I want to raise an extra £50 a month until the end of the year. Anyone want to join me?

My thoughts have turned to Christmas (sad I know). I'd like to pay for it without worry this year so want to raise and put away an extra £50 a month for the rest of the year. That will be £250 altogether.

I'm starting with surveys. Initially going to do Valued Opinions, One Poll and Toluna. With Toluna and Valued Opinions the payout is in Amazon vouchers when you get to £15. One Poll pays out at £40. Hoping to get 4 £15 amazon vouchers and one £40 payout by the end of the year which will give me the first £100.

Also planning to sell things on ebay mainly a huge heap of DD's clothes - quite a lot of mini boden and some good coats. No idea how much I'll raise but hopefully it will help.

Will also put DDs second hand school uniform in uniform sale. Won't make a huge amount but will help.

Will think about other ways to make money.

Would anyone like to join me? There are similar things of Money Saving Expert forums but the threads move so fast and are full of very dedicated people I don't feel I can rival Grin

How about this....? I've sometimes thought if I needed extra cash and had the time, I'd nip down to local furniture auctions, buy some hideous 70s or 80s furniture for a fiver, give it a quick coat of farrow and ball, and whack it on ebay ..... this trend for upcycling or whatever it's called seems to go on and on - may as well cash in on it.

Or if you are creative in any other way, whether it be making willow baskets or baking cupcakes or something equally random, could you turn your hand to it, make it into something that could be sold as Christmas gifts?

Agree about selling things on Ebay - not so sure about those surveys though, they look a bit mind-numbing, with miniscule financial reward.

Latest update.

One poll £18.15
valued opinions £11.50
nectar £12.30
crowdology £4.48 (this keeps chucking me out of surveys)
My Surveys £20
swagbucks £25
selling dd's old uniform £18.50
Sold some bundles of clothes on facebook £23.15

New total £133.08 £116.92 to go

That's a bit more like it.

Not sure I'd manage the furniture as I'm not allowed to drive at the moment (epilepsy) so would probably end up spending all the profits on taxi fares :(

crowdology £4.48 (this keeps chucking me out of surveys)
My Surveys £20
swagbucks £25

you inspired me! I have registered with a few of these sites and uninstalled Candy Crush. if I have time to kill might as well make a little money.

ELR · 26/09/2013 10:20

Have you thought about selling avon? My mum wants to save £50 a month and has started selling it and has been doing well averaging £50 commission every 3 weeks.

paneer · 26/09/2013 21:30

do you need to declare income on commission when selling Avon??

ELR · 26/09/2013 22:26

Sorry I have no idea how it all works, perhaps google it?

RUAHall · 27/09/2013 17:30

I've researched some other ways of making money using the web at home:

On-line surveys - I think you have covered this in the postings above;
Getting paid for reading emails - www.inboxpounds.co.uk - this site also pays you to perform google searches;
Getting paid for watching videos on-line -www.nectaradpoints.com -again this site pays you to do google searches;
Getting paid for doing other tasks on-line, for example Dollarsignup.com, GolddiggerGPT.com, CantBeatFree.com, Gifthunterclub.com
Getting paid for posting videos on to You-tube.
Sites which 'give' you money to start with - www.free20quid.com (although with this site you have to earn £100 in cashback first before you can claim your £20).
Getting paid to post postings into forums.

Using each of these sites individually won't make you much money, but if you spend a few minutes each day performing these tasks, then the sums could add up over a year. If you want to explore this topic area further, my brother keeps a blog and has put some thoughts and experiences together, together with other tips for saving money and saving on your tax bill when you come to fill in your tax return if you are self-employed.

Cheers,

Rebecca

Shock You're on fire OP! I had a rough month and gave up. Starting up again now that I'm semi-settled into my new job, signed up to various babysitting agencies locally and my hours being dropped again in my other job Hmm. But all is a learning experience :)

I finished my first two products, I have one and DP's Mum has one and I already have orders and suggestions on new products so I'm making headway on that now :) I've decided that I'm going to start selling through a company like Avon, I have an idea which one but haven't 100% decided yet.

