Aldi comparison!

I went to Aldi yesterday and I spent £56.81

When I got home I went on //www.mysupermarket.com. Not sure if you are familiar with this site. It's for online shopping at Asda, Tesco, Sainsburys etc. you enter all your items then you can see what it would cost at each shop.

So, I entered every item that I had bought at Aldi and this was the result:

Aldi £56.81
Sainsburys £78.41
Asda. £84.09
Tesco. £86.91
I was very surprised that Asda was so high and that Sainsburys was so low

Is everything reliably cheaper in Aldi?

I know it's cheaper overall, but I'm never sure if their branded stuff (e.g. 'proper' coke, cadburys choc fingers) is cheaper. This is mainly because my rubbish brain can't seem to hold onto numbers , so I can't remember the usual price to compare to. As a result I tend to steer clear of these type of things in Aldi and stick to the own brand things.

Why aren't Morrisons in this price comparison?

I'd like to know how they compare. I moved to them from Tesco a couple of years ago and found they were a lot cheaper. But now my bill seems to have shot up so am wondering if the difference isn't there anymore.

Yeah, some areas do, but not mine. I rang just the other week to double check because I really wanted to do a shop there but everything has to go on credit card!

Viva Morrisons don't appear on MySupermarket which is the site people are using to enter the same items in order to compare.

Think I'm going to start shopping in Aldi. Spent £76 in Tesco today, 4 bags of shopping. No meat, but I did buy a bottle of Baileys I suppose and 2 months worth of cheese!

I shopped almost exclusively in aldi and lidl this month and it has made a hug difference

We have aldi and sainsbos next to each other, so I get everything I can in aldi and then go next door for the last 3 or 4 things. This week I filled my trolley in Aldi for £50 and then bought 4 more things in Sainsbos for £14.

But the atmosphere in Sainsbos is a bit rarefied after Aldi. There are people outside to smile at you and help you get your trolley. It's warm inside, with nice bread smells wafting around, and staff hovering to help you find things. The checkout staff smile and offer to pack. None of which is worth paying for if you don't have to, but it is always funny to go in there straight after aldi!

I am loving Aldi at the moment. Been 5 times so far and no matter what i have chucked in my trolley I can't seem to spend over £60.

My Sainsbury's equivalent shop would easily be £90.

I did an Ocado shop this week as we had a voucher and I needed to stock up on beans, pulses and things that my Aldi doesn't do. I spent £72 and feel like I have NO food in the house unlike when I go to Aldi and it feels like there is loads.

My tesco shop came out over £20 more than ocado, so I checked what was in the basket, and they'd put 12 of one expensive item instead of 3!

In fact I checked all the baskets and lots were wrong!

A lot of the basic items, milk, sugar, broccoli, passata were the same price or cheaper in Asda. It's the more luxury items (part baked rolls, and pink lady apples in my case) which were cheaper in Aldi. Smoked mackerel was 50p cheaper in asda.

I'm usually about £50-£60 in Aldi and reckoned I'd be about £75 in Sainsburys, so this pretty much confirms what I thought!

I prefer Aldi to the big supermarkets. They don't deliver so right now I'm not using them but once i can traipse around a shop again it'll be Aldi a lot of the time.

I prefer the straight-forwardness. No deals to work out, no annoying pop music pumping out (Asda I'm looking at you...), less crazy in the aisles because it's a lot quieter, less faff at the tills...

Just simpler!

What's the deal with packing at Aldi? You shove everything straight back into the trolley and then after you've paid put it into bags - is that right?

The trick is to have a big bag and use a deep trolley. Order your stuff before you put it through the till (heaviest stuff first) and throw items directly in the bag. Walk away whistling after you have paid!

I have large crates folding crates which I keep in the car, and I chuck everything in there direct from the trolley, then I can carry everything in the house in 2 trips as they are easier to manage.

I do the same as Rattitude - place things in logical order on the belt for quick 'throw in without squashing the bread' packing directly into big open bags that sit inside the trolly ready to go!

Orange Baileys is ok, but tastes the same as Asda Sidekick stuff which is £6 a bottle.
