As we filled the old thread, thought I'd start a new one for February.

Tencups - ugh I hate being kept on hold. So frustrating !

Well I messed up today. Woke up late no time to make my lunch so had to get cash out to buy lunch in the over priced work canteen. Oh well try again tomorrow!

Fluffycloudland77 · 04/02/2014 13:16

ten, write a concise & polite email to the chief exec. It works wonders ime.

£30 on 3 months supply of contact lenses. I need to post a padded envelope sized eBay parcel later but that shouldn't be too much money.

ilovepicnmix · 04/02/2014 13:44

amber the night before I get paid I work out exactly what I've got going in and out. I then look at special purchases such as hair cut, night out, present etc. I work on about 70 a week for petrol, food and small incidentals per week but there's only me and toddler DS. I leave my 4. X 70 and the special purchase expenses in my account. Anything left over is transferred into my isa. Every week I take out my 70 in cash. I take out special purchase money when it is needed.

Another vote for going with the pension Claret, especially as you won't be worse off than before.

Yes nugget, I was flabbergasted when we translated the bills back to stirling. In previous years we've only had to replace pens/pencils etc when needed but this year is effectively secondary school, and we have to provide absolutely everything. It's the same across the board so changing schools wouldn't help.

Hickory it's easily done, isn't it? Don't take your cards next time, just enough cash for your shopping list.

AmberSpyglass · 04/02/2014 14:27

Thanks, picnmix, I'm going to try to get that done this evening. I think I will notice whrre I'm saving better that way and that will spur me on!

SpottyTeacakes · 04/02/2014 14:34

I need petrol but have already reached my £30 limit for the week HmmSad

expectingnumber3 · 04/02/2014 15:21

Ended up an NSD!

Tooth ended up being free as it wasn't broken, something was wrong with the filling which was the dentists fault. All fixed and no money spent, yay! I love my dentist again!

Hope you get your money back Ten. It is worth it as it could be loads! We have solar panels (already in when we bought the house) and last year we decided to claim back all the money the gas company owed us - £300!!!! Paid for most of our holiday.

MissAnnersleyismyhero · 04/02/2014 15:54

ten cups This happened to us and they didn't sort it out until I used the magic words...

I will phone the energy ombudsman if you do not sort this out asap.

They are terrified of that as they are legally bound to do what the ombudsman tells them and it gets counted in their complaint stats.

TheNightIsDark · 04/02/2014 16:18

Spent £1.99 on dental floss after dentist couldn't do my filling as my mouth was bleeding so much Blush

57p on a milkybar for DS as he got his reward stickers at school for behaving.

Made £10 selling on fb.

TenCupsOfTea · 04/02/2014 16:30

I have a £263 credit siting there so even more annoying!

NSD here, apart from a loaf of bread. Took dcs out on bikes for some fresh air after nursery.

SpottyTeacakes · 04/02/2014 16:33

Ten I've got £352. Not phoned them yet but will tomorrow....

£10 on petrol.

Ellisisland · 04/02/2014 16:52

Didn't do well today Hmm have terrible pregnancy sickness (not morning when it lasts all day!) so couldn't face any of my prepared meals so it's pizza on order instead.
On the bright side I will freeze the meals and can have them next week so the food bill will be smaller then I guess.

SpottyTeacakes · 04/02/2014 16:57

Oh don't worry Ellis. You're allowed to live on oven food and take aways as long as you're eating something Smile

CremeEggThief · 04/02/2014 17:13

£2.72 on milk, pitta and cat food.

Iamnotanugget · 04/02/2014 17:22

Ellis this time round I actually lost weight in my first trimester as there were so many things I didn't want to eat, or I fancied it until I smelt it cooking and then didn't want it. I'm in third trimester now and have a sweet tooth that I can't seem to satisfy! Just eat what you can, your body will look after baby. How far a long are you?

Some Aldi super 6 oranges, blueberries, tomatoes and apples. Also some pears, bananas and grapes. Picked up milk and basic pittas from Sainsbury's so spent about £17 in total. Hopefully I'll spend about the same again next week and that'll be it. Next Friday can't comequick enough!

DomesticDisgrace · 04/02/2014 17:27

Seriously frugal spendy day here!

Spent €12 but that included bus in and out of town for me and DD, had a lovely day in the national museum and a nice walk around town watching the street performers (gave them €1.50 in all) then off to feed the ducks (€1.50 for bread which we kept half of), yogurt topped rice cakes for DD later on watching a film and a face painting kit!!!
All for twelve quid!! Usually a day out like that would cost in the region of €40 with lunches out and just generally not watching the pennys!

Ellisisland · 04/02/2014 17:44

Thanks Spotty Smile

Iamnot - Only 8 weeks so at sickness stage Hmm hoping it goes away soon. Haven't told anyone at work yet and it's getting hard to cover up the frequent trips to the loo!

delasi · 04/02/2014 17:46

Agreed with everyone else Ellis. During first tri I had awful 24/7 sickness, I remember reaching a peak and I couldn't face anything, couldn't even look at ingredients, I didn't go into the kitchen for about 2mo as I would immediately vomit Confused So we had a small stash of money put to one side to feed me in the moments when I would finally want food! I remember spending about £10 on lunch one day when at work, I felt a little guilty but it was the only thing I could stomach, it was actually nutritious, and I hadn't eaten a proper meal in weeks! You just have to do what you have to do when pg, it won't last forever Smile

Been pretty good over here but sorely tempted to get takeaway tonight. I'm quite ill so can't cook, DH has been doing everything despite being tired as he also has a chronic illness, so I think a little treat wouldn't be so bad... Hmm!

SpottyTeacakes · 04/02/2014 17:55

It's hard work Ellis. It probably feels like it will never end but it will probably Grin

Ellisisland · 04/02/2014 17:59

Grin @ spotty

SpottyTeacakes · 04/02/2014 18:02

Don't worry I'm just jealous!

SpottyTeacakes · 04/02/2014 18:07

I've been talking to dp about spare money but he's just told me he's spending 70/month on my engagement ring Shock

Ellisisland · 04/02/2014 18:16

Woah spotty! Did you know you were getting one ?!

SpottyTeacakes · 04/02/2014 18:17

Yes I'm wearing it Grin
