How much do you pay each month for gas and electric?

Just been looking at all our outgoings as we seriously need to cut back somewhere! We are with e-on for gas and electric, and our monthly direct debit is £110. We live in a 4 bed detached house, although not a particularly large one. We are a family of 3, plus a dog. We use the tumble dryer A LOT as when I put the washing on the line, the fecking dog pulls it off!
Just wondered how our bill compares to other people's.

Thanks

Dehumidifier is definitely better than a tumble dryer as it not only dry your clothes but also dry your house! 👍

We pay £110 for both, 2 adults in a 2 bed semi, but we’re currently about £400 in debit we haven’t quite managed to catch up from last winter and then have used loads the past couple of weeks during the cold spell so I’m guess ours will go up soon.

In a 2 bed end terrace, built about 5 years ago. We literally changed everything in the house to low energy, except the kettle and oven light bulb (you can't get LED bulbs for ovens!). We also got the Hive Heating system to really give full control over when it's on etc. Electricity is around £20 quid a month and gas ranges from £15 in the summer to £40 in the winter.

You're all going to hate me, with Scottish Power (previously EDF at £2/3 extra a month) and pay £49pm - put in meter readings yesterday and we owe £13 which I'm pleased about as we hammered the heating during the cold weather a couple of weeks ago and are nearly at the end of winter.
We're in what was a two bedroom bungalow with loft conversion and extension, so four beds and a lounge/diner. It's not very well insulated as we can feel the wind pushing it's way through cupboard doors (in roof area) and various extractor fans.

We don't have a tumble dryer/dishwasher, have energy saving light bulbs everywhere. Double glazing and boiler approx 8 years old. This is all I can think of that must save us money compared to everyone else. Heating set 19c between 5.45am-8.30am and 4-8pm, but is put back on when we feel cold (we only have 10 hrs a week where no one is here other than meals/trips out).

Hi all

We are looking at a house which is off grid and relies solely on electricity. It’s a 4 bed terrace.
Can anybody tell me how much they spend a year on electricity using electric radiators please? Desperate for this info.
If you have solar to help reduce cost, how much impact does this have on the bill?
Thank you :)

We've got an electric wet system with 14 panels and no gas. Spend £1400pa on electricity- about £130 a month and the panels give us a third on top of this

greenyblue · 29/03/2018 11:25

Duel fuel DD just gone up to £96 pm due to the cold snap. Very cold Victorian house.
Earnings from solar panels have pretty much equalled fuel costs over last couple of years but we got in just before FiT dramatically cut.

Rudgie47 · 11/04/2018 16:39

Right, I've just worked it out as an overall average and its £103 per month for both.
3 bedroom bungalow, a pensioner who wants the gas on full all the time, no central heating and an electric heater going all night. We also have the tumble dryer on everyday in the winter and the dehumidifer on every couple of weeks or so as we have had a damp problem in the past. 3 washing machine load every week and 1 deep bath per day. No diswasher.

SillyJelly · 17/04/2018 21:45

I'm newly with Bulb and a monthly DD now set at £46 for dual fuel. Small 2 1/2 bed terrace but it's not efficient so worried this bill is too good to be true!

Only been here since last autumn and had carried over Scottish Power which was roughly £75 p/m. Time will tell once we start submitting readings!

did you compare actual unit prices and standing charges? that is all that matters.
