Cost of living

If you ever have money in future, what would you spend it on?

I like to think I'd be sensible and still shop frugally etc.

I'd get some work done on my house (more insulation etc.) to cut down on heating bills.

I'd do a lot more travel.

We paid off mortgage early but still lived modestly. Savings went on
: supporting daughter through university
: buying one bed flat so that daughter has somewhere to live
: travel

My kitchen and bathroom are 20 years old. Not the height of fashion but never were so haven't dated too much.

We might give up the car because we are fortunate to have good public transport.
It's made me feel quite relaxed about retiring.

Depends on the amount.

We are currently buying a new house so I would probably pay down the mortgage. Would also pay for our holiday to Canada and keep a chunk back for future time off work for maternity.

Fritter with abandon- the best food at all times, pop into cafes willy nilly, get magazines and read them in the cafes.
And a cleaner

Moderate amount? Pay off credit cards.

Vast amount?
Pay off CCs
Pay off mortgage
Pay for DDs to go to Uni
Pay off stepson’s student loan
Buy a property for a couple I know who feed the homeless locally. They need a place to cook and serve food, space for sofas, toilets and showers, books, basically everything you need in a home but scaled up.

Then travel and generally enjoy having spare cash.

WHEN we have more money in the future, we will;

Pay extra on mortgage

Pay more off of debts

Shop in Sainsbury's and buy desserts in M&S and waitrose

Move to a bigger home in a nice surburban area. Currently live in an urban commuter town. I find it grim. Lovely neighboursWr.

Go to the theatre - proper theatre not local theatre

5 star holidays in luxury hotels . Really did not enjoy last holiday as we cut corners - horrible food/accommodation/pool area.

Shop in Reiss, Jigsaw, All Saints, Kurt Geiger

Have pedicure/manicure monthly

Buy coffee and lunch out as and when I feel like it

Eat out more often at weekends. Cooking takes up too much of my time.

I would give my dcs a deposit on a house.

I love my life and don't need anything extra (hate holidays), but I would like to make things easier for them.

A little bit more money : gigs and weekends away.

Quite a bit more: get on property ladder and save for DD's future

Loads: have a full time nanny.

It depends how much, but depending on how far funds would go (in priority):

  1. Have our leaky roof sorted out as it's not much fun listening to tap tap tap when you're trying to sleep.

  1. Have roof raised on extension to let more light in

  1. Pay mortgage off

  1. Treat myself to some new clothes (as I've only been replacing holely or leaky things recently) - DH and DD can have some to, but they're not as desperate as me

  1. Holiday abroad

  1. Get someone in to redecorate

  1. Pay off mortgage
  2. Investment for another income stream (boring but sensible)
  3. Put aside x amount for DC's education
  4. Holiday to NZ
  5. House by the sea (preferably in sunnier climes)

Buy place in the sun with a pool, smallholding (chickens, horses, goats etc), and a workshop for DH (he makes furniture as a hobby, would love to do it full time) move all family there including PILs and my DPs.
Buy house for DD so she has some security.
Ditto for other 2 when they get old enough.
(If they don't want to live with us.)
Pay someone to do the cleaning.

Pay off remaining mortgage. Upgrade cars. Mainly holidays, instead of our caravan in Dorset, it would be St Kitts and St Barts, or travel the world eating at all the best restaurants and all those diners-drive ins and dives eateries that only the locals know about, as featured on usa programmes.

We have 3 dream lists
With £50000 I get s new car the ensuite refit and be mortgage free.
#2 list. £250000. All the above and my oh retires and live like now with 2 holidays a year.
#3. All of the above plus a holiday home in Cyprus, lanzarote or Barbados. We could do the first 2 locations with £400k, the third would need lots as you'd need money to get there.

Also, in the same vein as the holiday, I'm going to make a point of taking the DC to do things we've struggled to afford before now. So day trips, extra school activities, that sort of thing.

We're about to be a few hundred pounds better off each month. That's all going to be directed at the credit cards, urgh, then starting a pension because I haven't got one. We also need things like a mattress (ours is ancient and DH constantly has back pain), our furniture is all crappy and broken, we'll need to replace the car in the next few years, and because the money has come from me working much more I'm determined that we'll have a holiday this year. Realistically that will be camping, but this time for a week rather than just a weekend so I'm really excited about that :)

Above all I want to channel money to savings because I'll sleep better at night once I've an ISA with something in it.

The amount is irrelevant. A lotto win would be nice. Realistically, I'm probably thinking ahead to when my mortgage is paid off. 19 years to go Sad.

I can dream......

Probably put it by for my pension , we have already paid off our mortgage Blush so we are in a very fortunate position.

If I could be completely frivolous I would like new bathrooms, actually I could afford new bathrooms I would just like a project manager as well to organise it all for me.

BTW I'd still go to my cheaper supermarkets - I'd like to do a supermarket sweep there for once. Smile

I'd like to be able to buy very nice food more regularly.

Getting my free coffee from Waitrose yesterday made me think how lush it would be to be able to do a proper shop there without having to think twice about it.

I'd love us to travel and a bigger, nicer house.

Would depend on how much but reduce or pay off the mortgage. Re do the bathroom and have a luxury holiday. Also if mortgage was paid off or greatly reduced I would think about working part time.
