It is no council tax Feb and March for those paying by D irect debit isnt it?

Ipsos · 28/01/2016 23:13

need I think a little bit of laziness can be very healthy in A grade people. He's much less likely to burn himself out that way. A lot of very clever kids think that life is done when the exams are finished and they forget that they then have to work for 40 years after that. It's in the working years when laziness (or sensible, in-born sense of proportion) really comes into its own. Well done your ds!

Should probably buy, or plan to buy some food today.

Gale force winds anyone? There is lots to spare here. I don't mind sharing

SpottyTeacakes · 29/01/2016 06:37

Aiming for a nsd today. Might take the aloe Vera gel back somewhen as I don't think I need it.

Ememem84 · 29/01/2016 06:40

As predicted today I am a snot monster attractive just in time for the weekend. Hmm

Will be going to work in my comfiest snuggliest outfit and am wearing my ugg boots. Don't care today.

Can't find tissues so will have to stock up before work.

Its a work from home day (cold windy grey) but as colleague is sick I have to go in. Grrrrr

At least it's Friday. Might treat myself to a nice hot chocolate on the way.

CremeEggThief · 29/01/2016 06:57

Wind is scary here this morning, Babs. I didn't sleep well at all.

Wolfcub · 29/01/2016 07:47

Morning all, we have scary high winds too with lots of branches blown down overnight. Very very pleased that it's pay day and I managed to halve our shopping bill for January by eating out of the freezer/cupboards. We were going a bit stir crazy by the end though. Huge Ocado delivery last night. I'm hoping that with the few things left in the freezer we can get through most of the month on small top up shops. I've also enough loo roll, laundry liquid and dishwasher tablets to last for a two months four months and six months respectively.

supermariossister · 29/01/2016 07:59

Envirofone have offered 53 for the s4 due to the mark on home button I'm happy with that it's only 9 pound off.

Just ordered ds a school jumper from asda 4 pound, he's lost all but one and even after hunting they are not to be found and I'm sick of sponging it down or trying to get it dry quickly. I've probably spent less on the jumper than the money I spend drying the current one. Not the same as the one I normally buy but not buying the badge expensive ones as I think people are taking them home.

How is everyone?

Ipsos · 29/01/2016 08:38

It's very windy here too. The sound is amazing.

Poor ds came down with a d&v bug in the night, so we are having a day at home building lego. The bug is very much going around at school and even the teacher was off yesterday, so it was not a major surprise.

Hope everyone else is well. Wrap up warm Em.

OP posts:
needastrongone · 29/01/2016 08:45

Oh dear ipsos, hope your DS is ok, those bugs do the rounds quickly in primary. Even if the kids are taught good wash washing habits, it's hard for the younger ones to be thorough. Thanks for the thoughts on DS. He drives me mad sometimes!! There is no chance of burnout Smile

Very windy here too.

I am tired today, the early starts to the yard kill me by Friday.

super Doesn't sound too bad for the phone then.

I am doing a big chilli tonight, with nachos. A treat tea, but not a takeaway. Old El Paso is on offer at the minute, although the Aldi version is good, and possible cheaper still.

Laska, yes, no council tax for the next 2 months. It's £200 a month for us, so a decent break financially.

SlightlyTired · 29/01/2016 09:27

Hurrah! Pay day. fights urge to go internet window shopping
Today after work I will be doing a freezer audit and some serious meal planning before the Aldi shop tomorrow. I've set myself an aggressive groceries budget this month as that is a major area of expenditure for us. NSD the last couple of days though this morning I caved and bought some coffee machine capsules as my little stovetop espresso maker just wasn't cutting it.
The wind is roaring in the chimneys today. Hope everyone with lurgies feels better soon.

fuzzpig · 29/01/2016 11:24

Thank you all for the finger-crossing :) it's actually a company he was supposed to be interiewed by a couple of months back - he turned up and they'd given him the wrong time, and he had to get back to work so couldn't wait. I think the actual vacancy is different, but it's good that they've remembered him. It's a shame the interview isn't in the actual branch he'd be working in - some of the staff know him, as it's so local to us. Anyway, have a little while to prepare, will probably need a haircut by then and best to get some new trousers (his best pair got bleach on them at work, FFS!) but they don't cost too much.

Em you can join me on the snot monster bench. Yuk. :o

Still pondering the food budget. Annoyingly the last few slices of bread went mouldy (only opened on Monday!) so I'm thinking of freezing some sooner next time. We're virtually out of fresh fruit but I think that's because I didn't order apples last time as we had a few left (but not a week's worth). Roast last night was nice (although couldn't taste it much thanks to bunged up nose! Angry :o), I'm very glad we have a working oven again.

