Oh my goodness girlie Shock your poor brother! Can he move his fingers and shoulders?

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 26/02/2017 22:02

I haven't seen him yet wreck he isn't local but my parents are going to bring him back this way tomos as there is more of us down here to help. He lives with his gf but she will be at work all day. It's a complete nightmare tbh! Afaik his shoulders are okay but thumbs are buggered as well 😧

Ipsomatic · 26/02/2017 22:02

Oh my Girlie that is not good. I know someone else who did that cycling down a set of stairs. He came off like superman.

Cagliostro · 26/02/2017 22:34

Bloody hell girlie Shock thank goodness he has family around Thanks

Been certainly sounds like a no on that job! Sometimes the best thing is just to walk away from something like that. Good to talk through it here though.

Ipso that's an interesting idea. It does seem like this current school situation is pretty unsustainable really. :( So worth looking into other options if it might be affordable. Somewhere that will be more understanding of the health issues too. I know nada about independent schools, but could it be that any indies near you will be similarly 'pushy' due to location? Albeit in a less government controlled way? I have no idea but it may be an issue.

I'm feeling a fair bit better after a hot bath and ridiculously tasty risotto leftovers (I must try making arancini sometime too, DH always makes too much risotto!). So hopefully I'll be ok for tomorrow, we have a learning group and then I'm teaching piano. Will swing by the library too, books to return and printing to sort out.

WreckTangled · 27/02/2017 06:30

Girlie how awful got him. I'm pleased you are all there able to help him what a nightmare.

I'm going food shopping today although feeling quite uninspired. The dc seem to be eating veg at the moment so will make the most of that whilst I can.

Brightermornings · 27/02/2017 06:33

I've been awol not spending though!! Last week just seemed a tough week just had to take each day at a time.
Ds was home this weekend he's bought his first car! So my shopping bill was a bit more as I did the mum thing and sent him back with food. Even though he has much more disposable income than me.

Beeneatingburnttoast · 27/02/2017 06:38

The soundtrack to my journey to work today is a man having a good snore! Grin

Planned spend today is a trip to a cheap card shop at lunchtime. I need to stop buying expensive cards from Tesco. Also there's some free biscuits on Shopmium which I'm going to try and pick up too

ememem84 · 27/02/2017 06:40

Omg girlie your poor brother! Can't imagine breaking both arms. I broke my hand a few years ago and that was bad enough. But both in plaster...I wouldn't have been able to cope.

Hoping for nsd today. It's going to be a spendy week. Dentist tomorrow morning. One of my teeth is hurting so I'm guessing a filling or something. Bah.

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/02/2017 06:51

Oh dear girlie your poor brother.
Nsd planned today

WreckTangled · 27/02/2017 07:10

Oh em that's tricky as they won't be able to X-ray you. Hopefully it's something simple.

ememem84 · 27/02/2017 07:48

wreck I thought that. But I went about two months ago and has X-rays. So hopefully they won't need to.

I was going to change dentists as mine is way out in the sticks and there's a really good one just 10 minutes from my work. But there's an initial consultation fee plus they do their own X-rays and need to do a through work up at the first appointment. So it'd be pricey.

Will hold off on changing I think. Smile

Off to work in a bit. Half terms over here now so school traffic is back. And is pissing with rain. So a 10 minute drive will probably take around 50 minutes this morning.

WreckTangled · 27/02/2017 07:51

Oh that's good.

I'm starting to dread the flight to NZ. I've seen these but they're obviously expensive. They're flight cushions for the dc. I really can't decide and need to decide soon...

allthebestplease · 27/02/2017 08:07

ipso I worked in the independent sector at a very caring school we didn't do says so a lot of pressure was taken away, we had a lot of special needs kids also kids transferring in due to bullying issues. I think if its the right school its worth the money.
However another indep sch up the rd is very very academic so very different.

ememem84 · 27/02/2017 08:17

Oh id seen those. Great idea! A friend bought something similar when they took their dd to Aussie last year. But I think theirs was inflatable. Are those?

ememem84 · 27/02/2017 08:18

Last time I flew to nz I managed to grab a whole row to myself for the hk auckland bit. Was great. I lay down over 4 seats and slept.

