I like to think I'd be sensible and still shop frugally etc.

I'd get some work done on my house (more insulation etc.) to cut down on heating bills.

I'd do a lot more travel.

travel
new bedroom furniture
new kitchen
general redecoration of the whole house
postgraduate qualification

ExitPursuedByABear · 17/01/2015 16:02

How much?

A house with land and lots of animals please.

TheSilverSwan · 17/01/2015 20:40

It depends how much money but I would pay off my mortgage, do the house up a bit and get some Barker & Stonehouse furniture rather than IKEA! I would travel and buy a new car. Then, save the rest (if there was any left)!

jimmycrackcornbutidontcare · 17/01/2015 20:46

I'd get a caravan.

Noggie · 17/01/2015 20:55

Would love to get the odd jobs sorted around the house that we keep putting off! Guttering sorted , new carpet in hallway as it's knackered/ fix or replace broken garden gate etc not very glamorous but I'd feel so much better for it!

Travel- would be amazing! Haven't been abroad since having kids!

Pay off mortgage- what a feeling that would be!

Would be lovely to be able to anonymously donate to local charities/friends/family.

wobblebobblehat · 17/01/2015 22:10

In order of priority...

Mortgage
Getting house sorted/finished off, new patio, etc.
Travel
Keep some money to one side for a new car (for when the old gal gives up the ghost)
Savings
Getting out a bit more

RabbitSaysWoof · 17/01/2015 22:27

Buy a house.
Keep a nest egg.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 17/01/2015 22:30

Pay off the mortgage so I could work part time.
Travel
New kitchen
(How much money are we talking? I could go on)

Turquoisetamborine · 18/01/2015 07:44

We will be in the position of having about £700pm spare once our mortgage goes through. We will overpay the mortgage by the allowed 10%pm and also overpay our other mortgage on our rented house by £300pm (already do this, not included in the £700).

We have a big list of jobs that need doing to our house, fence for the front, replace front door with composite, fit extractor to bathroom, decorate living room etc etc.

We will then pay off our holiday which we go on in September as there's still about £1000 outstanding.

I'll then be on SMP so there will be no spare cash until I return to work. We will then be saving up for an extension and another trip to DisneyWorld, Florida.

H doesn't know any of my plans but he's quite happy for me to do the financial planning!

MonkeyPuzzler · 18/01/2015 07:47

Pay off credit cards
Pay off mortgage
Pay off student loan
Buy a holiday home

perfectlybroken · 18/01/2015 07:53

Buy a house outright, finish building house in dh's country, buy a nice caravan, save for kids future education. Fix mil's house up.

CPtart · 18/01/2015 08:03

Mortgage should be gone in next 4 or 5 years. Hanging out for new kitchen and two new bathrooms. New double glazing and new car ( if my current one lasts that long). Plus travel etc.
Could afford some of these now but feel better throwing spare money at the mortgage.

Blanketontheground · 18/01/2015 08:06

A driver. Hate driving. He/she would also be responsible for getting the kids shoes and coats on and putting them in the car!

chanie44 · 18/01/2015 08:51

Pay off mortgage
Home improvements
Get married
Holiday
Savings for the children an us

Damnautocorrect · 18/01/2015 08:57

Buy a house
Decorate sons bedroom properly (renting you don't know how long your staying / not allowed)
Plant fruit trees and other plants as we'll know we will see them come to fruition.
Get a dog (renting again makes it tricky)

Having the stability as a family would change my world

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 18/01/2015 09:39

A deposit on a house. Don't think it will ever happen though!

CremeEggThief · 18/01/2015 11:26

Pay for DS university education.
Buy a house and a camper.
Lots of travel.

Perfectlypurple · 18/01/2015 11:27

Would depend on how much but reduce or pay off the mortgage. Re do the bathroom and have a luxury holiday. Also if mortgage was paid off or greatly reduced I would think about working part time.

BikeRunSki · 18/01/2015 11:30

Carpets
Holidays

WowOoo · 18/01/2015 11:33

I'd like to be able to buy very nice food more regularly.

Getting my free coffee from Waitrose yesterday made me think how lush it would be to be able to do a proper shop there without having to think twice about it.

I'd love us to travel and a bigger, nicer house.

WowOoo · 18/01/2015 11:34

BTW I'd still go to my cheaper supermarkets - I'd like to do a supermarket sweep there for once. Smile

Ragwort · 18/01/2015 11:36

Probably put it by for my pension , we have already paid off our mortgage Blush so we are in a very fortunate position.

If I could be completely frivolous I would like new bathrooms, actually I could afford new bathrooms I would just like a project manager as well to organise it all for me.

Taytocrisps · 18/01/2015 11:37

The amount is irrelevant. A lotto win would be nice. Realistically, I'm probably thinking ahead to when my mortgage is paid off. 19 years to go Sad.

I can dream......

We're about to be a few hundred pounds better off each month. That's all going to be directed at the credit cards, urgh, then starting a pension because I haven't got one. We also need things like a mattress (ours is ancient and DH constantly has back pain), our furniture is all crappy and broken, we'll need to replace the car in the next few years, and because the money has come from me working much more I'm determined that we'll have a holiday this year. Realistically that will be camping, but this time for a week rather than just a weekend so I'm really excited about that :)

Above all I want to channel money to savings because I'll sleep better at night once I've an ISA with something in it.

crapcrapcrapcarp · 18/01/2015 11:41

Also, in the same vein as the holiday, I'm going to make a point of taking the DC to do things we've struggled to afford before now. So day trips, extra school activities, that sort of thing.