I'm wondering whether to try and set a weekly or monthly budget for food, and then I'm not sure if we should have a separate thing for restaurants/takeaway, and then if we do something like getting a sausage roll from Greggs guilty pleasure which budget does that come under? See this is why I give up, I get all tangled up in the details! Blush

Anyway I think this week's spend will go up as I'm going to ask DH to pick up a few bits - I always get insanely hungry when I have a cold, and crave fizzy caffeine, throat-scratching crisps and hot squash with honey. Probably need more painkillers too as thanks to my pathetic excuse for an immune system underlying illnesses, a cold always leads to nasty flu-type aches as well. We're out of milk, cereal and bread which was bad planning I think.

fuzzpig · 29/01/2016 11:25

OMG I've just realised, now we have an oven we can get part baked rolls and freeze them. YAY!

Whataboutnodetox · 29/01/2016 11:32

Fuzz our bread went very mouldy very quickly this week too! We were most perturbed.

Husband is going out for dinner with friends. That's going to whack the budget a bit!

Ememem84 · 29/01/2016 13:11

We always buy bread and freeze it. I sometimes forget to eat it otherwise.

I'm working on a good budget. My meal plan went to pot this week. I've factored in treat (or commiseration) dinner on Tuesday. Exam results!!!!! I might need chips n cheese for that!!!

Have so far today spent £7 on tissues (bought loads to stock up) £2 on hot chocolate. And 60p on a pack of hula hoops. I took lunch and snacks with me to work. And am feeding my cold.

Boss offered me a hot toddy before. I'm not sure if he was joking. I said yes though.

fuzz snot monster bench is rubbish isn't it. Smile

supermariossister · 29/01/2016 13:54

Ds out tomorrow with a friend and his parents getting a taxi to local place for meal. She's a great lady who I trust with him but my anxiety is through the roof. Wish I could get a grip on it

Whataboutnodetox · 29/01/2016 14:02

This month I am keeping a track of my actual balance in a spreadsheet. Every time we spend money I knock it off so I know how much money we truly have. Why on earth have I never done it before?! It is really helping me to see what we actually have and to try and stop it disappearing.

Ipsos · 29/01/2016 14:03

Our gluten-free Genius bread was delivered already past it's sell by date. Must be the weather. Smile

I wrote to Tesco's CEO to ask if they could bring back the tasty tasty ham that I've been more or less living on for the last 19 months. Somebody else replied to say "sorry, no" and they sent me a tenner. Oh well.

OP posts:
fuzzpig · 29/01/2016 14:24

That's pants Ipsos we often found that DH's bread on prescription would be extremely short dated. That's why we stopped bothering, even though at the time we got free prescriptions. There wasn't enough room in the freezer for 7 loaves at a time, it was such a waste! Still, maybe as we now have an oven we will try making our own :)

I'm glad I'd frozen the wraps as the DCs got them out for their lunch (they made their own - dread to think how much cheese and chorizo they cut though Hmm)

DH has been sent a list of essential cold-healing supplies, so won't be NSD. I'll bring a hot squash and honey to the bench for you Em :o

Not entirely sure I'll be able to take DD to dancing tomorrow.

SpottyTeacakes · 29/01/2016 14:40

Ipsos hope ds feels better

Really want take away pizza tonight....

SpottyTeacakes · 29/01/2016 14:40

Oh nsd. So far....

needastrongone · 29/01/2016 14:46

Ipsos, have your tried Abel and Cole? There's a large selection of gluten free products on their website. Plus, the meat is all organic, so highly unlikely to contain any nasties. Their customer service is excellent, so would tell you anyway, if you asked.

Super What exactly in the scenario that you describe is worrying you? Maybe if you dissect it, you can see where the anxiety is coming from, and deal with it?

£22 Aldi (one of those shops that you can't quite believe you got do much stuff for so little money)
£20 Farm shop for meat, chicken and ham.

fuzzpig · 29/01/2016 14:54

Me too Spotty! I can't really stand up so even the planned easy cheesy pasta is beyond me today. Blush

Ooh... I could ask DH to get a couple of pizzas (one GF for him) when he's picking up the other stuff - would be cheaper, and a celebration of the fact we can now cook it in the oven! :o

But no in the interest of sticking to the meal plan, I shall resist. DH said he'll be doing the dinner when he gets in anyway, so he may as well do the pasta. I'm putting it on the list for next week though :o there's a particular one I really love that I guess I haven't had for a couple of years.

Super sorry you're feeling so anxious. Have you tried mindfulness for anxiety? It sounds a bit 'woo' but I've actually found it really helpful. I am learning to accept that I get worried, which helps stop the spiralling panic feeling. Rather than getting annoyed at myself, I just kind of 'sit with' the feeling and accept it as part of me. If that makes sense. It's hard to remember to do it all the time but it is good. Thanks

Ipsos · 29/01/2016 15:30

Thanks need, I'll look in that. I'm increasingly thinking that organic may be the best idea if we could afford it.

OP posts:
needastrongone · 29/01/2016 15:42

I split it, to be honest. No way could I afford to buy organic all the time, so I buy maybe a 70/30 % split. Their fresh produce is really very good, and menu planning helps to use everything delivered. As does the fact that you can substitute items for others anyway, so basically choose your produce. I also bought a huge box of blood oranges recently, which I've kept in the garage and are delicious for juicing.
