Yep lillylollylandy I get paid weekly though so wonder how it will cope with that but I've never used the underfunded function, will try it and see what happens I can always hit the undo button!

For joint budget there are 8 payments per month and dh never transfers on a consistent day or sometimes not a consistent amount either so I can't do scheduled transactions for his input, I do for mine alright as I do it the day I get paid.

I've two ynab budgets - one personal one joint. Today was catch up on Oct transactions day and tomorrow when I get my payslip I'll be able to make a plan for the week ahead.

bacon good luck Wink

LillyLollyLandy · 31/10/2017 14:52

Mammy it should cope fine with weekly pay, Americans are paid fortnightly so I’m sure it’s got some flexibility in there. My DH and I have separate accounts etc too. We have a shared spreadsheet for joint costs and do transfers accordingly but I run YNAB for my own money - he refuses to engage with it. V annoying!

Tiddlywinks63 · 31/10/2017 14:55

Oh bum and buggeration ☹️
The washing machine has died. Comprehensively. Ouch.
All plans for Christmas presents shopping in disarray 🙄
Frugality plus starting in earnest today

mammymammyIRL · 31/10/2017 15:05

Just paid balance on my trip to Bermingham €78 - so my cousin owes me €150 on this trip, will get that when we're going and my friend will pay me the €160 she owes me for our trip to Belfast on Friday. Both of these payments need to go against my credit card bill.

My brother also gave me €50 prize that my dd won, I've already allowed her to spend this money so I need to pay that off my credit card also. I've an envelope in my purse with a lodgement slip for creditcard and am putting the cash into as I get it.

SunnyLikeThursday · 31/10/2017 15:16

Em that's a useful hint on how to ask for help from people. I'm not good at that and always sound either too demanding or too pathetic. I'll try the hinting option.

I'm writing another grant proposal now. I was just enjoying having got rid of my last deadline and now another one has come along. It's too good an opportunity to miss though. V. exciting.

mammymammyIRL · 31/10/2017 15:17

I just wonder will I have to set goals for fun money too so I'll get some each week or will it just fill out the goals in the order that they're entered.

lilly my dh won't engage with it either, and he often ends up paying a referral fee on his account because of getting overdrawn Angry

Cagliostro · 31/10/2017 15:22

That sounds really organised ⭐️️

Home from town and now lazing in bed feeding Cagletini who dozed through the entire trip. Found a feeding pillow for £13 and had subway for lunch :o :o

Cagliostro · 31/10/2017 15:22

Oh bugger re: washing machine though :( that sucks

Cagliostro · 31/10/2017 15:26

The organised ⭐️️ Was for all the YNAB and credit card paying etc it wasn't being sarcy about the going overdrawn 😳 (We were doing that every month for a loooong time)

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/10/2017 15:30

Tiddly Was it old enough to die like that or is it worth having a moan to the CEO of the company?.

Girlie I use valued opinions & Ipsos I say & e rewards which you have to join through the nectar website.

Tiddlywinks63 · 31/10/2017 15:53

I think it's about 9 years old and is on nearly every day. It wasn't an expensive one and the repair man said new parts plus labour would be £200 minimum so I guess better to look for another 😢
DH wanted me to trek around different stores comparing prices (he doesn't like online shopping 😡)
My cat's bum face and ensuing conversation through gritted teethswiftly changed his mind (yes, I'm crabby but only because he'd prefer 'to think about it' while washing piles up) And we're away this weekend and I'm away Wednesday to Sunday next week) And he's not forking out for it.

Loveabaconsandwich · 31/10/2017 16:18

Sad tiddly washing machine is about the worst thing to break. Glad you won the argument with DH though!

DD2 was an absolute pain on the walk back from the school run. Had to carry her half the way. Seriously considering driving more often, the part that can be driven Confused

Exciting opportunity it sounds like sunny

Glad cagletini is being good for you cag. You sound like you are smashing it!

Thanks seacow . Going to research how it works

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/10/2017 16:20

I don't blame you. If you don't use a household appliance you have no business poking your nose in.

Appliances online, marks electrical or appliances direct are quick & cheap.

Don't forget the cashback from Topcashback. If quidcos offering more get Topcashback to price match, quidco take ages to pay out.

9 years daily use is fair dos really.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/10/2017 16:24

www.theappliancedepot.co.uk/laundry/washing-machines

These people sell graded appliances. Some are dented on the side.

Meh. You can't even see the sides of my washer.

mammymammyIRL · 31/10/2017 16:37

cag I knew what you meant!

I had a clothing disaster on Sat night - the zip broke on my jumpsuit as I put it on, third wear. I love it and it's a great fit, if I return it, they'll only refund me, I want to replace zip, how would I get around them not keeping it oh wise one? fluffy
Luckily hen night was on in city where my dss lives and I borrowed from his wife. At 7pm on a Sat night options are limited Angry

needastrongone · 31/10/2017 16:43

Oh Tiddly, that's the crappest domestic item to be without. I've done 6 weeks without a dishwasher now, NO WAY could you do that with the washing machine. I've used appliances online before successfully.

