How much have u spent in total for Christmas? I'm thinking about starting saving for next yr and just wondered how much people actually spend? I know I spend more than I think cause I buy bits over the yr, but in total, for everyone for everything inc food, drink and night out we have prob spent 600! Which is mental, and will be coming down next year!

Christmas dinner was about £20 including extras like Christmas cake, pudding and mince pies. (two...yes two pots of brandy butter )

Plus a bottle of Cairn O'Mohr to share.
Just less than £20 on gifts for each child (2 DC), the one big toy we bought with the gift money from GPs.
Spent about £20 on DNs &DNs in total thanks to a bulk buy offer on boxed science toys.
We spent nothing on extra travel or special clothes this year.
In total we spent about £80.
I am hoping for a better year. I have just registered as self-employed and shall be doing my best to get a business off the ground whilst staying at home with the DCs so next year isn't as lean.

DH estimates £300 including food,petrol and presents and DS2s birthday.

Gifts- 1500ish (thats for 6dc and family/friends/employees)
Food - £50 We are farmers so rear/grow/make most our own food so only needed 'snacky crap' and a few 'bit n bobs'.

Off to see my daddy and dbros/sil/dnieces and nephews and friends on tues..... I wont tell u how much its costing for 3 adults and 6dc to travel to NZ I'd rather not think about it!

We don't celebrate it as a family, but my mother does so £56 was her gifts.

We did buy other things that needed replacing for my mother, but they were not xmas gifts.

£150 for presents for others (dh sis & bro in law & a few family friends)
Approx £550 on the kids gifts - but that included a laptop between them both.

Nothing on credit cards.

When we added up extra special food, extra booze, gifts, panto tickets, petrol to visit relatives, carefuly thought out stuff for kids including pjs, toothbrushes etc, token gifts for relatives....

For us the xmas period forces us, which is a good thing, to maintain contact with our geographically spread family. There will be few visits till mid summer, so I'm happy we spent wisely.

Hmm, we were hosting 10 people for a week over xmas and probably spent about £500 on food and booze - though our guests did contribute too :).
All pressies - maybe £1000? we do go a bit mad in our family...
Tree - £35.
Going out and other entertaining - maybe £100?

I feel it's all been appreciated and everyone enjoyed their pressies, so well spent, I think!

About £500 - food, alcohol, tree and presents.

£1200 for gifts. This did include gifts for our 3 teenagers and did include some clothes for them.
£200 on pre Christmas going out.
I did buy all the food to feed returning adult DC and their DP. I made it clear that I would buy the food but they would supply all the wine and some extras. Even so we managed 2 additioal food shops and spent £250 more than usual.
I didn't buy cards/wrapping/decorations/lights (just used what I had already) and we don't bother with a real tree.
We haven't used the car until today (since 23rd) so have saved money there. DD did do the sales and has donated cards and wrapping paper for next year.
We also have lots of bottles left over so no need to buy wine for several weeks.

That was about it.

I think that main costs are gifts, but we don't go mad. They get main present and some small gifts.

About 1100 Inc hosting for 9, but parents a nd M/FIL brought LOTS of food/ booze (v nice of them):
We hardly went out and est spent 900 on presents; 400 others, 250 between 2 DC, 250 on one another (DH & I).

We had kept all the money inpaypal account from stuff sold this year on eBay.

I have set up a standing order to save £50 per month this year but now realise is not nough!

Eek - a lot more than I thought, around £2,400.

DH and I don't exchange gifts, we decided when DD was a baby not to exchange gifts with each other (we prefer to have an extra holiday instead) and we don't buy for any adults in the family by mutual agreement, everyone only buys for the kids and we have a massive knees up on boxing day where everyone makes a food or drink contribution.

hardly spent anything on days out - happy to do walks, done all the iceskating, winter wonderland and lo is too yonng for panto