I'm trying to set in place extra streams of income now to save up for my wedding in 2015 :)

My aim is £50 for October :)

thefuturesnotourstosee · 29/09/2013 16:13

One poll £20.85
valued opinions £13.75
nectar £13.03
crowdology £7.20
My Surveys £20
swagbucks £25
selling dd's old uniform £18.50
Sold some bundles of clothes on facebook £23.15

Total £141.48

Thank you Ruahall for you suggestions. I'm doing some of them already - nectaradpoints and inboxpounds. Inboxpounds is very slow progress and you can't cash out until £20 but I'll keep making a few pence a day and one day someday I'll cash out! I'm also doing panal base and justthe answer. I'm also hoping to get another £25 amazon voucher from swagbucks at the end of next month. There are loads of other survey sites but not enough hours in the day.

I'd love to do babysitting confusedpixie and i hope you get plenty. Sadly dp is away 4 nights a week so i wouldn't be available very often and I like to see him when he's home

A small update - not much to say though!!

One poll £22.75
valued opinions £13.75
nectar £13.56
crowdology £7.36
My Surveys £20
swagbucks £25
selling dd's old uniform £18.50
Sold some bundles of clothes on facebook £23.15

£144.07. (Yes I know some of these won't cash out for a while especially 1 poll but I don't want to depress myself any more than necessary!!)

I hate toluna. Got loads of points pending and on any other survey site I'd have got a £15 amazon voucher and be well on the way to my next but its just hanging on to them and not crediting.

Swagbucks on the other hand is good. I think I'll have £25 paypal out of them by the middle of this month if I keep going as I have been

At £8.80 on Panalbase with £2.40 pending so will hopefully be able to add £10 from them soon

Quick update

One poll £23.75
valued opinions £13.75
nectar £13.56
crowdology £7.36
My Surveys £20
swagbucks £50
Panel base £10
selling dd's old uniform £18.50
Sold some bundles of clothes on facebook £23.15

Total £180.07 :) £69.93 to get to target. Swagbucks seems to be a much better payer than I expected. My Amazon account is looking very healthy at the moment will be doing a lot of Christmas shopping with them!

As for Toluna needless to say I'm still waiting for them to credit me a few thousand points. Please avoid this site its awful

I've had 3 x £1.50 surveys on one poll which is almost unheard of as they are normally 10-20p. Also dd brought home an envelope today with a small cheque for £5.90 for more of her old uniform

One poll £30.50
valued opinions £14.50 (just need 5op for a voucher now)
nectar £14
crowdology £7.36
My Surveys £20
swagbucks £50
Panel base £10
selling dd's old uniform £24.40
Sold some bundles of clothes on facebook £23.15

Total £193.91 :) Well on target

Well done OP.

Just a thought though.....have you tried babysitting? My DD's friends are just teenagers but they get paid at least £5 per hour.

You could still do your online stuff if the children sleep!

Also kitchen portering is very good money, my DD gets £60 for 2 evenings and she is 16.

caz1010 · 26/10/2013 19:21

Hi, thanks for the update, have been rooting for you from the start.

Well done, hope you are really pleased xSmile

getyourshoesonNOW · 27/10/2013 14:23

I've joined a few of these - going to try My Surveys. I like OnePoll but don't really "get" swagbucks. I find the best thing is the codes for bonus bucks!

ConfusedPixie · 05/11/2013 12:01

Wow, well done OP! How much tie are you spending on the surveying?

One poll £43.75

First time in ages I've added it all up. £300.38 Shock I've also claimed a £15 toluna voucher but been waiting over a month for it and not convinced they're going to pay out so not counting it

Not going to stop now would love to get a bit more. I'm getting DD a bop it for Christmas (as per her request), got my nephew a lego calandar and am splitting the cost of a kindle for my mum with my db and ds and its all come from the above and I have quite a bit to spare. Can't believe I've smashed my target
