I have changed mine to a Christmas one too. It's rubbish, but then so was my original (born from annoyance at trying hundreds that were taken).

SpottyTeacakes · 26/11/2015 18:00

Finally got a response from the swimming coordinator a week after dd's lesson was cut short. She basically said 'sorry you thought it was too cold I've checked the records and it was between x&y which is what it always is Hmm

Girlfriend36 · 26/11/2015 18:04

Ispos i used b&q low odour paint to do my kitchen over the summer and they didn't smell at all. I hate the smell of paint so would have noticed of the slightest whiff! It was very cheap and have been pleased with it so far.

I have another bloody headache/migraine Sad am so fed up with them, this is the third one in a week! Will try and see a Dr next week I think can't go on like this feeling so rough all the time. Makes everything such hard work.

Have managed a nsd though.

SpottyTeacakes · 26/11/2015 18:10

Girlie you should def go migraines suck. When I get them there's nothing I can do but go to bed and vom

ipsos · 26/11/2015 18:11

Girl have you got LED lights too? If you do, have you tried switching them for low energy fluorescents? Just a though.

ipsos · 26/11/2015 18:19

I posted this yesterday but I think it bears repeating if people have missed it. Did you see how much my heating bill has gone up since the weather turned cold in recent days? I'm now paying £4 or more a day to heat the house. Yikes!

I anybody wants experiments on the different costs of running heating in different ways then I'm in a position to do them.

Oh come all ye frugalers, joyful in December, oh come ye, oh come yea and chat
Whataboutreindeer · 26/11/2015 18:27

How much are you having the heating on? £4 a day seems huge.

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/11/2015 18:33

www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/property/advice/9831697/Jeff-Howell-can-keeping-the-heating-on-low-all-day-reduce-costs.html

Look at the last but one paragraph Ipsos.

Spotty He looks very quiet and well behaved, I'm sure he is no trouble. Happy Birthday to your ds.

CremeEggThief · 26/11/2015 18:37

Ipsos, This is estimated on the last two weeks costing about £17-£18, on my pre-payment meter. When I had no heating on, I was spending £4-£5 a week, for the gas cooker and anything involved in kee ping the combi boiler running. So, very roughly, 7 hours per day is costing me about £1.75-£2 per day, and that's in a H.A. 1930s semi, so not amazingly well insulated.

ipsos · 26/11/2015 18:41

Thanks Fluffy I'll try that. We have the heating on constant at about 16 or 17 degrees, but we haven't changed the boiler setting down yet. The living room is at 18 degrees just now.

There are a few obvious things too. I still just have our tumble dryer pipe out of an open window. I have just gone and turned off the radiator in that room, but it's not a great long term plan as the room will become damp quite quickly.

I'll try a few things and report back! Any ideas gratefully received.

ipsos · 26/11/2015 18:44

Interesting Creme. It's a bit hard to tell where the problem is but I'll have a hunt around. Ours is a 1924 detached three bedroom house. No cavity walls or external insulation, 10cm loft insulation, bubble wrap stuffed up the chimneys. We have a five year old Worcester Bosch boiler and a hot water tank upstairs. Also a gas hob with four rings, and no gas fires or anything like that.

babsmam · 26/11/2015 19:00

Spotty - that's not the best reply, what are you going to do push it or leave it?
I dare not get a loop I will be obsessed.

£6 on tatt at the Christmas light switch on. Wouldn't have been there but it's right outside the swimming pool

ipsos · 26/11/2015 19:05

I had exactly the same with swimming lessons spotty. I signed up for baby swimming lessons with ds when he was 4 months old. The pool was freezing and ds was miserable and got really ill after one lesson. The woman refused refund any of the money for the whole term I'd pre-paid. There was nothing I could do, except I did once give her a filthy look in a park where she was leading a mum's BuggyFit session. She looked extremely surprised.

Colliejollychristmas · 26/11/2015 19:11

I spent £8 in Sainsbury's and 2 birthday cards, oranges and a tartan Christmas tree star topper. I love tartan so I couldn't resist. Blush

Pointlessfan · 26/11/2015 19:16

That article is interesting. We've had the heating on constantly but on a lower setting for about a week. We've definitely been more comfortable and had less condensation. I might try what he suggests though and turn down the boiler temp and turn the radiators up higher. How do I turn down the temp on the boiler please?

ipsos · 26/11/2015 19:20

I've done that too Pointless. There's a dial on the front of our boiler.

