500ml passata for about 49p. Bung in a few herbs, garlic and a spoonful of sugar... cheaper than a jar of spaghetti sauce.

Oh, and just one more thing....... the library! (the best bargain ever)

Basics / value batter mix. Something silly like 7p in Morrisons or 10p in Sainsburys. Add an egg and you can have pancakes for breakfast with none of that complicated weighing nonsense.

What is in batter mix? If you have to add egg and milk isn't it just flour?

The batter mix is flour and dried skimmed milk. It does make a lighter pancake than the cloddy ones I end up with if I do if from scratch.

Tesco Value shower gel - 8p this week (down from 10p!) I really like it for everyday use or for refilling liquid soap dispensers, nice light fragrance, doesn't bring on my eczema.

Would have said coconut bars at Morrisons that were 18p two weeks ago - lovely they were just like the inside of a Bounty bar - BUT the robbing bast**ds have put the price up to 35p - virtually double!!!!! how can they justify that??? Someone I know who works there said the offers are so good because they are constantly increasing the price of the basics and hoping you won't notice, well I bloody noticed the price of these coconut bars increasing . That's it I've had a good moan now

I had a friend who pretty much lived off sainsburys £10p noodles which to say they were actually pretty good.

Sainsburys/Asda own brand Pasta, 30p a bag, - absolutely fine.

I dont like bread much tbh, but when i did buy it, it was the 40p basics bread to freeze, and for toast, yet again tasted fine.

Yet again i second the Garlic bread, was lovely, specially for about 40p.

You might think this is disgusting, but.... Sainsburys do basics 75p ready meals, and they were lovely! I didnt eat them that often due to having alot of sat fat, but for 75p. What a bargain!

DD and I are loving rice crispie and conflake cakes. Made with sainsbury's basics milk chocolate (100g), basics cereal (75g), basics butter (50g) and golden syrup or honey (2 tbsp)they work out at about 75p for 12

Part-baked bread always seems way cheaper than normal bread. Can't work out why. And has a long shelf life, good for when you've run out.
Tomato puree - goes a long way if you dilute it, much cheaper than passata.
Frozen peas - to get the same amount of fresh peas would cost about £13.95.
Frozen sweetcorn. In fact most frozen veg.
Smoked mackerel and kippers.
Tinned tomatoes - cheaper than fresh and more tasty
Oven chips.
Sacks of potatoes - use the large ones for baking, don't buy special "baking" potatoes.

Eggs, 15 for £1.99 free range in Aldi.

Sainsbo's cheap ketchup about 23p for a bottle. I actually prefer it to Heinz.

I still think bread is dead cheap, not just the value 49p/loaf range (this is wholemeal, I imagine white bread can be a lot cheaper). But the 74p stuff we buy.
