Good Morning Everyone! Are we braced? For the snow, of course?
Am in London so have just sent DS off to school and have now started the stressing over when he will be able to leave school/will they let them out early/is the train going to be held up or cancelled etc etc etc. Have put extra money in his wallet, a bottle of water and some fruit/nut mix and a small bar of chocolate in his bag ... just in case.
jenduck, am so glad your DGrandad is making progress and is on the mend. I hope he continues to feel better. What a horrible, stressful time for you and your family. You are in my thoughts and prayers and here, {{{have a very un-MN'y hug}}}
Fluffy, good luck with the shoes ... not sure whether to hope you buy them or not
.
Also, with regards to intensive conditioners - if you have any left over ordinary conditioners then, if you have an afternoon/evening at home slightly wet your hair, put conditioner on and wrap in towel (or not) or tie it up. Leave it for as long as possible then, when ready, wash out. Leaves it lovely and soft and uses up left over conditioner.
northender, hope you get the games you want. Good idea to sell off old ones and it really does teach them that (1) you need to fund purchases and (2) not to have hoards of stuff so de-cluttering too ... win-win
.
Adora, that's a fairly spendy day, you are right. Still, the holiday is paid for.
On the subject of frozen veg ... back in the day my DMum and DDad used to grow quite alot of veg etc in the garden (they grew up in the war and both were used to growing food). It used to be common practice to preserve foods by all sorts of means - pickling, in oil (common on the continent - have lovely recipe for preserving mushrooms if anyone is interested?), and blanching. This can be done with many veggies. Bring a pan of water to a rolling boil, have a large bowl of very cold water nearby.When water of boiling plunge veggies into water, keep there for one of two minutes, take out of water and plunge into icy cold water. Remove when cold and drain. Dry if necessary, put in baggies and freeze. When you need them just cook as normal. Sorry if you already know this ... am reading boffins austerity book and loads of things are coming back to me - stuff my DParents used to do as common practice and measures we used to take just because it made sense to act that way.
Am going to walk down to the station to meet him later and will pop into the butcher on the way. Want to buy sausages, bacon, mince and chicken ... will take my backpack so I don't have bags dangling off me
.
I hope everyone has a great day and are not too inconvenienced by the weather. I will be watching the weather, stressing over my guys getting home and knitting DS his stripey socks.