SnugglySnerd · 27/02/2017 08:25

Em I'm going to the dentist tomorrow too. Hoping that last week's sugar cravings and 3am bowls of cereal haven't done too much damage!

Girlie your poor brother, he's going to be out of action for a while isn't he? Good that he has family to look after him.

Ipso I honestly don't know the answer to your question! The biggest advantage I can see of independent schools is smaller class sizes which mean much more individual support for children than we could ever give.
Having said that I work in a very nurturing school with a strong pastoral ethos and a superb SEN dept so there are state schools around that fit the bill.
I can see pros and cons of each and of home ed. I love the idea of home ed but I imagine it must be pretty exhausting researching and planning resources for all the subjects! At least at school we mainly teach to our specialisms and can reuse resources/whole lessons with different classes.
I think the best thing would be to visit lots of schools, talk to staff, parents and students (if possible) and see what seems best.

Think we have really screwed up with DD. We thought we'd start talking a bit about what will happen when the babies come to prepare her a bit. She's just focussed on mummy being in hospital and is really upset. She woke up crying this morning and saying she doesn't want mummy to go without her and she didn't want to go to nursery, more tears. Fortunately her key worker is amazing and got her through the door with big cuddles and kind words.
I feel awful, wish we'd never mentioned it. She's been excited about the babies until now and I think she's going to keep worrying now. I don't know whether to mention it again or not.

ememem84 · 27/02/2017 08:31

snuggly how old is dd? I was 3 when my dsis was born. And I apparently was the same. Super clingy and upset and wouldn't leave my mum alone. As it happens my sis was born at midnight. So both mum & dad put me to bed then went to the hospital. I had no idea. Grandparents babysat me.

SnugglySnerd · 27/02/2017 08:35

She's nearly 3, Em. She usually deals with things very well with a bit of advanced warning but I don't think we've helped this time!

Ipsomatic · 27/02/2017 08:37

All that's good to know that independent schools can be better. I have asked on mumsnet local what the local options are like. I'm also going to go to the school and ask for more information on what they're doing at school so I can help more at home.

Snuggly apparently when I was born I gave a very large toy yacht to my brother and that made me a lot more popular, if it helps any.

OP posts:
SnugglySnerd · 27/02/2017 08:44

Ah yes we've got her a pressie from the babies, hopefully that will help! Also hoping I won't be in hospital for too long. I'm going to try and make sure that DH gets home for dinner and bedtime every evening so she knows he's there even if it means being alone in the hospital a bit more.

ememem84 · 27/02/2017 08:54

My sister gave me a torch. Which changed colour. And a bunny rabbit (a real one...). I apparently took delight in cackling evilly and shining the torch in the faces of the other mums. I was a bit of a terror

The bunny rabbit was not at the hospital. It was magically at home when we got back.

Ipsomatic · 27/02/2017 09:08

That's good Snuggly. Do you have a date for the birth if you are having a cesarean?

OP posts:
IdStillRatherBeKnitting · 27/02/2017 09:32

We got the dc to school on time, phew. I always panic first day back. Shop closed today, so back home. I am going to blitz the kitchen today. I may never emerge again...

Weighed in at 10st 9lb this morning. Am officially making an effort from here on in. Last year I got back to this weight in april, so am a month ahead so to speak, seems I am on a slow annual yo yo.

Ipsomatic · 27/02/2017 10:45

Ds and I have both had our flu vaccines Girlie. Mine was this morning so I am waiting to see what happens. suspence. Smile

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 27/02/2017 10:47

Yes em it's inflatable.

Snuggly not sure what to say. I don't think we told dd about me being in hospital. Probably a good job as I was in for three weeks in the end and dd had both legs in casts at the time. It was a nightmare! I don't even know who looked after her most the time Dh had to sort it all.
