage over the last 12 months. There is an exit fee to pay but the new company will pay it and give £25 cashback. It's a small British company called Bulb who mainly deal in renewables. I had been slack in not moving sooner, but better late than never!
Gym memberships are next. We pay by direct debit but when I had to upgrade ds' because of his age, I saved a fortune by paying for 12 months in a lump sum (and he can have a break at any time too with no penalty) It works out at £14 a month rather than £22 Shock. If I can get something similar for dh and I it would be a great saving.
Have checked through all our regular payments and there isn't anything else to look at at the moment.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/12/2017 16:54

Excellent saving North, I've heard of bulb. The gym contract sounds a bargain. Our local leisure centre is much more & frankly looks shit.

I'm right near a champneys but it's £100 a month or so Shock. Plus joining fee. It looks lush though. Proper posh.

Boots are giving me £10, I complained about something. I can get my hair stuff now, £2.50 for 3 bottles. Should last me long enough to save up a voucher for the next lot.

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/12/2017 17:03

Bugger me my DC are going to bankrupt me.
They spent their vouchers in Smyth's toys. I spent £43 in the range on storage for the Tupperware cupboard of doom.

Popped into a farm on the way home about a pony club for dd. Ds also wants to go do that will be £70 on Tuesday.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 30/12/2017 17:15

£74 in aldi.

Got loads for that and also includes a new king size bedding which is very nice! No other spends.

WreckTangled · 30/12/2017 17:19

Wow north that's so cheap! It's over £40 a month for our local council run gym.

Made the JO beef rendang for dinner (I got the book too snuggly!) it was really nice and I did my own mint yoghurt to go with it.

Woah the 15th?! That's crazy! The next half term is only five weeks long which I'm pleased about!

Unescorted · 30/12/2017 18:15

Got back a couple of hours ago... No snow but it is very parky. The heating is struggling. Getting away for Christmas is my mum's present to me. That way I can't wait hand and foot on them, my in laws and my own family. She saw one year I was very close to breaking after cooking 3 Xmas dinners over 2 days - dicks of sil and bil won't sit down together and it was my parents turn to Christmas.
North which gym chain do you use? I looked at the Anytime one at Piccadilly but it was best part of £40 pm. I made hasty excuses.

Has anyone had experience of an abnormal mammogram result? I had my works health check done just before I went away. Got back to letter saying that I need to contact my GP... I am torn between thinking it is nothing and panicking?

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/12/2017 18:42

My mum had one, the image wasn't clear so they re did one side.

Try not to worry just yet. Easier said than done but do try.

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/12/2017 18:51

When do you think the best time to do a car boot will be. Now ish or wait until people have been paid at the end of Jan?

Not sure unescorted. I've never had one done

WreckTangled · 30/12/2017 18:52

I'm not sure either unescorted but, assuming you had your mobile with you, if it was anything very serious they would have phoned you.

Taytocrisps · 30/12/2017 19:13

Not impressed with my Tesco delivery! My Donegal Catch (frozen fish) didn't turn up and the pork loin joint had a Use By date of the 31st December i.e. tomorrow. I was planning to cook it for dinner on New Year's Day so that's not much use Angry. I think I'll be giving them some negative feedback.

Unescorted try not to worry too much. Maybe the results were inconclusive and they want another look.
