Probably a rayt obvious one but from a certain time in the year buy a gift or something for Xmas each week.

Actually though the time calculations don't work. Just like driving to the out of town warehouse, walking miles around it doing your own picking and packing and driving home just absorbs time and fuel costs in a different way and takes a morning and racks up fuel costs.. but feels 'convenient' Making your own sandwich takes less time compared to diverting from a shopping trip choosing a sandwich, queueing finding somewhere to eat etc Cutting your own buzzcut takes less time than the journey to the hairdresser, the coffee the hairwash the cut etc. Shopping at markets takes less time than supermarkets.. etc etc

For me, it's the learning of new skills, etc. Like sparkle writes, it can maximise time and you can waste time under the guise of convenience.

Morning! Smile ok...another tip...

If you have young children, look up toy libraries in your local area. Some are fantastic and a great way to trial items. Some even lend bigger items like slides, play kitchens, etc.

I don't totally agree with "Don't own a credit card", many people I know have a credit card but are not in any debt, it just depends on how you use it.
The people I know use it if they order online as they get better protection and also if they buy something over £100 they get some protection. They pay it back as soon as it is registered on their account (within 1-2 days) or when the statement is sent out.
They also if they have certain credit cards like Tesco gain Tesco points which saves them money on other things.

"Don't own a credit card IF you know you can't trust yourself with one"

sounds less snappy but is actually more useful

LL12 · 22/12/2014 19:12

Agree Trills

Do you know how much you consume. Check how long, and this is just one example, your toothpaste lasts. You then know how many a year you need. Remember this and research the price of your brand.
When you know the normal or regular price look out for a promotion and buy 6 months supply.
To continue the example. I found that my particular brand was never cheaper than x checking various supermarkets, chemists, discounters. I then just waited until I saw a price less than x and bought 6 months supply. Toothpaste is not like chocolate you don't use more because you have several tubes in stock.
I may be wrong but many people do not know how many of the things they use regularly they use a year AND the normal price they pay for that item.

I love this. I want to randomly quote it all over the internet.

I promise I'm not drunk.

My tips are:

www.mysupermarket.co.uk before going out food shopping

Visit charity shops

Visit your local community center. I always use their café and it's reasonable prices.

Reuse old envelopes and parcels

Use coupon sites

www.moneysavingexpert.com is worth a visit

Use Cola down the loo for a disinfectant, stale vinegar is good too
