How much is your monthly gas/elec direct debit?

We've just had a letter from EON confirming our direct debit is going up to £107 per month. It's been a good five years since I compared providers, so I will have a look, but I just wondered what other people were paying these days?

We're in a good sized 3 bed mid terrace with gas central heating.

£90 a month in 3 bedroom semi detached - am fairly stingy with gas heating but a bit lax at remembering to turn electrical items off. Think its fairly accurate as have been with supplier 12 months so as we're still just about in credit we seem to be paying what we use iyswim.
I give readings each month so nothing suddenly shocks me.
Will have a check now I have a years worth of useage whether this is the best tariff.

With EDF if you give meter readings too close together it makes your consumption look higher.

They did it to me and I had to virtually cry down the phone to get them to leave the DD where it is.

DD is a bit misleading anyway, unit price is what matters and if you are on a plan with a standing charge or a plan with so many units at one price and then the rest at a lower rate.

EDF are useless. I was with them in my last house and didn't have a bill for three years, nor did they read my meter. I called to give them the readings but it made no difference. I moved in June last year and still have no idea how much I owe them as they finally sent me a bill... for June 2012 to October 2012 so after I'd moved out.

EDF before and to my amazement we've actually just got a refund?!? Not complaining, but very very surprised as I've had the heating on a lot more this past winter as I was fed up of feeling so cold!

Small 3 bed terrace and we pay £123 so you're doing well.

It's true the direct debit system is misleading especially when you've just moved or changed suppliers, because they don't really have anything accurate to base their estimate on. I use quarterly billing which is based on our actual usage. This way I don't feel like the energy company can overestimate our usage (I know you get it back as a credit but I still dislike it.)

We moved into 4 bed end of terrace last year and the winter quarter cost us nearly £600 - way too much! We have an old boiler and draughty windows which will be replaced soon!

happy I got a 1200 bill for 6 months and they said my bills would be 269 a month just for gas. I queried it and they have done a meter test and the certificate just came back as measuring correctly. I don't understand how when my previous ones were 279 for the quarter. It's British gas so I am going to have to try and sort out a repayment plan. I was in credit for my electric by 9 pounds.

We pay £50 a month for electric and £30 for gas. We get a credit note and money put back in the bank with every bill we receive.
We have a first floor 2 bed.

Since me and my girls moved to bradford r bills have doubled. It's crippling me. We tried getting cheaper provider but no good.

We moved to Scottish power in december, we have a 3 bed terreace, they said DD would be £89 for gas and electric.
Just got first bill DD has been increased to £120, as Its being judged on gas used over winter, whereas we use none in summer :-(

£168 per month on DD. 4 bed semi detached. It was £120 a few months ago.

We have just had our March to end of May bill in - £471 up £150 from this time last year. I am not sure if that is becasue of a price increase or because it has been so dam cold

House is 1950s. We do have double glazing and had insulation put into the cavity walls a couple of years ago.

There are 2 adults and 3 DC, so fair bit of computer/tv use. Heating is on a timer and I keep the thermostat lowish. However, we do pop it on for an extra hour if very cold. We also have an open fire in the living room that we use.

I do swap suppliers a lot though; at least every six months I do a comparison and if cheaper then I swap. Over the years I have whittled it down to this - it was £80 pm but was recently put up as we owed them money.

dh looks around for a new provider every year. Currently with SSE.

With the amount lots of you are paying I am now assuming it will go up lots fairly soon.

Duttywine because we've been paying £100 dd over the last six months we now owe them about £1200, hence why the dd amount has gone up so much. I think we're going to borrow from family to pay the lot off, wipe the slate clean as it were, and reduce the dd amount from £500 to perhaps something like £175, then with lower summer usage we should be on track for Winter, although hopefully not another £2000 Winter! Already this week we've switched the central heating off, set the water heater for one hour morning and night, the dcs have stopped having showers, and we've got a timer so dh and I use the shower for a maximum of 5 minutes. We've got a second fridge in the garage which I've just turned off, am reducing the amount of time tumble dryer is on, and the energy saving light bulbs are going in as of today. I think the big thing for us is going to be insulation though - no cavity walls, not sure what we can do other than maybe get thermal curtains. Some windows have no curtains (kitchen windows, kitchen door etc) and conservatory roof might need replacing, but since moving house we are on v. tight budget as it is. Hard to work out exactly what to do to make savings. Going to get a monitor plug thingy to work out what our electrical appliances are using. Might need to think about e.g. wood burner... Not sure.