I just realised though, our thermostat is in the hall upstairs and our whole hallway has had its carpets taken up and the radiator has been removed so it's frigid out there. There's no way the thermostat is ever going to turn the heating off. Maybe just now I should just turn the heating off and heat the living room with an electric heater? It's only another week until we should be back together (she says, jinxing the whole operation.)

Ememem84 · 26/11/2015 19:31

£8 in waitrose on pizza. Garlic bread and jelly snakes necessary

Dh is back from laaaaaahhhhnnnnndannnn in a bit (if his flight is on time) so he'll need dinner.

AdoraBell · 26/11/2015 20:00

£69 on a Sainsbo's delivery, then I realised I hadn't ordered milk or yoghurt so went out and spent a further £12 because Bendick's after dinner mints were reducedBlush another £36 just spent on line but this is DD1's pocket money so that will be repaid.

Unescorted · 26/11/2015 20:19

Hey all.... I didn't have tinternet last weekend - it wasn't that I don't love you. Grin

creme have you thought about asking your HA if they will pay for better insulation up front and then you pay it back over a period (hopefully out of the saving you will make to your energy bills). Suggest it to your tenants board member if they are any good. You may be able to negotiate that they pay a proportion - it is not as if you will take it with you if you leave. I know some of the ones I deal with would be appy to look at it as something they could roll out if there was demand.

Bargin alert - I went into to Quality Save near work today, They have bags of sugar for 45p and some nice looking wooden toys and puzzles for only a few quid each. I was thinking they will make nice stocking fillers and I didn't really forget your present presents. It is worth a rootle about to see what random stuff they have if you have one near.

Unescorted · 26/11/2015 20:22

Other bargain ..... we have a posh glamping teepee. £140. If you want a bell tent or teepee now is the time to buy as the glamping campsites are selling them off.

I am so excited about camping in the snow... sad I know.

NK5BM3 · 26/11/2015 20:37

Happy birthday little spotty!!

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/11/2015 20:42

Ipsos Is that solid loft insulation?.

unescorted Winter camping? Shock

£4.50 on various groceries as I had coupons and was in tesco. There's always loads of people loitering my the fresh warehouse doors at 7ish and I've always wondered what was so good it's worth waiting for. It's a container of fresh fruit and veg all marked down to 1-5p by the looks of it. I saw kids crawling through legs to get to the bottom racks and adults being quite frankly grabby.

I'm going to do the boiler thing on Sat, PigletJohn in Property/DIY always says boilers run more cheaply on high though. We dont have a room stat, ours is in the hallway Confused.

Girlfriend36 · 26/11/2015 20:46

Camping in the snow? Shock you nutter Wink is Quality Save like Poundstretchers? Never heard of them but Poundstretchers had sugar for similar amount the other day.

Em thats how I say London Grin was born in Essex and it seems you can take the girl out of Essex but the accent never leaves you Grin do you know what I mean though? Wink

Ipsos thats bad they wouldn't refund those swim lessons, not surprised you gave her a dirty look! I have got the normal long life light bulbs? Not sure if those are the ones you meant. These headaches are def linked to my periods though, so annoying. Have put myself to bed now, hoping an early night will leave me feeling better for work tomos.

Unescorted · 26/11/2015 20:52

fluffy I have been asked to pit for my Boys when they do the Strathpuffer race at the end of Jan. I said I needed to be warm.... thinking that I would have a on hire campervan. DH has bought me the teepee and a WOOD BURNING STOVE....for inside the tent. It is really really toasty according to people who have them - he posted on twitter & we now have a one out one in policy for visitors.

Could you not turn the thermostat to a temperature in the hall that keeps the room at a comfortable temperature? Our thermostat is in the kitchen so we have it set to 22 deg which gives about 18 in the lounge. If the oven isn't on we open the doors between the 2.

Unescorted · 26/11/2015 20:54

Girly similar - same colour and font logo as Home Bargins, but a Pound Stretcher sized store.
