Oi, you! The poster who recommended Sainsbury's basics tea bags....

I thought that was going to be 27p wasted.

But you were right! I am drinking a mighty fine cup of tea. Smile

Thank you!

I agree, basics cafetiere coffee is strange stuff, makes me gurgle in a most unpleasant way.

lubeybooby · 19/10/2011 23:15

Really? 27p and they are decent?? Shock

I've never skimped on teabags after my experience with basics coffee once

Oh... tesco value soft cheese with garlic and herbs is just like boursin. 35p

mycatsaysach · 19/10/2011 23:16

their plain tortilla chips are lovely too

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/10/2011 17:37

Might have been me, but others on here use them too, I heard about them on moneysaving expert.

The asda basic tea is vile, as is tescos.

I have never told DH we have sains basics tea, I just say its own brand.

LynetteScavo · 20/10/2011 21:11

I am finding they need to be left to "steep" slightly longer than most tea bags, but I will go as far as saying they are better than PG tips.

OP posts:
YougreatPumpkinmousse · 20/10/2011 21:15

I use them at work, transfer them to a PG box and no one is any the wiser! The tea snobs are always on about how fantastic their tea is.

LoveBeingAWitch · 20/10/2011 21:16

Worth a try then.

weevilswobble · 20/10/2011 21:20

Ooooooooo!! Sounds interesting! I've drunk PG for like EVER!

stressedHEmum · 20/10/2011 21:47

I use these all the time. You need to leave them in for a wee while longer but, other than that, they are fine. Lots of Sainsbury basics stuff is goof. My kids like the toasting muffins, I like the soft cheese and the part baked baguettes. The garlic bread is nice as well. Kids also like the veggie burgers or fish fingers in a sandwich Blush.

Tcanny · 20/10/2011 22:16

They are the tea of choice in my house. Cheap and very cheerful!

horMOANSnomore · 20/10/2011 22:36

I've recommended them on here - I'm fussy about my tea and I too was amazed at how good they are.

Their basics plain chocolate is lovely too - thanks to whoever recommended that!

jenduck · 21/10/2011 09:03

We have those! I love that they are Fairtrade as well as cheap Smile

The cornflakes (about 30p for 500g) are also really good - OK, not quite Kelloggs, but still really tasty & so much cheaper!

The apple juice, on the other hand, is vile - tastes really artificial & you can taste the saccharine [shudders]

SuePurblybiltFromBitsofCorpses · 21/10/2011 09:07

I was about to ask about the Fairtrade thing. How on earth can they be? I'm not doubting you, just wondering if Sainsbos are taking a loss?

Basics muffins (toasties, not cakes) are nice.Avoid the instant coffee and tinned sweetcorn (or that may be Tesco's basic. vile)

jenduck · 21/10/2011 13:20

Hmm, good point SuePurlybilt. Could be a loss leader, I guess? Not really too sure otherwise!

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/10/2011 17:28

Try the washing powder.

And the asda basic vinegar for de scaling kettles. 4 descales per bottle.

horMOANSnomore · 21/10/2011 19:36

Sainsburys basic sweetcorn is great - if there's any in stock. Their basics scones are lovely too.

I use the washing powder and brown vinegar - I re-use it as well (as recommended on here). I love Mumsnet.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/10/2011 12:36

So does this mean that we all agree on something? .

Dunks biscuit in tea.

TheMonster · 22/10/2011 12:40

Sainsburys basic washing powder? Is it good?
Do you need softener with it?

Bohica · 22/10/2011 12:44

Oh thanks.

Fluffycloudland77 · 22/10/2011 14:23

Yes it is good, I use 3 table spoons of powder and 3 of soda crystals for normal washes and 6 of each for whites. With my plastic lakeland dolly balls.

I use softner with it.

LoveBeingAWitch · 22/10/2011 15:11

I moved to basics biscuit quite a while ago, dh hasn't been impressed. Nothing to do with taste just the brand snob in him, then he came shopping and saw they were 18p and changed his mind Grin

scaryteacher · 24/10/2011 15:06

The basics wraps are excellent as well - 6 for £1.09 means three loads of packed lunch for ds, and they freeze flat so don't take up much room in the freezer (live abroad, no Sainsbury, so buy and bring back). Wraps here are about 3 euro per pack.

HeadlessLamAAARRRGHHHH · 25/10/2011 12:13

Agree with the tea bags, they're really good. Almost £2.00 cheaper than PG Tips!
