Need yes that's right. It's almost entirely because dh, ds and I are still eating separately. Once we are able to eat together again it will be much easier and cheaper. Things are already getting better. I can eat steak and salmon fillet now and sometimes also chicken. I really hope that that improving trend will continue.

Ipsos · 31/01/2016 21:13

Gosh, I just looked up how much protein a person is meant to have and it says 46g per day per average adult woman which is about 200g pork. We must be eating about enough for ten people. Oh dear.

OP posts:
Ipsos · 31/01/2016 21:22

Oh, but another page says that children, people who are very active and people who need to build muscle need much more. That must be use then. Hum.

'Pay day' for me today (well the day money hits our joint account). £100 saved to long-term saving, £50 for Christmas.

I'm going to hold out on the Fitbit for a while as I've realised I can use my phone to track steps (although don't like to carry my phone with me at all times!)

Has anyone been to Bluestone? Thinking of paying for a weekend there next year which will effectively be my mum's Christmas present from us. Or any other similar places for q weekend in February?

babsmam · 01/02/2016 07:10

LSD planned today. Fitness classes and cubs and football. No more than a tenner. Aldi butchers from yesterday

SpottyTeacakes · 01/02/2016 07:19

Nsd planned. I need to do my January expenditure today as we seem to have no money in the account Confused good job there's no council tax!

SpottyTeacakes · 01/02/2016 07:22

I'm also going to condense my stock does anyone know how long I should do it for and how much I should do it?

Pointlessfan · 01/02/2016 07:55

Ugh. My sore throat has turned into tonsillitis and DD kept crying in the night due to teething. Feel dreadful so have called in sick, dropped her at nursery and gone back to bed with a hot drink. That should mean an NSD but I might look online for DH's birthday present while he's not here. I'm thinking of getting him a waffle maker as he loves waffles. I think you can get one which converts to a sandwich toaster which would be even better. Depends how much they are and how big, our kitchen is pretty small.

Ipsos · 01/02/2016 08:14

Glad you're able to stay home pointless. It's definitely the week for it. Dh remains unscathed here, but ds and I are under the duvet.

Pointlessfan · 01/02/2016 08:16

Take care ipsos, hope you and DS feel better soon.

fuzzpig · 01/02/2016 08:50

Thanks Slightly that's useful to know! They aren't from iTunes - they are ripped off CD onto the laptop, since we don't have a CD player (and it means we can put all discs onto one playlist for each book IYSWIM) :)

SpottyTeacakes · 01/02/2016 09:42

Well I think we ended up £6.87 under budget. But there was so much moving about last month I've got a bit confused Blush must try harder this month.

SlightlyTired · 01/02/2016 09:54

Well that's good fuzz. I really must remember to buy CDs and not iTunes downloads when I want an audiobook. As for getting them onto your iPad...I think you will need to download some sort of file transfer app to your iPad. Actually, I am pretty sure my DH just stuck our ripped audiobooks (Bernard Cribbins reading Swallows and Amazons, ripped from a cassette tape! We are old school...) in DropBox and accessed them through the iPad that way. But I am not in the least bit techy and I am sure there is someone on this thread better qualified than me to advise!
Should be lsd for me. Have brought lunch to work and will just need a coffee to get this week underway. Happy frugalling, everyone!!

fuzzpig · 01/02/2016 10:27

Whoa. Total spend for January £1514.34 that is both embarrassing and scary! Especially as it doesn't include any direct debits. Holy burning money Batman! And some areas like food have been better this month than previously (slightly less waste/grabbing food in town etc) - I know February will be even better as we only really started being careful in the last couple of weeks, but it does make me wonder how much more we were spending last year! Shock It also doesn't include pocket money for the DCs (negligible really, they get £1 a week each), tooth fairy :o and the penny saving thing.

£100 of it was my Christmas gift money so was an extra.

About £200 was on club fees/uniform so a lot of that won't be repeated next month (although we have to pay for the new rock climbing lesson block, £150 which will be up til July for both DCs).

Not worked out total food spends, as I did that on the 28th and it came out as £113 a week - I think doing it weekly will probably be easier to keep an eye on.

There were also a few big spends that aren't a regular thing - DH's birthday lunch, DD's main birthday present and a heater. Those three alone cover another £100ish.