Frugal things I've done today

  • sold 3 polo shirts of DD's from her old team (never worn) to new members for £15. Better than nothing.
  • Updated all banking.
  • Done my own ironing. I always do, but there was so much that DH had suggested getting this pile done.
  • allocated money for some pony stuff that will be needed at the end of the month and spoken to the vet to prevent a visit fee of £45.
  • Given DD some cleansers of mine that I won't use, this will see her through to Christmas when I'll treat her to some Liz Earle (she used my sample stuff and loved it). Clears out some stuff of mine too.
  • reduced food budget as I stocked up so much this last week. I'll convert to the Christmas fund I think.
  • made a massive grain and veggie salad for my lunches for the rest of the week.
  • fixed my own boiler. Go me! You Tube rocks.
  • Bootcamp is cancelled anyway so £10 saved.

Spends.
£40 race fee and photo package fee (early bird offer) for Manchester marathon 2018.
£183 sponsorship of flower beds in our village for the 'in bloom' competition. This is a work expense though and will claim it back, just didn't have the company cheque book.

needastrongone · 31/10/2017 16:46

That's my next job Fluffy, switch accounts again to that or Halifax.

I've sent off my form to claim my standing charges too btw.

Oh and got a massive bag of apples free from a neighbour that I will stew and freeze.

Fluffycloudland77 · 31/10/2017 17:17

Yorkshire bank were offering £250 Need. Do you mean surface water charges?.

Mammy Take it to a seamstress, zips are easy to replace for those that know how. You can have a crack at complaining to the CEO about it if it's fairly new. No one wears a jumpsuit all the time do they? So it's not it's been used lots.

needastrongone · 31/10/2017 17:19

Grin Yes! Sorry, I've also done a tough run today, I go a bit wonky in the brain when I'm knackered.

hamburgers · 31/10/2017 17:39

Hi frugaleers! Can I join this lovely and chatty group?

A little about me and why I need to become a frugaleer... (please don’t judge me!)

H and I are completely broke after his business collapsed. He is looking for a new job but it’s a slow and long process as anyone knows. Even harder given he’s been doing his own thing for the past 6 years so doesn’t have immediate pigeon-hole experience/skills that recruiters are looking for when filling a job.

We have no assets or savings and are currently on benefits. We’re in receipt of housing benefit, JSA and council tax reduction. It helps but it barely touches the sides to be honest especially that we are in rent arrears. We have loads of credit card debt too Sad

I’m 31 weeks pregnant and not currently working. I’ve sent off for my maternity grant and sure start vouchers. Has anyone else got these? How long did you wait till he money was in your account?

Tried not to spend loads of money today:
£4 on McDonalds (argh 🙈)
£9.99 (!!!!!!!) on a new mop from Homebase which I desperately needed as the old one was bloody filthy even after I soaked it in bleach
£1 on a bar of chocolate

Looking forward to sharing and receiving some money-saving tips! Smile

MeadowHay · 31/10/2017 17:39

I agree re: seamstress, for small things I either get DH to sort it out or get a seamstress to if it is beyond his capability, I don't think he knows how to do a zip plus we don't have a sewing machine. Smile

Today I have not vomited once, HURRAH! I am still v. nauseous and only capable of eating mostly plain crackers but have had half a cheese and onion roll and half a tin of tomato soup and a cup-a-soup plus some sweets and doing fluids alright. Feel many miles better than the last few days. DM is coming to visit me tomorrow. Just resting atm then will reassess tomorrow or Thursday what to do about work as GP signed me off for two weeks so if I want to go back earlier I need to get a fit note to replace my sick note for the remainder of the time, so complicated. Finally told my manager about my pregnancy via e-mail when I sent my sick note Blush. He said he wouldn't tell anyone except his boss & HR.

A fella came to fix our radiator brackets today. We told the letting agents about it a few days after we moved in over 2 months ago and they only arranged someone to come and do the 10 minute job today :| but at least it doesn't cost us anything (momentarily ignores the fact that our rent would be way cheaper if it were a mortgage payment so we have effectively paid for it in that la la la...).

I have had NSDs all the last few days as I've been so sick, which has been pretty frugal for us, and obviously I'm hardly eating which is saving us money, would much rather be better and enjoying my dinners again though!

Sunny Good luck with the new grant application, hope it goes well.

I never bothered with OPKs, read about them and couldn't be arsed and wanted it to be as stress-free and 'normal' as possible to have a baby. But I appreciate age is very definitely on my side so.

Sorry to hear about washing machine, our washer/dryer is Beko and it's ace, we got a great deal on it from Curry's once in a sale, would really recommend them and their customer service is good we've found (Beko I mean). We have a Hotpoint one now in this flat that is the LL's, it's fine but not as good as our lovely Beko baby which is hibernating in my parents' garden shed!

Did do a frugal thing last night and finally e-mailed my October payslip to the LA for our suspended HB application so fingers crossed there.

MeadowHay · 31/10/2017 17:41

Cross-posted with Ham, welcome! Really sorry to hear about your DH's business, that must be so hard for you both Sad.

Have you checked your entitlement re: Maternity Allowance and/or ESA and any other benefits you could be entitled to that you didn't realise? Loads of people don't claim all the benefits that they're entitled to so it's just a thought. You can do eligibility checks on websites like entitledto.org to check if you're getting everything you should be.

lifelongfrugaleer · 31/10/2017 17:42

£17 in Morrison's today.

lifelongfrugaleer · 31/10/2017 17:43

Hi Ham, no judging here.

Bugger about the washer.