I know that this month bus fare spends are going to be huge, but that'll be because of buying the bus pass which will last for 3 months, and probably (later in the month) getting DS' ID card which will be £50 for 3 years - so a big spend this month, but it'll be totally worth it so I'm not panicking about that. I think I'll get DD's quarterly pass in March, then DS' the month after (as having been through the process with DD and DSD, the ID card takes AGES - they still bank the cheque straight away though Hmm). So we will have to buy one bus pass every month I guess, but it'll probably be better than doing everyone's at once?! I'll do mine in February/May/August/November, DD's in March/June etc. So it'll go £148 £39 £39 £148 £39 £39 etc until next year when prices will go up yet again (sorry this is ridiculously dull Blush).

Also this month will be spendy as we have holiday things to pay for - need to book train tickets etc. We are having two little trips away this year - both in England. In March we are going to a Haven place, not that far away but enough to be different - will be self catering and mostly staying on site except one trip to the planetarium. In June we are going to Birmingham for the UK Games Expo :o :o :o which will be Travelodge, museums etc - will be using clubcard vouchers for meals. And hopefully saving some cash (and room in the suitcase!) to take to buy a game or two. Fairly confident that we can plan it all carefully to save money. It seems a shame not to be able to be spontaneous. Some of my fondest memories of my childhood family holidays just involve wandering around a new place, soaking up the atmosphere, browsing menus and tourist leaflets and just deciding on the spot. We really can't afford to do that though (and TBH my parents couldn't either, so I'm learning from their mistakes!) so I'd much rather get it all sorted beforehand. :)

Ipsos · 01/02/2016 10:29

Glad it's not just me fuzz. Well done for looking it in the eye.

fuzzpig · 01/02/2016 10:30

Xpost thank you Slightly :)

In other news, the bag of Lego the DCs got in the charity shop yesterday also incuded a motor for a train! So they've built another chassis and now they have two trains. Yay :)

Ipsos · 01/02/2016 10:31

Ooo! Train sounds fantastic. :-)

Pointless the being I'll and Being able to send children to childcare and go back to bed is only benefit I see of working - oh I suppose the money!!

When I make a pasta bake I do 2 one goes in an oval pyrex dish with plastic lid so goes straight in freezer even with grated cheese on (before I was dairy free) then taken out in morning lid off sat defrosting in oven (cold) then walk in from work whack oven on bung some frozen garlic bread in n dinner 30mins later. Although pasta doesn't have same appeal now I can't have cheese on it and fake cheese smells like vomit nursery buy it for baby he loves it apparently but hey he had never tried real cheese!!

fuzzpig · 01/02/2016 10:47

Actually scratch that Blush some of the wires they needed came off the original train. So can't use both at once. Still, we might be able to figure something out... all in the name of an electronics project of course :o and it's great to see DD so proud of her handiwork.

I am so not motivated today! I was really starting to feel better last night but I've woken up and my body's like, fuck you, fuzzpig.

Will be out later - I've got my follow-up appointment with the specialist who diagnosed my ASC (Asperger's) which I'm really looking forward to (finally getting diagnosed has led to a lot more self acceptance, so I'll be glad to chat about that, and also to have the opportunity to talk about the one issue I've had, which is my parents' reaction). Meeting DH so he can take the DCs, and either he or I can pay in my cheque from mum since I'll be in town anyway. Will take a snack for the DCs, we are NOT buying food in town, no way!

He's got some CVs to hand to places (although TBH we are running out of places to apply to :(). I really, really desperately hope he gets this job he's got the interview for (it's not for a couple of weeks though). He is this >< close to, in his words, 'chucking the keys at someone and walking out' and I honestly can't blame him. It is literally making him sick now, but he feels he can't take any time off now because he is even less likely to be able to meet their demands. He's holding on til next week, when he will find out whether he has met his impossible targets. He does think that if they start performance management he will have to just quit because he is worried that if a prospective employer finds out why he's been fired, nobody will give him a chance. He is really not one to just give up, he is doggedly determined, so it really shows just how awful it is.

Sorry for the rant.

Pointlessfan · 01/02/2016 10:52

Good luck with the appointment fuzz and also with DH's job hunting.
east I would be enjoying a day home alone if I didn't feel so ropey!

SpottyTeacakes · 01/02/2016 10:55

15p on sweets for ds. We went to the shop, ds on his scooter, just to get out of the house. It's pretty windy though, my ears hurt now! I've also hoovered and stripped the beds. Just got to dry the sheets and I can put them back on.

Ipsos · 01/02/2016 10:59

Sorry things are tough fuzz. Hang in there.

Hang in there fuzzdh.

I love boring posts and the fact we can talk through things here. I just get Hmm looks IRL but I find it easier to talk through and idea than just think about it

Ipsos · 01/02/2016 11:22

Me too Babs. Our cooking situation is bizarre, but it really helps to be able to think out loud about it.
